      Question All Day Awareness help!

I was reading up on all day awareness, (ADA) here on the forum and was wondering if anybody could clarify some points for me?

Firstly I want to practice ADA to become more aware, hoping that this will help induce DILD's. In the article that I read, it describes how you should listen to the patter of your dogs foot steps as you are walking, feel the muscles in your legs as you're walking and look out for shadows etc, (there where more things listed such as being aware when you are breathing/blinking).

My question is, am I supposed to think of all of these things at the same time, or one by one? Also do I keep revisiting them?

Also should I perform reality checks in conjunction with this, or is ADA pretty much one big reality check anyway?

Any advice/further information/experiences would be greatly appreciated!

P.S for anyone interested the article that I am referring to is: http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...kingyoshi.html

HI there! Yes, that is a great article. I read it. I would assume that it's one big reality check because if you notice something that is usually stable become unstable without free will, like breathing or blinking for example, then that would help trigger lucidity. If any irregularities in the environment do happen to come to your attention, at that point, an additional reality check is optional in order to clarify any doubts as to whether or not you are in fact dreaming. It's impossible to be aware of all these things (blinking, breathing, shadows) at the same time, in my opinion. I would every now and then zone in on any one of these things during any particular time of day to catch anything that could point to any signs that you are dreaming. I hope this was helpful.

You're building mindfulness, Buddhists generally suggest you start simple, a nun I talked to recently suggested the following routine for beginners.

      Be mindful during:

      - At least one meal (of any size)
      - A walk (of any distance)

Plus 15 minute seated meditation every day for a week.

So start with something like the above, if you don't want to or don't know how to do seated meditation then maybe something like:

      - Be aware during a meal
      - Be aware during a walk
      - Be aware during brushing your teeth
      - Be aware during reading something on the internet

      To start off with.

It really is a good article, very in depth. Thanks for clarifying those points for me ! Im thinking of setting a half hourly alarm to remind me to 'become aware' as I find my self drifting off at times and just going about things without paying any attention ! Hopefully ada will be my answer to lucid dreams !

Thanks for the reply, i think I will encorporate this into my routine! I think at first the 15 minutes meditation a day might be a bit too much but it is definitely something to build up to! Should I be trying to suss out the flavours ect when eating the meal ?

I have something else I would like to add. I got some advice from NyxCC, who is a very experienced lucid dreamer. (One of the teachers in the intro class) The advice I got was to just remember to be aware and be aware of things in general. It shouldn't be mentally exhausting and shouldn't drain you. You don't have to notice every little tiny detail, just be more aware than you are now. It should be enjoyable to be aware and after a while, the results will start showing and you'll get LD's a lot more frequently.

Also this is just a suggestion but by all means do whatever you feel like. Maybe don't use the timer, because you want to build up your awareness naturally. So just be aware whenever you naturally remember to. Or you could use the timer at first and then build up to it just being natural?

Hopefully I helped. Anyways, good luck Lucid Dreaming!

It's not so much about sussing out flavours as not being distracted by other things, for example don't eat and read at the same time, or eat and watch TV etc...

      When you eat just eat.
When you walk just walk; normally when we're walking we're busy thinking about where we're going or doing or remembering something without paying attention to the things around us. Like the people that walk around looking at their mobile phones.
