Question The Cons Of Lucid Dreaming

Maybe its just me personally, but sometimes after prolonged lucid dreaming it becomes hard to distinguish reality from dreams. The dreams are too vivid like memories, so when I wake up and continue with my day I find myself wondering if the things i did that day were dreams or actual things ive done......Its interesting but at the same time its weird and interferes with my daily routines and plans. Within a coupkle of days i can probaly figure out a way to stop this but until then any ideas on how to prevent this/ has anyone else had this problem?

I used to love dreams until recently. I have the same issue now, like james franco, every night is a battle against sleep. Your best bet is to do the opposite of what I have done, that is to encourage yourself that your idealistic dream is absolutely not reality.

................No idea what you mean. The dreams are normal, nothing fancy like flying, fighting,ETC. But just a simple dream like waking up and eating breakfast arguing with my parents. Then, after a couple of hours im wondering did it really happen? Was I dreaming?

Oh dear. It seems to me you are experiencing the vague zone between dream and RL. I can only hope you embrace that rather than complain. The more we recognize the thin line between dream and RL, the more we realize that RL is also a dream - just without the dream powers of flight etc.

I am so hip to your complaints, could give many examples. Believe me, it's not a bad thing, just makes 'life' more interesting, doesn't it?

Definitely, I find that im thinking more and more about life, reality, death, etc. Sometimes it depresses me other times it makes me feel really happy and excited. -sigh- guess ill take your word for it. Thanks!!!!

As fine as the line between what seems real and what is your imagination, you must divide and reality check constantly. Find your reason for waking up. “We are asleep. Our Life is a dream. But we wake up sometimes, just enough to know that we are dreaming.”

      When in doubt: Meditate!

I think it's totally normal. It can be confusing but I agree with eyeoneblack- just accept it as a natural process. A mon avis, our nighttime dreaming and daytime dreaming are separated as a result of the materialistic, linear-minded ideological paradigms we live by. I think it's only natural and healthy to be aware of The Dreaming beyond sleep. Recognise that whether or not you actually argued with your parents may be irrelevant. Inwardly you are the same whether it was only dreamed or physically experienced. So use this to better yourself with a positive, progressive attitude. After all, modern psychology has taught us that the only true reality is the unconscious, not to mention the countless, independently developed indigenous frameworks of reality that are all so damn similar.

I started reading about Aboriginal Australian peoples' concepts of "The Dreaming" and how all reality blossoms from this mysterious cosmic energy. It is very intriguing and unsettling as well. It ultimately lead me to that always beautiful, ever familiar sense of being one with the cosmos.

      dream on!

Don't think there are any cons except for use of time required to write/type the dream journal sometimes(when having tons of looong dreams), and that can be solved by writing/typing dreams using keywords.
I don't think the confusion thing is a bad thing, as everyone said, it spices the life up , it often leaves me with sort of amazing feeling when i wake up from an chain of false awakenings and 'dreams within dreams', haha.

Lol I have this all the time too, it's quite annoying to be honest because it only happens with really mundane events. One moment I will tell my friend some rumor about something just to realize a moment later that I was told that by a dream character . It's more of a con than a pro, really there is absolutely no advantage for me. It basically just makes my everyday life harder and more confusing than they already are.

Lucid dreaming can become addictive and this may affect your natural sleeping patterns and create unexpected health change.

If anyone is concerned about the above, just try MILD/DILD and see if that helps, right?

I quite often have difficulty distinguishing dreams from memories of being very drunk. I tend to dream about parties and nights out. After a day or two, the memories of actual (drunken) events and dreams become qualitatively indistinguishable. I find this pretty inconsequential, though. Marquis, if you're dreaming about daily routine, try to remember to reality-check at the most mundane times, even when you're certain you're awake. Get into the habit and it'll lead into some nice DILDs.

There are those times you're having an incredible dream and when you become lucid you're disappointed because you know it's not real.

Based on what? Sleep patterns do not change just because you are lucid.
As for addiction, that's not really a valid concern. Everything can be addictive, even orange juice, that's nowhere an argument to say that there are cons to drinking it

The real question though is one that wasn't properly discusses so far (it seems to me): is WBTB healthy? Some variations of it certainly aren't because they diminish the quality of your sleep.

Before I started being interested in lucid dreaming again, it never occurred to me that I might mistake dream memories for real life memories. However, even if that danger is there, I'll take it, because see, before I started pursuing lucid dreaming a lot of things did not occur to me, but just because they didn't wasn't due to it not being a danger but due to my paying less attention to myself. So maybe now I may realize that a memory I have may have been a waking or a dreaming memory, but before my waking memories were like non-lucid memories lots of times, but I just was not aware enough in neither dreaming nor waking life to realize that. Some people say ignorance is bliss. I am not one of them.

Ah, I have had this problem all my life with straight up dream memories, not lucid ones. Lucid dreams are normally too out there that when remembering it I know it was a dream 100% (even though they are just as clear memories and visuals). I guess after more LDs I might have more of a problem though, another problem for another time for me. nothing to worry about for now.
