Question Should I not be discouraged by SP and use WILD?

You know how everyone is saying that SP is like a very scary process.. =w= It sort of bugs me, but WILD has a higher chance into going to lucid dreaming right? So, should I give SP a try and can someone like share some nice experience about SP =w= Everyone is like clouding SP with negativity..

      Hi,

The truth is that the thing people expierence during WILDs is actually called 'Rem Atonia' not an 'Sleep Paralysis'.
Original Sleep Paralysis is medical condition that affects some people
And people usually mistake SP for RA many times since they are quite similar.

You shouldn't fear or be afraid of Rem Atonia which we meet during WILDing
It's not a thing that can hurt you at all. It's natural process that we experience everytime as we transition into a dream world.
That 'unable to move' part of Rem Atonia is just mechanism that is used to make sure you won't hurt yourself in dreams by moving your real body.
It might sound as if we were completly unable to move during rem atonia (Paralysed?) or even escape from it but that's not actually a truth
With enough conscious effort it's kinda easy to break out of rem atonia
It can be considered similar to situations where you wake up tired and your too lazy to get up out of bed. You feel like it's too hard to get up and decide to fall back asleep, or maybe even use more effort to get up

Some people unfortunely during WILDs do a check by moving their limbs to see whether they are in rem atonia or not
That is quite bad idea since you will most likely be able to move and if you were already in rem atonia you will destroy your wild attempt or at best slow it down

That was the paralysis part of rem atonia.
There's also other stuff that you might meet on your journey
      - Random Sounds
      - Random Shapes
      - Random Images
      - Random Scenes
      - Vibrations
      - Other stuff
Lots of stuff, yet don't worry too much. It might sound freaky and lot of people describe the first meets with rem atonia very scary, yet i can tell you a thing:
People who tried out WILD Techniques and meet those sensations without knowing that they might appear were scared because they didn't know what happend, i assume
That's where most of scary opinions comes out. You except WILD Technique to be lie still and wait till you appear in dream, yet for some reason you start seeing shapes, hearing non existing sounds and feeling vibrations. You sure would be shocked and scared as heck.
Then you decide to go on internet find out what was that stuff be it either sleep paralysis or rem atonia described and write on some website how scary it was

Yet if you meet Rem Atonia prepared i can tell you that those sensations are kinda awesome.
I barely myself get any of them during WILDs yet if i have chance to get them then i enjoy them

If you know what will happen and what your doing then you will most likely enjoy the show
So there's need to be afraid. Those sensations happen to you everytime your entering rem phase (aka dreams?) at night, yet you don't remember them since you were unconscious during that time. WILD is just entering a dream like that yet while staying conscious

Don't be afraid to try to WILD! It will almost definitely not be as scary as some experiences that people have with SP. The vast majority of people never have to deal with those horror stories that some people tell here. Usually when I'm trying to WILD, my body will get to a point where It's relaxed enough that I could still move if I wanted to, but it feels too good to lay still and I know that if I do move I will have to relax all over again to get to that point so that I can enter a dream. I have never had to deal with any of the scary stuff like feeling claustrophobic or suffocating and I don't think many do. Just relax, be optimistic, and enjoy the ride!

So there's nothing to be worried about, WILD is a lot of fun.

Besides that, SP hallucinations can be controlled to some degree. I am surprised nobody does this, considering the scary part comes from being afraid in the first place.

Some people report seeing angels during SP, all because they were not afraid so just think of SP as a boggart from HP and then use riddikulus or something.

I've never found sleep paralysis to be a negative experience. I would give it a try.

Duh! I also like my SP/rem atonia experiences, I always thought it was fun. WILD/WBTB is definitely worth it, even if you find SP scary.

Snoop, was it you who had the crazy awesome SP experience where you felt like you were floating off your bed and having your limbs torn apart from your body? Cause that was extreme and I can't remember who got that one.

Yes, very good memory walms/Hukif! That and my teeth were being yanked from my mouth and I tasted blood, but somehow the pain was a knowledge and not a feeling if that makes sense. I thought the experience was so cool because up until that point I didn't know my mind was capable of causing such an experience. Hopefully that doesn't scare you OP. In fact, it should do just the very opposite! You would probably read the experience there and think that it must've been terrifying, but I thought it was awesome and exhilarating. But, I had heard of SP before that experience, so if it happened and I had no clue what was happening, I might have been afraid, I don't know. But, the good news is, you know what SP is, right? So if it happens to you, you will already know that you are perfectly safe and the experience will probably just turn out to be really cool.

It makes sense, and to this day I'm still envious... last thing I tried was creating a demon during a SP episode and forcing it to attack me; later on the demon got angry because I knew it was a hallucination and tried to convince me otherwise, which if not for the SP would have been laughing for a few minutes like some crazy person; that demon was just so hilarious!

And indeed OP, many experiences when seen as a real entity may be terrifying; but when changed over to a known effect of the mind and its implications can become fun and amazing signs of what the mind can really do. In fact, I think we are in dire need of a "positive SP experiences" thread to take away some of the SP myths.

Recently I had my first SP and for me it was a cool experience

I am lying in my bed unable to move my body. "Shit, that must be the sleep paralysis" I think. I had some experiences with the Sp before but they were all very short. However this time it isn't the same. I get fear, but than I calm down and tried to open my real eyes. I see the time, which is projected on the ceiling "20:white", I read. 20 white? One moment I am still dreaming! Than I wake up. Some time later I try fall asleep and find myself again in the SP. This time I don't get fear and suddenly the Sp is very relaxing like warm waves flowing through my body. Than I see two cute figures which are blue and pink. They talk with me and ask me why I was so scared in the last SP. Moreover they say to me, that I don't need to be afraid of it. And some time later I get a lucid dream.

OMG... Thank you for all these positive comments. Now after reading all these comment I kinda feel idiotic being afraid of SP or AR xD. Since Im on term break I might as well try it out. :x I'm merely afraid of the grudge which crawls into my room xD... thinking about it still gives me the creeps xP

Once what you know what it is, it isn't scary. My dad told me what it was at a young age, and when I had it I knew what it was. I've NEVER had a scary experience in SP. The "worst" was a cold hand touching me, and even then I wasn't scared. I knew I was in SP and so I knew it wasn't real and it didn't feel threatening.
