Anyone had any success just using reality checks?

For awhile I've been working on the WBTB technique. I have had a little bit of success with lucid dreaming this way but unfortunately I'm going to have to get a job ASAP so I probably won't be able to practice as I've been doing. (I'm going to need to get proper sleep).

I have started doing reality checks on a daily basis, particularly pinching, and this has alerted me in a previous dream before that I was dreaming. Do you think reality checks can be enough or do you HAVE to use a method to get good at it such as WBTB?

I hate that I'm going to be giving up time which I would otherwise be able to dedicate to my LD goals. If it weren't for that I would be completely over the moon about working!

You will get some lucid dreams with just reality checks but the effort/reward is pretty dam low. For me atleast I hardly get lucid doing just rc. But at the same time doing wbtb can still work out nicely while having a job, I have to get up at 4.30 every morning and I still do wbtb with wild technique even sometimes but its just a matter of balance meaning don't do it every single night but you can still get away with a wbtb every second day or more as long as you not in bed too late.

RCs can cause a lucid in the form of a DILD, but as LucidEveryNight said, it is very inconsistent. A possible technique you could also do is MILD, which as most requires you to go to bed a couple minutes earlier. It takes very little time and not too much effort, but is more consistent and has higher chances of success than just RCs. I'd suggest you go read up on the tutorial here, but don't stop doing your RCs either. Combining the two can have better effects than one by itself.

I appreciate your response. I will check out the MILD technique. Thank you!

Pinching? That's a reality check but not really a good one, I would say. If it works for you, go ahead and use it but, as many have experienced, pain is something that does happen in dreams, so it's possible that you'll pinch yourself in a dream and it will hurt and you'll think you're awake. Plus it can be bad for your skin if you do it repeatedly and in the same or close spot. There are much better reality checks out there, just saying.

      I would say "just"

True, you can have success only using "RC" but the more skills and the better mindset, the more successful you will get!

My very first LD was because of reality checking constantly through the week. In fact, most of the LD's I've had have been DILD's thanks to RC'ing. It is possible, but you need to find what works best for you. A combination of techniques may help.

Don't let a job stop you from doing WBTB.
I work long hours an get a full 6 hours sleep, if I'm going to try a WBTB then I just get to bed half hour earlier to make up for the 15-30 mins sleep I loose!

Nothing makes you more awake in the morning then having an LD or an awesome dream that night

I think the comments are all right on. I really agree a combination of methods works best for DILD, and I also think everyone is a little different, so you have to find the combination that works best for you. Also I am thinking from personal experience the methods have to "feel right" for you, since this is a mental game and your subconscious has to buy into it.

In my experience. Reality checks work only part of the time. However I also do two other things which are stare at my hands and keep my heart rate down before bed. I realize that the heart rate is not one of the "how to lucid dream" but it helps me stay calm in a dream to notice a dream sign.

Huh? Focusing on breath as a lucid dreaming technique?

Honestly, Ive never become lucid because of a reality check. Most of the time, Ill slowly start piecing together the fact that im in a dream and realize it. I use reality checks to increase my lucidity or to already confirm that im in a dream.

I get many lucids like this too, but I have had some lucids saying, "Well... I know I am not awake, this is not a dream..." **** checks hands **** "7 fingers! Woah.... actually I am dreaming." So RC will add more lucids, but it is not the only way to get a lucid
