What do you see behind your eyelids?

When I close my eyes, I see black with hints of red, depending on lighting. Sometimes I rub my eyes
and the colors change to basically any color they decide to. I see patterns and swirls, sometimes even
images form. Sometimes it looks like colorful "white noise". It also happens when the room I'm in is pitch black.

Even as a little kid, I remember closing my eyes to go to sleep, but having trouble getting to sleep instantly
because of all the patterns distracting me. What I mean is that I see the inside of my lids, but for some
reason I see colors rather than just darkness.

I described this to multiple people and all of them responded with "Wha?" or "No...", and its so
annoying! I know some person out their sees this as well, maybe I'm just paying too much attention. I came to
notice that right before I LD'd each time I always saw a distinct swirl of burgundy, and I know I'm about to enter a dream.

What I'm getting to is, am I alone? What do you see behind your eyelids?

I see the same. Normally a residual image of what I was last looking at for a long time, when it goes away, tints of red the swirl around in front of me.

This is normal for all people, how did you explain it to your friends?

The same way I explained to you, and I made them close their eyes and tell me what they saw.
They both said something along the lines of, "Light, and the shadows of things passing by"
I kept saying, look closer and describe it, and to rub their eyes, but both just looked confused and said the same.
I asked my mom and she said it was my imagination, heh. I guess that meant she knew what I was talking about.

I see the same thing too. Pretty much what your said lol :)

A lot of times I'll see random images. I'll close my eyes and an image will pop up. If I put pressure right in the corners of them it looks like two other eyes are there.

for me its just darkness and when i rub my eyes its same thing as you. I think everyone who rubs their eyes see some colors of swirls because thats how it functions
