Reply With QuoteI would also guess it's the jack. Happened to me once with my electric, you should be able to get a replacement jack at any Guitar World or similar store, they aren't that expensive. That's assuming that it's the kind of jack that you can simply unscrew without taking the whole thing apart.

Tell me what's wrong with my bass
So I bought this brand-new bass guitar from Guitar Center on...I believe it was 7/31, since the 30 day return policy expired on 8/31. It's a real beauty, six strings with lots of tone knobs. And up until now, it's worked just beautifully.
Last night when I was jamming with my friend, my amp started making a weird clicking noise (if you need to hear it, I can record it when I get home), and no notes would come out when I tried to play. I thought it was the cord I was using at first, so my friend gave me a fresh one. Still made the noise. So I thought maybe my FX pedal was fucking something up, so I plugged the guitar directly into the amp. Clicking noise was still there. So then I thought it was the amp...but when I plugged it into my friend's guitar amp (a state-of-the-art Marshall amp), it still made the noise, definitively proving that it was the guitar itself.
I'm sure it's some kind of connection problem involving the input jack, but what do you think? Also, if it IS some kind of connection problem, what is your prognosis on how much it will cost to get it fixed?Final Fantasy VI Rules!

This happens with a used bass I bought. I'm not sure if you have the same problem as me, but I think so. If so, it's the output jack on the bass. Try tightening the nut on the output jack, and if that doesn't work it might need replacing. When I asked my guitar teacher about it he said it would only cost around $30 to replace it.

False alarm.
I took it in to The Music Tree to have a luthier look at it, turns out my bass has active pickups that are run off of batteries, and the battery that was in there was dead. I had no idea. I guess I should do more research about a product before investing a large sum of money into it.
...Of course, the guy did say that active pickups were much better than your average ones, so perhaps I made the right choice anyway. =/ Just gotta remember to unplug my cable from the input jack after playing, since apparently that would drain the battery even if the amp's not turned on.Final Fantasy VI Rules!
