Ha.

Well... come to think of it, guitar did get me my first girlfriend. My wifeling could care less though, and that works out just fine. She respects my passion for it.

The chat thing - we have a Live Chat here now, and there seems to be a LOT of guitarists who are also into LDing. I thought it might be fun to schedule a chat some time and see how many LDing pickers we can gather at one time.

What guitar would you suggest for a person looking to learn how to play? Is there any site where you can learn how to play or would you suggest getting lessons off somebody?
Lord of the Rings quotes:

"Behold, I am not Gandalf the Grey, whom you betrayed. I am Gandalf the White, who has returned from death. You have no colour now, and I cast you from the order and from the Council." - Gandalf to Saruman, The Two Towers

"Men of Gondor and Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails... when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of fellowship... but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when all hope comes crashing down, but it is NOT this day! This day, we fight! For all that you hold dear, stand, Men of the West! - Aragorn

"Far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man will he fall." - Glorfindel

"in Rivendell there live still some of his chief foes: the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas. They do not fear the Ringwraiths, for those who have dwelt in the Blessed Realm live at once in both worlds, and against both the Seen and the Unseen they have great power." - Gandalf

What guitar, by that you mean Acoustic or Electric, right. Well it all depends what your into. I far better like jamming on my electric, which is fun- and fun is what the noobie needs to you know, continue. But if you like country then get an acoustic. Its all preference.

I've looked on the internet, and its crap. Go to a local guitar world/center and get lessons. Or other stores. Often in your newspaper or yellow pages people have lesson info, just call them. To teach your self i go to this site: www.ultimate-guitar.com They use a system called tabs. I will explain them

e|-----------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------| HIGH E Far away
B|-----------------------------------------------------|---------------------------------------------------------|
G|----2^0------------------------7---5---------------|---------------------------------------------------------|
D|---------2^0-2^0-------------7---5---------------|---------------------------------------------------------|
A|--0-----------------3/5--------5---3---------------|---------------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------3--5-----------------------|---------------------------------------------------------| LOW E CLOSE

From here they can add notes which look like numbers which is the number of the fret you fret on the string. The ^ is a hammer on/pull off and the \/ are slides.

Hope this helps =X

What makes one acoustic guitar better than another? If one was to say have a far bigger price than another? Also, would you recommend a beginner starting on a cheaper, worse acoustic guitar or just buying an expensive one if the money is there to be spent?

What makes acoustic guitars expensive usually is the quality and the name thats on the head. You don't need a Martin or a Gibson. An Ibanez, Yamaha, or Epiphones are great, and cheap!

^ link for you to 100$-200 acoustic guitars. Look at the reviews to determine how good it is, then go to a store and play it.

I recommend getting a cheaper one, because as you become more skilled, you realize the difference in quality, especially when your playing martins after 20 years of playing. ( I'm not lol)

Good luck finding one! Oh and beware: Dont ebay acoustic guitars, or buy them at like walmart lol. They suck! Get a mainstream brand guitar, not a crap one.

Yesss. Speed picking is crazy, hyper fast picking. What i do is i put my arm onto the guitar and palm mute the low E, or D. As the arm on the guitar i mean pressure your arm and wrist to the front of your guitar for added balance. I also put my pinky on the bridge pick up. I suck at speed picking so go youtube it.

As for your experiment, play an electric and you gotta do the power slide. For that, you wear tight leather pants, play till your super sweaty, and end out your song with a little solo riff thingy, and then strum your power chord while running and sliding to the front of the stage . That my friend, will get you to score.

Of course i havnt tried it =P.

Okay try speed picking this, it's really cool sounding and yeah. Edited Beast and the Harlot by A7X

Yesss i like the pinch harmonic at the end. lol. After you've mastered that all the notes on the A string move them up to the high D and so on, that gives you range. Some of my friends can only speed pick on the bottom 2 strings what losers! Hope this helps, also im a noob at speed picking soo yeah.

Jumping on the "I PLAY THE GEETAR!" bandwagon.
I had lessons for a couple years, and then kinda lost interest. Then I discovered Pink Floyd, then The Who, then Cream... yeah. Now I play for at least 30 minutes a day, if I can.

Windmilling is hard. And painful.

A few months ago my friend started getting lessons from another friend to play acoustic guitar, he was told to buy new strings for his guitar, why did he have to? It wasn't an old guitar.

Edit: I realise I phrased this quite badly, it's more of a Why would you have to buy new strings for a guitar question, not a why did my friend have to, lol.

Strings get worn out, or dirty. So the sound is diminished. Its still possible to play with old strings, but with new ones the sound is crisp.

Ah ok, thanks.

Also, I know you don't play acoustic so it might be like asking somebody about golf when they say they're good at tennis or something, lol, but would this be good enough for a beginner? Click!

thats a reliable brand for the same price. If you add 20$ then you can find some better ones. But you can take a risk with yours and return it if its crap. Make sure to read the reviews.
