I challenge you to One Hundred Pushups

I'm sure a few of you out there are familiar with the 100 press up challenge on the web. If not it's basically a simple training program designed to get you doing 100 press ups within 6 weeks.

Personally I've never been motivated enough to keep it up, but as a few other people have expressed interest on the 15,000 push ups thread I thought we could give it a group effort. It definitely seems to be a huge psychological push so (hopefully) the more the merrier!

So a pretty simple proposition, take a shot at the program and see if you can make it to the other side. Even if you think you can't do that many press ups, give it a try - you'll be surprised how quickly you make progress.

And to the people who think this is too easy, try doubling the numbers or really slowing your press ups down!

You can find the website at this link.
      one hundred push ups

      My Progress so far

      Intial test: 21 push ups

This means I started on week three and on day 1 I achieved 17 on the maximum reps test.

Bit disappointing but I'll keep at it!

I know, this is something different, check out the site

A couple of people in that thread showed interest in doing it so I thought I'd get things started.

If it is too similar then I'll be embarassed as hell, but I'll admit defeat.

The only differences are that it is individual, it is a different number of them, and there is a time limit. Pretty similar.

If you don't want to do it then fair enough, but as I said a few people expressed interest in trying to achieve a more personal feat.

Yeah, it's pretty different. This is doing 100 at once and working towards being able to do it. My max today was 29.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

lol, for the third time today, clearly not 'this'.

This thread is about discussing personal development, it's not related to the group thread which is basically a bit of fun.

I did the program for a couple of weeks or so but I could clearly see it wouldn't work because the numbers increased much faster than my performance did.

Basically what I do now is do pushups to exhaustion three times (my muscles get worn out pretty quick, each consecutive time I will have to give up about 2/3 earlier), every other day. This seemed to be working pretty steadily although I haven't done it for a couple of months, I'll have to get back on it.

I feel the same way but I'm gonna give it a try anyway.

Xei and stonedape - It'll be interesting to see how well it works out, the website does seem to pay little attention to detail. But I'm determined to stick to the program, even if it takes longer, just to prove to myself that I can do it.

Aww, I don't know why I found that statement cute.

Nah bro I think you're good to go. Contextually it's similar to the 15k thread but for intents and purposes, the thread is different.

Besides people, lay up a bit k? So what if some threads are similar in nature? Fitness and Health doesn't get that much action anyway and far be it from any one of us to discourage healthy activity within the forum.

Anyway, I'm more focused on my core and abdominal region but I'll try to jump on board.

I might, but I usually do pushups everynight, so won't follow the program

I will, however, strive to get to 100 PU's at once though. See if my method will work

I can get up to 40-50 in one shot, but it's too much and do less for every rep after. Need to find a sweet spot

Plus, I do them during commercials, so I have 10mins of rest in between sets

Just did week 3 day 2 and it's killing me, I'm so unfit!

I did 14, 19, 14 and 14 then maxed out at 19 on the last set. Still, I probably would have skived it if it wasn't for this thread, so it's working out for me!

Took a few days off and I couldn't even do the next day even though it was less than what I was maxing before, max today was 20, though I did that 3 times.

Might try this since my record for push-ups are 12 girly ones (on your knees). My brother likes to make fun of me because he's a royal marine and can do like a gazillion at once. Luckily I have sit-ups to prove I'm not a complete weakling when it comes to bodyweight exercises.

So, maybe I'll do the program starting with half push ups, then do it again with full push-ups.

From 0-100! Let's see if that ever happens...

I guess I can try this again. This was my goal a few months ago and I almost got there. I did 100 with a few 5-10 second breaks collapsed on the floor but then never tried for the 100 again and got lazy and quit a week or so later. I found that doing consistent reps was getting me farther than switching the numbers around like that program asks for. I started with reps of 20, then 25, and then bumped it way up to 50. I'll see how many I can do when I get home from school.

61 before I collapsed. If I can keep motivated (that's a big if) I should be able to get to 100 before we all get to 15000.

Awesome thread, I could sure use this for my own motivation haha.
Just knocked out 62 before collapsing.... well I took a few seconds of break at 50, so I wonder if that doesn't count? I didn't check the link
I wonder if we could include sit ups in this too

You just had to do one more didn't you.
I take a couple seconds to take a few deep breaths at the top when I need it.

same, I think it still "counts", but I'm more or less hoping I can do 100 non-stop by the end of the year, just so I can feel like I'm actually in shape for once.

Hahahaha wow, I didn't even realize I had done just one more than you, LtT. How odd.
And well yeah, I'm guessing they can be counted "in a row" as long as you don't get off your arms during the set. The resting position was just my arms straight, but still holding my body up, so it counts. I'm kind of excited to see if this actually takes me anywhere

It still counts as long as you maintain proper form throughout the whole thing. I had to stop and catch my breath a few times at the end because I was cranking them out really fast.

Yea, speed helps immensely. You don't get quite as much out of each one, but you can do a lot more.

True that. When I'm working out I like to do them nice and slow on the way down, then explode up. After about 20 of those I get that nice biceps burn. Then I chug a few raw eggs, put on my gray hoodie, and head down to the local slaughterhouse to punch some meat.
