Ive been shot!!!!!!!*grabs wound and collapses to the floor*

      hehe...
anyways, I had a dream the other night that i was sleeping with my boyfriends somewhere and some man came in and was trying to kill me. He shot my boyfirend (not fatally tho) and he shot me 9 times. I remember praying to God tho, and the bullets never penetrated, they only bruised my side, right on my right side on the 5th rib up i think, but i felt it. as a matter of fact, this really freaked me out, i felt it when i woke up too...my rib was sore when i woke up and i think it may have even left a bruise. was i just like beating the crap out of myself in my sleep or something? lol
you all laugh because i am different.

As in, plural? Haha, just kidding...

Anyway, I've had numerous occasions where I've felt pain within a dream. Of coarse, I am referring to pain which was brought on as a result of dream content. Even a couple of times, I had woken to feel the pain linger for a few seconds. I've never been left with a bruise or anything like that, so I believe this is a common phenomenon generated by the mind.

      Hey freakish,

that's something that would be really interesting to explore - how occurences experienced by the mind may effect your physical body. I mean, obviously the only way to get a bruise physically is to actually have someone/thing hit you. However, if in your dream, you (your mind) experiences pain in a particular area of your physical body, wouldn't your mind still react to that pain. Usually our body reacts by pumping more blood to the effected area (isn't this why we swell up and get red marks and bruises?).

So, could it be that if the mind "thinks" it's body has been damaged, would it still send out the signal to pump blood and try to heal the effected area?

      Hmmmmm......

I differ. Bruising is caused by burst capillarys, small amounts of blood leakage subcutaneously.

An example is a particularly strained workout session. I used to be a cyclist, and in really intense races would later find bruising around my quad's and sometimes calves.

Probably caused by muscle tension effectively "hitting" the tissues from below repeatedly.

So could straining the obliques and/or upper/lower abdominals if "mentally shot" cause bruising? Jury is out, of course, but I could find a logical explanation to test, yes. An MRI would tell-all (but that's kinda extreme, eh? Atleast I didn't suggest a biopsy! )

HAHA I didn't even notice that before

Anyway, yeah I'd say sore muscles or something too. Either that or your bf was dreaming about kicking someone's ass and your ribs were the ass.

I think that one guy who spoke of the mind pumping blood may be correct, but then again, I've never had bruises from dreams.

Just last week I found a bruise below my wrist. I hadn't noticed it before, so it did freak me out a bit. It's hard to pinpoint it to a nightmare. There's been plenty of times IN DREAMS that I've gone though fights, shootouts, stabbings, explosions and nothing's been out of place. It is curious though!
Do you seriously think that blood is the only thing in this world that is colored red?
