Thread: are xbox going to do this?

Probably in the new one, they have to keep pace with the ps3. The one thing that saved their ass was Halo, and Bungie has stopped the franchise, so if the new xbox sucks, no one will buy it.

Their making one more Halo game called Halo: ODST.

i dodnt know they were making a new xbox, i thought they were sticking to the one theyve got, because they planned to make an xbox portable, then they decided not to because the xbox 360 is such a hit.

it would only take an update, like the last update, the whole thing changed drasticly.

Where'd you get the idea that the 360 was a hit. The 360's success was because of Halo 3, and 360 sales are dwarfed by Wii and PS2 and PS3 sales.

first of all, everyone i know much prefers the xbox, noone i know has a ps3 exept one person.

secondly, thats just what i read on the gadget shows website a while ago.

and sure some people loved halo, but then they just ignored it and now its call of duty, thats the big thing now, since call of duty 4

and anyway, the reason i like xbox is because everyone i know has an xbox, i dont care about the rest of the world, i like to talk to my friends while killing them on call of duty, its no fun doing it with people i dont know. so thats why i went for xbox, and not ps3, and ive got a wii, but not many people use the online feature on it, except sometimes one of my freinds.

but anyway, xbox would be perfect if they had an internet browser on it, and i also heard a rumour that they are going to make xbox live free, but i doubt that.

Every game company is already making "The Next ...", it's just the facts of a multibillion dollar industry.

Xbox really should do something like this. I go for weeks at a time not caring to go online an play, I sometimes prefer no video games for weeks at a time or online single player stuff.
So for those periods of time I'm paying for a system to be hooked up to the internet and not be useful really for much other(I keep up with friends through facebook and email, I don't really use the message system at all).

And Ninja, the Xbox is a hit. It's doing far better than the PS3, the PS2 doesn't count, cause that's last gen. The Wii is definitely a bigger hit than the Xbox, but much of it's success is due to families and supercasual gamers. Hardcore gamers are turning to the Xbox as a similarly powerful and much cheaper alternative to the PS3. With a far better library of games.

although i want this, i dont really need it, because i run my xbox live through my laptop, so if my xbox is on, my laptop is aswell, so if i want to go on the internet i just use my xbox, but i still think it would make it the ultitemate console, its just such a nifty piece of kit, and that would be the cherry on the cake.

Well, I'm not sure if they're going to. I think they're going to, but it'll be a huge ripoff of the ps3 browser. It's standard MS policy, you see.

The xbox 360 makes scratches on your cd's and gets Red Rings of Death. When you do so, either MS refuses to fix it, or just sends you a new one which 'won't make scratches', but still does. Your games won't be compensated.

Ps3 has Metal Gear Solid, no problems and a lot of pretty good, non exclusive games like Haze and Mirror's Edge.
My choice has been made.

it wouldnt be a rip off, everythings got a browser exept xbox. nintendo and sony have both done it, i dont see why microsoft shouldnt, they could put in internet explorer, since that is made by microsoft anyway, so its not a rip off of ps3

thus, microsoft has a worse reputation in customer satisfaction than anybody else

no,
desktop machines need a browser

The EU Commission wants an OEM version of windows without IE, so OEMs can pre-load different browsers (as per customer demand)

This is about the unfair advantage MS has in online and search markets due to IE being tied to windows
IE is defaulted to MSN as it's homepage, probably (although I'm guessing slightly) as part of OEMs contracts with MS


The EU is enforcing fair competition and customer freedom, by moving the decision of "which browser" to OEMs
OEMs will provide browsers based on customer demands

If you have a monopoly in one market (MS in the operating system market) It is a breach of the EU trade laws to use that monopoly to artificially "prop up" your standing in other markets (MS in online and search markets)

Ye, what he said. Except in Japan because of PS being a kind of national symbol for home gaming. Still, the PS3 had terrible games for the most part and really no relevant selling points... only more recently they had a better lineup, like LBP or Resistance2 or whatever else. But hell, even Final Fantasy has now gone XBox.

As for the OP, you can pretty much expect the next generation of consoles to basically be inflexible dumbed-down non-customizable PCs with 100&#37; proprietary software and closed-architecture hardware. So, yes, you're gonna get your browser... although I fail to see why a video game console would need a browser.

a video games console would be good to have a web browser because it would make it perfect, right now an xbox can do many many things, and one of the few things its missing is a web browser. it would just make it a really cool gadget. although i suppose ive always got my laptop anyway so that doesnt really make a difference. but it would still be cool, you have to admit.

Instead of having to take forever with a browser on a console... why not just go on a computer (gasp) ?

you really want a keyboard & mouse hooked up to your games console?

I've got firefox loaded onto my media box (running MythTV)
and to be honest, I don't really use it all that often
I use the remote as a triple-tap keyboard (same as most phones do)

There's some things that just don't translate over too well to a games console (or similar TV connected device) - web access is one

well when my laptop was broken, i was very happy with my psp browser. even without keyboard or mouse. i could go on dreamviews and still post aswell.

So true! My Xbox has destroyed about $300 in games! Thankfully we bought most of them used, so they weren't full priced.
