Welcome the sixth sense; Meta-information.
What do you think...? I am betting apple will be all over this.

Bollocks.

If you do get on that, Apple, please don't amp up your prices like you do with everything. -__-
I want this thing when it comes out. It would be rather swell, and that's such an understatement. :3
I thought the sixth sense was temperature? Being that you don't have to touch the air to feel the heat or cold...
anyway, that was pretty freaking awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on that.

Yup that's pretty awesome. Switch attends MIT and I remember her talking about this last month. It's definitely the way of the future, I've been wondering how long it was going to be before that computer scenario in Minority Report would become an invention. It's definitely overdue.
Achievements:
I really can't see much use for this in my daily life. Then again, I don't even have cable TV or a cell phone.
However... it looks like fun, so I would buy one in a second.
Also until there's an information network that is like 5-10x faster than EDGE or 3G this would be pointless too.
It would suck to stand there with a freaking projector over a roll of toilet paper for 2 minutes waiting for the info to download. Those images had to have been prerecorded / faked / edited for time. I don't doubt they have the tech, just that it can't be that fast.

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama
The technology by itself is rather amazing, but it's limited in that it'll have to be a permanent fixture on one's attire to use consistently. I'm sure they'll receive plenty of input on how to make the device more appealing to the public in terms of stylishness, but the projector unit makes it difficult for me to imagine how it would work out.
How come? Just imagine an iTouch hanging from a necklace - that's what the projected prototype is. I'm curious how it can work otherwise.. perhaps a bluetooth-like attachment to the ear? Furthermore, is there an alternative or better idea? In the end, it's really just another cool gadget, like an iPod or something, that could very easily take off given the convenient (like you said) shape and size, hm?

Plus it's "cool"(or normal or fashinable, idk) to have one's phone hanging on a lanyard from one's neck(at least in my area).
It's not much different at all. Although there'd have to be a way to keep it steady during use, cause that could swing around a ton.
I wonder how much the data plan for something like that would be? It would be so cool if it was free, but I don't see that happening.

That taking pictures thing with the hand gestures was the selling point for me, haha. That and being able to look up amazon reviews for books (mm I don't really care about toilet paper).
I think the idea is really friggin awesome. And I'm not surprised in the least that the brilliant mind behind it is an Indian guy.![]()

It seems like it would require an always on camera and projector, and always means always if it's to function as a "sixth sense." Seems like we would need much better batteries or effective over-the-air charging to make it viable, as well as improved projector tech if we're to display more than easily-recognizable icons on imperfect surfaces.
Still, I could see a dedicated camera/projector as one of several networked devices carried by future tech professionals, executives, and law enforcement, for instance. Would mastery of such a "sixth sense" constitute a post-human divide? Does internet literacy already mark such a divide, the life experience of users being qualitatively different from those without access and/or proficiency?

I'm not so sure about this prototype. It's a good concept and all, but it needs to be advanced significantly if it is to be implemented into our day-to-day lives. I see potential in it, but I think I'll wait for v2.0.
Surrender your flesh. We demand it.
This just won't work... why is it any more intuitive that using a phone with a screen? What does it actually do that is so special? And where would you get a surface for a projection? The guy was posing throughout the whole of that thing, you have to get a surface in exactly the right place for it to work.
Sorry to be so pedantic but what exactly do you think transfers the sun's heat to Earth? What exactly is it that you think is transferring the heat to your body..?

I can see battery life being a huge limiting factor in this. As with most mobile tech, the damn batteries are always holding things up.
That strikes me as a major invasion of privacy, geared towards consumerism. Why think for yourself when you have a device to do your thinking for you? It's a really bad idea.
Plus if someone started projecting my personal information onto me, they would quickly find out how well that device works from inside their own asshole.

I agree with Cusp. This seems like a very bad idea.
"...and who knows, maybe in ten years we'll be here with the ultimate sixth
sense brain implant. Thank you!"
