      Insomnia

I'm uncertain whether the title accurately describes what I'm about to write. As this post is created with an incident in mind, rather than the perceived consequence of incidents similar to it. I come to you, in an hour of need. It has been some time since I posted here, and it's been some time since I was actively into lucid dreaming. In these past times, I've only ever attempted WILD'ing a couple of times, and enjoyed whichever DILD's that came along the way. For the purpose of this thread, it suffices to say I'm acquainted with the dreaming process, and the process of falling asleep. Yet not enough it would seem, as I come here seeking your collective expertise.

During the latter part of the last year, I've had to struggle with insomnia. Insomnia, stress (Perhaps with an added post-traumatic stress disorder), and depression. It's no wonder it would affect my sleep, naturally. Yet my insomnia manifests itself in a particularly peculiar way. Let me cut to the chase and describe tonight's incident.

I lie still, allowing thoughts to pass freely, caught in a trance-like state which is an inherent element of the process of falling asleep. My imagination seems fuelled by this state, and I am clearly captivated by it's alluring features. Yet all of a sudden, it very quickly, and very violently changes. My ears are filled with a ringing noise, loud and vicious. It feels strikingly familiar, and for some reason I associate it with evil immidiately. I feel my body tremble with unnatural vigor, and I feel myself pushed towards the end of the bed, in a rush of panic I try to get up, struggling for a second with sleep paralyzis.I hear my mom and my little brother talk in the hallway, and I am overcome by a strong desire to get away from my bed. So I get up. When I put my feet down, and I cannot feel the cold floor, and as I get up I have trouble balancing my weight. I fall forwads, but I grab the shelves there for support. My skin is numb, and I cannot feel my hand's contact with the wooden surface at all. My legs simply stop holding me up, and I fall, dramatically sliding my arms along the shelves as I do, making sure a variety of items fall with me. Did they hear me? I could only wonder, but in this particular moment, I felt no need to get up. No need to do anything at all..

I'm in my bed, my heart contending in a race with my breath. A dream? Hallucination? I have successfully WILD'ed before, I should know? But I cannot answer that question. Thus, I come here.

I am fair and square, loud and clear. Yet, you associate me with fear.

From my knowledge, that was an false awakening, aka a dream which starts in whatever place you fell asleep.
They can be easily turned into lucid dreams, and are often the case when WILD'ing, in your particular case, you were very very close to successful WILD
Those are the reason that you should get used to do an reality check each time whenever you wake up, especially when WILD'ing, otherwise it's very easy to be confused by false awakening as you were, and miss the lucidity.

The insight is appreciated, though could you suggest a solution?

It's my understanding that attempting a WILD before prior sleep is extremely difficult, so it is a bit annoying to experience this when I need to sleep. Doing the reality-checks might help, but most of the time I don't even get that far. The hallucinations(If I may call them that) are extremely elaborate, and more often than not terrifying. I feel that my subconscious draws from my paranoia in order to create a believable scenario and manages to appear extremely frightening. Being pushed/pulled towards the end of the bed, for example is one of the things that I just cannot stand. I noticed in my first WILD experiences as well, that I could suffer through ringing noises, feeling like falling ecetra, but certain things just freak me out.

Well, you are talking to an person who actually quite likes nightmares & other weird stuff.
Though i can suggest one thing, don't think about any stuff/scenarios that is bad/annoying for you before going to bed/WILD and during LD and think about things that are good for you.
Because the more you pay attention to your fear in the dream, the stronger it gets.
