      Lucid Dreaming feels fake

      Hey DV,

Don't get me wrong, I do believe Lucid Dreaming is real. In fact, I had 2 lucids last night. My problem is that, when I wake up from a LD, it feels like the whole experience was a bit 'fake'. It feels like the 'me' in my dream is not the same person as the 'me' in waking life. For example, in one of my last lucid dreams, I decided to try out flying. If I had to try out flying right now, I would just jump and try to lift off. In my dream however, I dived out of the window and fell to on the ground. I think it's weird that I did that, I wouldn't dare to do that, that's not how I had planned to try out flying. I'd like to emphasize that in the dream I am lucid. I know that I'm acutally in bed and that I'm in a dream. It's just that when I wake up the experience I just had feels fake.
I think the best way to put it is that after waking up it feels like I just had a dream about myself having a lucid dream instead of having a lucid dream.

I know it must sound weird, but I hope I explained well and that you know what I'm talking about. Has anyone ever had similar experiences, or what I could do to improve my results?

yep. i can feel you exactly and having the exact same issues. i think you have to differentiate between real lucid dreams and just dreaming about being lucid.
in my case it went like this: playing football and in the middle of it after chasing the ball in slow-mo my conscious mind told me: im dreaming right now , arent I? then i tried to make some epic plays in the game and failed horribly.
after i woke up i was thinking why would i do something so pointless?

my advice is just dont give up. one day you will have one hell of a lucid dream and will feel like a fking boss after waking up

Well, there's a certain contrast between your sleepying self and your waking self, if this is what you are talking about. Our brain functions differently in each state. Lucidity is like a bridge between the waking state and the normal dreaming state and depending on where on that bridge you are your sense of self will be different. People usually refer to low lucidity and high level lucidity. With the high level lucidity you usually are closest to your daily self - you can remember tasks more easily and execute them more or less the way you planned.

But not being in that fully lucid state isn't that bad either because you can explore unknown facets of your personality and perhaps come up with more creative solutions. Also, in waking life there might be a few ways to think of doing things (even if you plan for a dream), while in the dream state the possibilities are endless. For example, as you go along and journal your dreams as well as have more lds, you might discover that there are many ways to fly or move around.

If I could fly in my waking life, I would also probably just jump out of the window and take off without second thought.

But I know I can't fly, so when I'm imagining how I would fly, I would also just start to hower in my room and then when sure that I can fly, I would carefully fly off.

But in a lucid dream, I know I can fly, because I know it's a dream. So I just throw myself from the first window. All cautions be damned.

This doesn't feel fake to me. It's just 2 different me's in 2 different worlds with different set of rules.

      Thanks for your response.
I understand your point, but for me it was the first time I tried to fly and I had no doubts, isn't that a bit strange?

What was you doing about one hour ago? Does it seems like ''fake'' to you? It does to me! Memories seems like as you said ''fake'' no matter that in you IWL or in a lucid dream.

Basically, I don't think you've had a level four lucid dream. It took me maybe 15 LDs before I had one where I felt I was "fully" conscious. I remember when I became so aware, as aware as I am in my day to day life. It may take a while, but once you reach that level you wake up with no doubts whatsoever. It does take a while. But you get to a place where you're as conscious and aware as always.

That's a good point, you're right. Memories from waking life are also not very vivid to me. But it's not just the 'image' I have in my head from the situation in that dream, it's the thoughts that were appearing in my head at that time. For example, if I managed to fly right now I would find it exhilarating, but in the dream I kinda casually went on flying without really enjoying it, that doesn't feel right to me. Perhaps I should give it some time, maybe my lucidity just wasn't high enough, like NyxCC and Senge mentioned.

At the begining of a lucid dream I do 5 minutes excercise which deepen my awareness.

By the way are you really from Netherlands? It's a coincidence, I'm going to your country this week!

I have had dreams that feel fake, but I think the first "breakthrough moment" that any LDer has, is the first time that he has a lucid that is so close to waking, the he can barely believe that it is a dream. Your mind stays blown for weeks after that.

Sure there is some dreams that are considered way too much for waking life, but there are dreams that do feel real, and i get those kind of dreams sometimes and i do come to a point that i didn't know if i was dreaming or awake...which is kind of hallucinations while you wake after/during a dream, and for me it's kind of way too advanced for anyone to read lol. At this point of waking it's in the middle, your dream shows you your bedroom and you wakeup in your bedroom, so that is kind of hard to explain if you didn't experience it.

      Silentium. *

Yeah I know what you mean about the flying.*
When I flew the first couple of times I was a little disappointed that it didn't give me any real sense of movement or speed, after a few times though I started flying faster, them sensations kicked in and it's felt great ever since so just keep trying. **

If you only have the skills to do so you can experience anything you can imagine as real.
