      Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploding_head_syndrome
Exploding head syndrome is a condition that causes the sufferer occasionally to experience a tremendously loud noise as originating from within his or her own head, usually described as the sound of an explosion, roar, waves crashing against rocks, loud voices or screams, a ringing noise, or the sound of electrical arcing (buzzing).

This noise usually occurs within an hour or two of falling asleep, but is not necessarily the result of a dream and can happen while awake as well.[1] While the sound is perceived as extremely loud, it is usually not accompanied by pain. Attacks appear to change in number over time, with several attacks occurring in a space of days or weeks followed by months of remission. Sufferers often feel a sense of fear and anxiety after an attack, accompanied by elevated heart rate. Attacks are also often accompanied by perceived flashes of light (when perceived on their own, known as a "visual sleep start") or difficulty in breathing. The condition is also known as "auditory sleep starts". It is not thought to be dangerous,[1] although it is sometimes distressing to experience.
      Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_sex
Sleep sex or sexsomnia is a form of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) parasomnia (similar to sleepwalking) that causes people to engage in sexual acts such as masturbation, fondling, sexual intercourse and sexual assault or rape while they are asleep. The proposed medical diagnosis is NREM Arousal Parasomnia - Sexual Behaviour in Sleep, and is considered to be a distinct variant of sleepwalking (ICSD 2). There are often unpleasant consequences associated with sleep sex and it has been used as a criminal defense in rape cases. Other negative effects include feelings of shame and embarrassment and also can cause relationship issue and stress.

It's funny that some of these "scary" disorders are what we strive to achieve.

I can't believe they didn't include Sleep Apnea, where you stop breathing once you fall sleep. That one's gotta suck big time.

Yeah, sleep apnea is definitely more spooky than insomnia.

When I was little, quite often I would wake up after a little sleep, and experience either exploding head syndrome, or hyper-acuteness of the senses. Every little, miniscule noise such as turning in bed, moving my sheets, even breathing, would become so unbearably loud. It was like I was in a monster truck stadium or something ridiculously noisy! I couldn't stand it, and I would cry, trying not to make too much noise. Nothing could be processed in my brain because of the loudness. An odd experience if I do say so myself.

Well I can see how sleepwalking could be spooky to someone observing it, but I used to sleepwalk all the time and it never bothered me. I don't see how insomnia is spooky at all.

What about narcolepsy? I mean, some people have actually fallen asleep while driving, which is not a particularly comfortable state I would imagine.

Or while your on the stairs. I have it, but it's not as bad as it used to be. One benefit though is you can hit REM sleep as soon as you goto sleep.

There is some sort of disorder I think it's called chronic insomnia. In which one lacks the ability to sleep whatsoever. This debilitating disorder often results in death over the course of months as the patients organs begin to shutdown from exhaustion. I think that's pretty spooky.

Edit: Ahh I just googled it. It's not chronic insomnia, that would just be normal insomnia, it is called Fatal Familial Insomnia or FFI
