      Getting Passed Sleep Paralysis

      Hey there guys,

Just wondering, for your first time, what were your first experiences with Sleep paralysis? I keep getting to this point and chickening out.

Though, mind you, my thoughts are getting better each and every time. A.K.A, The first time I did it, I was like 'Hey..what's going on'. Few times later, last night I thought to myself 'Now, I just gotta slide past this part..'

I'm feeling more and more sleep paralysis as I continue to try and get passed it, but as I progess it gets scarier and scarier. Though last time I had someone there who was holding my arm, trying to coach me through it (In the dream). The last time I did it I was through until my teeth started to clamp down, I wasn't feeling pain, it was just an uncomfortable buzz.

Tl;dr: What was your first experiences with sleep paraylsis? How did you get passed it into your WILD for the very first time? Because I keep chickening out.

Would appreciate your responses, Thank you very much.

When i had my very first SPs I was very scared. I didn't know what it was, i thought I had a sleep disorder or something. (I guess it technically is)
As time passed it wasn't so much 'OMG IM SOO SCARED' it slowly turned into 'Gahh not this again'
After awhile the fear of it left and it got more annoying than anything.
Until I found out about Lucid Dreaming Now I LOVE SP.!

The first time I got past SP in into a LD was a few days ago.
Its very hard to explain what you need to do.
I just lay there and wait for a dream to occur. Once it does, I jump straight into it.

I am sure after practice you will get the hand of it.

First off, Grats MrDeano on your first WILD! Since joining the site =P

Hmm, it's not that I don't know what to do. I knew what it was, I knew where I was, I knew what I was doing. Just need the courage to lay there through it ^^; and then control it ^^;.

But now I have my own methods which worked for me that night, best thing was that it was natural when it happened without me trying so I now I know what works best for me.

Also, I was completely calm..up until the exact moment i chickened out..so yeah. I'll get there haha

I remember my first (and only so far) SP. When I had it I didn't know anything about Lucid dreaming, so it wasn't purposely induced. Luckily, when I had the hallucination my logic must have kicked in aswell, because I didn't have any weird demonic experiences or anything like that.

I remember waking up in my bed and not being able to move or breath. Next thing I know, my logic must have kicked in because I was in a hospital in the hallucination, and I remember hearing two people, who I assumed were nurses, talking beside me. The only slightly scary part was when this weird, but not particularly scary face started coming towards me, but then I just jumped awake and it was all over.

I think you just have to get used to it. What is it that you´re scared of?
When I experienced my last SP I was scared too, but only for some seconds. I remembered that it´s something natural and my excitement to use it for LD was much bigger than the fear.

      I don't know, maybe death? I know I shouldn't be, because I know that it won't happen.

As soon as I started SP, I wanted it to end. But, as soon as it ended, I wanted to try again.

I don't really remember my first SP... but all my SPs are pretty much the same: lights and white noise that changes pitch. I've never made it to a dream from SP though.

Only advice I could give with my experience is to just keep throwing yourself at it . I do a wild attempt once every two-three days so I don't get bored/annoyed at attempting it. Sometimes if I am in the mood Ill do it one day then the next and then another after that.

Just throw yourself at it a lot, once you succeed once I bet it will be a lot easier later on .

I haven't succeeded yet in getting an LD from SP. I have had several Pre-SP episodes when I tried to get to SP and two days I got closer to SP, but, still haven't made it yet. My advice is to keep going at it. If you are like me, I don't feel as comfortable WILDing at night due to your reduced vision, so, my advice would be to try a WBTB with a WILD

I'm by no means an authority on the subject but I'm fairly certain I've read a few times on here that visualizing when you can't get past SP can lead you into a dream. Just make sure to remind yourself that you are dreaming as you do it.

The couple times I've tried VILD I have ended up nonlucid.

I'm one of those few people with the sleep disorder that causes it on its own. It always used to scare the hell out of me when I was growing up. I'll be awake and I can't open my eyes or move...and it feels like I cant breath. I used to always fight my way out of back in the days.

With that said...I decided to look around on the internet and find out more about it...almost as soon as I found out about WILDing I turned that curse into a gift. It changes from time to time how I get into the dream though. Sometimes I can just sit there, and things will form automatically, and other times I'll have to wake up to a FA to get things rolling.

Whenever it happened, I just kept it together until whatever was going on stopped. I guess to sum it up its knowing that I'm going directly into a lucid dream that got me past it.

When I first had a WILD I woke up rather early without moving an inch. My body was naturally still in SP and while it was hard to focus for some reason in that brief period my awareness was razor sharp. I instantly knew I just woke, that I shouldn't really move too much and that I should be able to slip into a dream. For me I started to feel vibrations mainly on my chest area. They got extremely intense as my heart rate seemed to shoot up. I felt scared at first but then just gave into an attitude of complete acceptance. The vibrations quickly changed to a vibrational "rush" up and down my body and I started to hear a loud noise, very much like a jet engine, around my head. It was then when my body started to tilt to the left, hang for a bit and then proceed to roll me. The rolling sensation was extremely real and it lasted around 10 seconds and by the 10 second I was rolling so fast I didn't know what was up or down. It was then when I appeared in my dream, a house in America.

Additionally, I may have had a classic experience what some would call on OBE in the way that I actually got out of my body. I lay in bed same as before but instead of rolling I, with my eyes closed, swung my legs to the right and out of bed and stood up. My eyes were closed but I felt my creaking mattress, the cold ground and the room around me. I started to fall forward but as there's a window in front of me at that point I put my hands out to stop me. I guess this mental refusal of my reality pulled me out of the dream and I woke up. Still, my eyes were closed throughout but if I opened them I could have seen myself, classic OBE style.

When it fails for me I either wake up and don't realize I'm in SP or I feel slight vibrations and expect to have an LD too much. When it worked I just went with the flow.

Damn I hate myself, but I always chicken out of Sleep Paralysis. At first I say: I'm gonna do it this time. Then it begins. Then I say: "Ok let's do this!"
Then the buzzing sounds begin. Then I let it flow. Then it gets louder, and all kind of monsters appear in my room. Then I loose my self-confidence, therefore it gets worse. Ultra loud painful sounds, and absolute terror. Then I try to scream and get out of it, with pushing myself against the wall with my legs, and trying to open my eyes, and it takes about 30 seconds to get out of it.
Then in the morning I say: "Damn... why did I chicken out?" "I hate myself for that". Then it repeats.

I'm trying to WILD, realizing that I'm dreaming is a rare thing for me, and I've only had a couple DILDs. I also like the control a WILD will give you, being able to pick when you have a LD instead of just going to bed and hoping you recognize one of your dream signs. I haven't yet experienced SP, but the hallucinations that come with it are not something I'd like to. Does sleep paralysis always come with the terrifying hallucinations? Is there a way to avoid them?

      wow congrats!

I can't remember how many times I experienced sleep paralysis before I started to understand it had something to do with dreams...I remember the day I found that out, I was having a mid-day nap, and when I started to feel it, I went with it. I stopped being afraid and just thought about how tired I was, and almost even annoyed that it was happening. After a while it got intense. I was pulled into dreams but with almost full consciousness, and ended up taking myself in and out them like 4 times. The last time, I was even hallucinating with my eyes open, like a latent memory of the last dream, and then became fully lucid as I went back in..controlling the entire dream. Man that was fun.

But sometimes it is scary, I end up seeing faces or hearing crazy voices before I dream. I don't know how to calm myself down, and psyching myself out never works, so I just end up moving a pinky or something and hoping I slip into SP again without all the madness.

Yeah, I know. It's weird; I know that it's really not THAT bad, it's just like....I can't psycholigically get over the fear! Actually, "apprehension" is a better word.
