Survival of the Fittest (4/13/09)
Survival of the Fittest
I am sitting at my kitchen table, using my mother's laptop. I hear some noise in the living room and turn my head.
There is a scientist, he is surrounded by animals. Two wolves are insulting eachother and fighting, while the scientist and the other animals simply watch. I ask him what's going on. He tells me that he's collected every known animal and making them fight to the death, so that he may gather their genes and create some kind of "superbreed".
A wolf howls.
We both look back to the two fighting ones, and see that one is bruised and bloodied, lying on the floor. He's panting heavily with his tongue out of his mouth. The superior wolf slowly walks over to him and places his paw on his head. Using one of his claws, he plucks the eye out of the defeated wolf, and it rolls across the floor to me and the scientist. The scientist steps on it, and I somehow feel just a bit of life leaving me, as if that were my own eye beneath his foot. He laughs, and the winning wolf asks if he may eat the other. The scientist agrees to this. The wolf snarls and tears out his throat, as the scientist huddles two baby deer into the center of the room and tells them to fight. They glance at eachother and begin to cry. He yells for them to fight. Still crying, they begin to attack eachother with their forelegs. I can't stand the sight of this: I'm extremely upset and distraught now due to the fact that the deer are so young, and tell him that he's insane before attempting to leave the room. A wooden door slides across from one of the walls to the other and traps me inside. The scientist tells me that he cannot allow me to leave, as I have also got a battle to fight. I wonder if he'll really make me kill an animal, and for the first time I notice a dirty girl huddled in the corner of the room.
~
A 'camera' then pans across the 'scene'. The floor is strewn with dead animals and the scientist is obliviously standing in the center of them. He counts the animals remaining. They are lined up against the wall. I remember seeing multiple wolves, a rabbit, and one of the baby deer, who now has a broken leg. I do know though that there were other animals. Lastly, I see the girl sitting against the wall...darkly implying that I had failed at my test.

Sorry, forgot we had to post a link to the original dream. The link to my entire dream journal can be found in my signature.

Survival Camp (4/9/09)
Survival Camp
I'm inside of a dark shack, standing in a line. The line extends far beyond the shack, though for some reason I am told to come to the front. This extremely buff guy is sitting in a chair next to the line. He tells me to get a t-shirt and put it on. I look down and there is a box next to my feet. Rummaging around, I see that all the t-shirts are bloody.
"NEXT!"
I look up.
A teenage boy is on the ground. He drags himself across the floor, next to me. He's coughing up blood, and it spills all over his t-shirt. He takes it off and puts it in the box.
"I said NEXT!"
Zac Efron stands in front of him, trying not to make eye contact.
"Somethin' wrong PRETTY BOY?"
Zac bites his lip, and shakes his head.
The man laughs. He spits on his palms and rubs them together.
He leans back, and punches him in the stomach with all his might.
Zac doubles over in pain, and begins to cough up blood. He hugs himself, and falls to the ground.
The man laughs.
He looks my way and motions for me to come.
I walk towards him, and he spits on his palms.
The boys push me towards him, and he pulls me the rest of the way.
I'm wearing one of the bloody t-shirts out of the box, though I don't remember putting one on.
He leans back, and curls one hand into a fist.
Confused and afraid, I push Zac onto him as he begins to stand.
Both of them scream, and the man falls backwards out of the chair and hits his head against the wall. Zac groans, and the man begins to shake uncontrollably.
I run out of the shack, and stumble into the darkness of the night.
He's yelling after me, and I look back. He's turned into some sort of wolf-man, and he's bursting out of his clothes.
"You can't escape SURVIVAL CAMP!!"

Traveling to Waking Life~
Matt and I are sitting in my driveway with our hands pressed upon the warm cement, relaxing in the late summer air. His arms are stretched behind him, supporting the rest of his body, while his legs spread apart on the concrete. He leans his head back and closes his eyes, taking in the sun. I lazily rest beside him in a similar fashion. Leaves fall from the towering trees surrounding us, and everything alive seems to be a golden brown. A particularly strong gust of wind quickly kisses our faces, and strangely, it seems to be carrying a faint male voice. I could swear...it is calling my name.
I stir, a bit unsettled. "Matt," I whisper. "Did you hear that...?"
He opens his eyes. "What, Collin?"
"I could have sworn...someone called my name..."
His eyes widen in mock horror.
"Really," I persist. "I heard it- listen!"
A breeze passes us again. Ever so quietly, the voice in the wind utters my name a second time. He hears it now, and smiles. "You were right," he admits shamelessly. "Maybe you're dreaming?" He doesn't mean it, but I quietly reflect on this statement.
I turn this idea over in my mind. Suddenly then, I jerk my head up. "Of course. I am dreaming!" I turn to Matt, who has closed his eyes again, and decide to leave him be. Besides, I want to find the voice.
I hear it again, and I begin on the road towards the direction of the wind. I have to strain to pick up any trace of the voice, but it's definitely there. Whoever it belongs to won't stop calling my name.
I begin to pick up speed. I'm running in the middle of the empty road, when something strange happens. It seems I'm running in place - I realize that I'm not moving anywhere, everything else is. All the world is flowing backwards while I remain in the same spot. The only thing that stays the same other than myself, is the wind.
Soon the "world" begins to fade. Everything around me is becoming increasingly dark. It's like a roll of film, almost - When there's nothing else to be seen, I'm left only with a black void. In this void all things seem to echo: my breathing, my footsteps, even my heartbeat. But driven by the voice, I am not afraid. It feels like I'm here forever, running.
Eventually, a new scene begins to form. Somehow, I know that I have gone through the process of changing worlds.
While contemplating this, I trip and land on my hands and knees. Looking up, I find myself in a crowded closet. Directly on the other side of the door I hear the voice, and know its source is there. I get to my feet and push the door, unintentionally phasing through and landing in a boy's bedroom.
He's about the same age as me. His bed is pushed into a corner, and he's sitting up against a wall holding his blanket so that it covers all but his face. His mouth slowly closes, as I suppose he was going to call my name again. We both stare at eachother, and he is the first to break eye contact.
He somewhat hesitantly looks me over, from top to bottom. I then begin to take notice of myself, and realize how differently I appear emerging from the darkness in between "worlds". I seem a spirit or a ghost almost, a sort of hologram. I didn't even think I would be tangible. I also notice that my feet hover about an inch above the floor. Looking back to him, I find it in myself to speak.
"What did you call me for?"
He doesn't answer, and I don't push him to. We stare at eachother with wondering eyes, until the dream fades.

Symbolism
I am riding on a white bear down a series of hallways, when I become aware of a dark coloured bear picking up speed behind us. Suspicious that it means us harm and knowing that it would be futile to attempt to outrun it, I stop beside a large stone structure in the middle of the corridor and climb onto it. The white bear looks off and I try to explain my cowardice.
"I wasn't sure...if you two were friends? I thought...I just..." I trail off as the dark bear reaches us. He pauses, and he stands.
I see now my attempt to stay safe was pointless. On his hind legs he reaches well over the structure I am crouching on. He spreads his arms horizontally and the white bear calmly does the same. They press their bodies against eachother in what I can only imagine is a form of greeting. Then he turns to me. With his forelegs, he pushes a book to my face. I know somehow that it's a spellbook. I expect that he wants me to read it, but instead he just keeps pushing. I gently push it back and he begins to moan. It turns to screaming, growling, and he keeps trying to force this book on me. I finally push it away completely, and if falls to the floor. Before now the book had been covering head, and now I see...he has no face.
I gasp, and terrifying music begins to play out of nowhere. I fall off the structure and run down the hall, eventually coming to a staircase. I run halfway down to find an open door at the foot of the stairs. I freeze. I begin to remember a previous nightmare taking place in my house, where something dangerous was outside.
I somehow gain awareness and run back down the hall. The dark bear has my white one pinned against a wall, with the book pressed against his face. They're both yelling, but I press on to the end of the hallway where a door sits. I run inside and find myself in my room. I slam the door and jerk my hands in an upward motion, so that my palms are parallel to the door. A magical dust flies from my fingertips, and the door is cemented over. Seconds later I hear a pounding against it, and become frantic. Then I gain a memory - I remember a companion, something that was with me before the white bear in the beginning of the dream, someone who could save me...More pounding comes, so much to drive me insane. I don't know what to do and I cradle my head in defeat, when I hear a voice. It drowns everything out, and what it spoke was my name. Somehow it clears my head. I blink, and find myself in waking life.

Battle, Chat, and Task Failure
As I attempt to move I find that I cannot. This excites me, for with my constant tossing and turning I thought I would never reach sleep paralysis. I wait for the usual bouts of vibrations, when something horrifying happens. Though my eyes are closed, I somehow see...I see a demon approaching my bedside. Thin, small, with two miniature horns and claw-like hands. The red imp scuttles towards me, passing my brother completely. Suddenly, sleep paralysis isn't so exciting anymore. I'm shaken, but I've come too far to be denied my WILD. And though movement has left me, my mind is still intact - I know I can use it to save myself. In between wakefulness and sleep, my 'abilities' are at their fullest. I imagine my hand rising. Strangely, a pale arm lifts out of my own, palm faced at the demon. I expel a telekinetic blast, and he is thrown backwards. I cannot savor this victory, as he hobbles to his feet again. His noticeable limp does not stop him, he starts towards me again. I imagine another gust of telekinetic energy and he tumbles through the air again. Now he stops. With heavy breathing, he raises his head. His fully black eyes meet mine for a split second before he disappears - and reappears not a foot in front of me. Before I can react, I feel his body on mine, and I lose sight...
I jerk to a sitting position in bed, eyes open. This world has a different feel to it...I've done it! I reality check to reaffirm what I already know, I have successfully passed into a lucid dream. This is by far the most 'real' dream I've ever had. I gaze around my room and appreciate how my mind has perfected every detail of this space. I jump out of bed and run to the stairs, with full knowledge of what I want to accomplish. As I descend, I hold out my hand with the task of the month in mind. Though I imagine a hamburger, nothing appears. I am not in the mood for faulty dream control, and figure it's high time I got myself a dream guide. I'm on the first floor of the house now, and I close my eyes to concentrate. I throw my fist to the sky, and proclaim as loud as I can: 'DREAM GUIDE!'
When nothing happens, I quickly pull down my hand. I feel quite foolish and have to pinch my nose to make sure I am truly dreaming. I can still breathe, so I try once more. 'Dream Guide...? Dream Guide, I need your help-' I'm standing at the beginning of a hallway that leads into the kitchen. On the table, is the silhouette of a cat.
I run to it, but when I enter the kitchen it's vanished. I have no time to feel frustration, for all of the sudden I hear a familiar noise. I turn my head - there it is again, that recognizable bleep. I walk over to the computer and smile, as I glance at the page: the DreamViews chat room. I look at the list of members present in hopes of seeing someone I know, but the letters in their user names keep rearranging themselves. I hear the noise that signals a sent message, and the text that appears is stable:
[woah is he here?]
I gasp. Is he referring to me...?
[dude i think he is!]
[omg wow hes here]
There is an influx of messages. So many are coming in I can't read them all. I get an idea, and tentatively press my fingers to the keyboard:
[Do any of you know how I can get my Dream Guide?]
[haha]
[you are your dream guide]
[silly]
I frown. What on Earth was that supposed to mean? I hear footsteps and jump, and foreseeing that a dream character would be a nuisance and thus ruining my lucid dream, I hastily type again:
[Does anyone at least know how I can get a hamburger?]
[check the fridge]
[lol]
Suddenly my whole family comes through the doorways entering into the kitchen, there noise causing me mental unrest. 'What are you doing on the computer so early in the morning?' scolds my father, at which I mumble an incoherent reply. I try and ignore them the best I can and I walk over to the fridge. Before I can open it my mother taps my shoulder. 'Remind me to go to the store today - we're all out of burgers.'
