What's it like to speak another Language in a Lucid Dream?

I speak English as my main language, but I also speak a bit of German. However, I'm not fluent. I wonder, what's it like to have a conversation with a dream character in a language you're not fluent in? Do they replicate your lack of fluency? (I would assume so), do they speak gibberish that you automatically understand, or can your subconscious mind pick out bits of the language you had otherwise forgotten and help you speak the language a little better?

I once had a dream where I was speaking a Native American language, and had yellow subtitles in English in the bottom; that was a strange one.

Anyhow, if anyone has any interesting experiences with languages in their dreams, lucid or otherwise, it would be great to hear about it. Have you ever found you had a degree of fluency you'd never attain before, or perhaps could speak an alien tongue? Or speak cat? Linguistics is a fascinating thing. How does it work in the world of dreams?

I once had a dream where I was deaf, and sign language was my main language. Doesn't count, since I am rather fluent in the language.

When characters speak in Japanese is when it turns into gibberish. I pick up on sounds and certain words, but I am extremely influent at Japanese, so it made no sense to me.

When I do have dreams in Japanese, I seem to know more than I do in the waking world. So, yes, to a degree, I speak a language more fluently in a dream.

I figured it would be kind of like that! I suppose if you don't know a language your brain will simply fill in the blanks. I had thought that since I have degree of proficiency in German I might be able to use lucid dreaming to recall things I had otherwise forgotten.

One thing I had thought about was the phenomenon where some people wake up after an accident and can, for example, suddenly speak French; I had wondered if maybe you could recall bits of foreign language you had heard out and about with some accuracy, bit I suppose that theory is probably just a little farfetched. It's good to know that you can practice as you had the opportunity to with sign language, though!

      Thanks!

I also speak a little bit of german. I have had dreams where I have spoken it (not a ton, but I did) and it came more fluently to me. The issue however was that I was speaking to only English speakers in the dream. This is interesting, I will add it to my to-do list.

      Hi there!
I've got a piece of paper as an answer to a ToTM DC question once in a "foreign language" with the explanation, that I would know the answer, once I would have learned that language. Weell.

I once had a dream where when people were speaking, little speech bubbles were above their heads. Though it was just random numbers, letters and symbols.

It made me lucid however, when someone said 'hello' and I noticed a 'U' in their speech bubble
