Noob making progress: Two dream recalls in one night!

So far, no lucid dream, but given where I started (no ability of dream recall except by accident maybe once per year) thirteen dream recalls in just under one month, and TWO just last night alone has given me significant encouragement that I'll eventually reach my goal. To the extent the foregoing may convince even one other newbie not to give up, allow me to bear witness to just how far you can come in just thirty days, even at my age (60). If >>I<< can make that kind of progress, then anyone can.

The only thing I bring to the table is an overwhelming desire to succeed at experiencing regular lucid dreams, and a willingness to employ the techniques pioneered by others that have documented as successful. If you are as new to this endeavor as I am, I can't emphasize enough how invaluable the collective knowledge and experience of this site is to your eventual success. Read, read, read. Also, although I've only gotten 70 or so pages into Stephen LaBerge's book "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" there is no doubt in my mind that the thoughts, theories, and techniques set out so cogently in that text were a major contributor to me being able to recall two discrete dreams last night! Wow...I can't tell you how astonished I was by that. Get it. Read it.

I'm looking forward to collecting enough dream journal entries that I'll be able to identify dream signs to help coax me into lucidity. 2014 is my year for this attainment!

Wow. I can't even imagine having a 'once-per-year' recall. Has it always been like that? Congratulations on your achievements and for sure you will reach your goal, even more now that you're more excited.

      Good luck!

Astaroth: No, it wasn't always like that. In my childhood I had plenty of dreams, and I suppose I had "the average" amount of lucid ones as well. I just had no idea what they were back fifty years ago when I was ten years of age. I have independent recollections of several in which I was flying and doing other impossible things. Basically, what happened is that I "grew up". Demands of getting an education, making and keeping friends, finding and holding jobs, getting married and having a family put many, many things that one COULD be doing out of mind.

Any dream ability I once had in childhood atrophied from disuse. I recently stumbled upon the subject of lucid dreaming while bumbling about on-line and remembered (with great fondness) my childhood days of vivid daydreaming, and occasional, spontaneous lucid dreaming. A LOT has changed. It is probably hard for you - one who has grown up in the "information age" - to understand that there was at time when NO information about lucid dreaming. No research. No specialized techniques. No internet. Probably the term "lucid dreaming" hadn't even been coined when I was young.

Anyway, the possibilities of recouping this ability is very exciting and compelling to me. It doesn't detract in any manner from any other activity at this point in my life, so I've affirmatively decided to make it a priority. Perhaps that's why I'm playing catch-up so quickly. I hope with all my heart that with my own persistence and the kind assistance of the folks on this forum, and the techniques set forth in Stephen LaBerge's book, that I'll meet my goal of experiencing the first of many an LD in the near future.

Yeah, even though I've grown up in the ''information age'' I discovered lucid dreaming just a year ago and because a friend of mine told me about it, if he didn't who knows when would I have discovered it, so I totally understand how difficult it was to get information about it fifty years ago. That said, even nowadays there's people out there having lucid dreams and not knowing that they're not the common thing.

Well, it's never too late, isn't it?
