Anonymous Poll: Would you be interested in anonymously meeting up with fellow lucid dreamers

Everyone...please take another anonymous, quick 2 answer poll here:
      http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...uick-easy.html

Meeting up with other lucid dreamers and sharing your lucid experiences and practices can be a blast!

Would you be interested in anonymously meeting up with fellow lucid dreamers? The poll will not list who participated but feel free to discuss as well.

This is nothing official at this point. I am just trying to get an idea of whether this is an idea worth pursuing. I would want a system in place to RSVP anonymously or under a different name to protect member's identities and member's locations in cases where that may be important to some DV members.

I think it is a cool idea, fogelbise. If we yearly met up at a dream conference somewhere (preferably within US but if international, ok), I would try to be there.

That would be interesting. Wasn't there also a Lucid Dreaming festival somewhere? I can't recall where it was..... but there were quite a lot of people meeting each other there. So something like this might be very good

I would love to meet up with fellow dreamers, but I'm all the way in Australia.
It's pretty likely that I'll travel to the US at some point though, so I'd definitely attend if it lined up with my travels.
I'm sure I'll be super anonymous in amongst all the other purple-haired members!

@Dreamer Lol...perhaps you can wear a wig. I would love to meet you.

@Dreambeard: I think I heard there was one in England in the past but not sure about the US. I am thinking of a not for profit gathering but it honestly seems like it would be very small scale considering this is the most popular lucid dreaming forum I know of.

I have met with another lucid dreamer for lunches and it was a ton of fun to chat at length about one of my favorite subjects.

I wonder why so many wouldn't participate at all? I love lucid dreaming and love to talk to others about it. Maybe newbies?

It might just be that people are more comfortable communicating from a distance and/or in writing. I imagine it could be quite nerve-racking to go to an unfamiliar place with people you've never met, especially by yourself.

I'm going to fill out the poll with the long distance flying option, but it would still depend on whether the timing suited.

Thinking about anonymity more, I would personally prefer to be able to match faces with member's names, if people were comfortable to do so. I would understand if some people wanted their identity to remain private though.

@Dreamer that is a good point. That definitely could be the reason and I would just hope that anyone feeling that way would realize that we are all in the same boat heading into the unknown.

I like the idea of matching names with faces for anyone comfortable to do so as you suggested.

This is an excellent idea, Fogelbise. I've attended 3 of Stephen LaBerge's Dreaming & Awakening retreats, and by far the most interesting -- and fulfilling -- aspect of my time there was face time with fellow dreamers, and an opportunity to have discussions about LD'ing that simply cannot be had in an online format... also, at the time I was moderating LaBerge's website forum, and it was a hoot meeting the people driving all those posts...

I'm wondering if maybe your OP was a bit vague, though -- maybe a little elaboration of what you'd like to see occur at these meetings would spark some interest?

Good idea, though! I'd be willing to attend, if possible.

p.s. I just noticed this thread today... could it be that it was swallowed up by forum activity before anyone got a view of it?

I have talked to many people, but very few people live in the midwest, much less Kansas. :/ I would be willing to drive up to 25 miles of my city if someone else wanted to drive the rest of the way.

Sageous, you showing would be awesome! I was thinking of something on the casual side of things like meeting an old friends over lunch. I see some pros and cons of something more structured. What do you think?

And Sensei, something in Kansas could have a Wizard of Oz theme...haha, but really. And anyone near you would be foolish not to meet up.

How about casual with an agenda?

Yes, casual is good, and it would be nice to meet and chat with fellow dreamers about, well, whatever we're chatting about. Unfortunately, unguided chat tends to stray quickly, to the point where the attendees are in separate cocktail-party-huddles discussing not dreams but things like politics, the weather, hometowns, or how good/crappy the food is at this place. Such a gathering would be nice, sure, but it would be nicer, I think, if we were able to take advantage of a bunch of dedicated dreamers actually gathering in one place.

I think people would be attending your meets in order to mine the thoughts and experiences of their compatriots, so something to keep those thoughts at the surface is a good idea. Perhaps as host you could poll attendees ahead of time to see what they want to discuss most, or what they most want to get out of their time at the meeting. Then, when we meet, simply hold a list of the most common (or interesting) topics from that poll in your pocket, and pull it out now and then to suggest something more interesting to discuss than the weather.

A while back a group of LaBerge Dreamcamp alumni would gather in Manhattan for drinks and a meal every few months, just to chat about dreaming -- and a couple of these guys were very advanced, and brimming with acquired knowledge -- but the trouble was, we simply chatted: it was so nice to join with kindred souls that we quickly forgot what had brought us together (LD'ing), and just chatted about things like politics, the weather, or how good/crappy the food was at the restaurant we visited. The visits were nice, but we never walked away feeling like they were more than visits.

So, sort of a structured casual, I think...

Charlie Morley has his lucid dreaming USA tour coming up in 2015. IASD also has its conference in Virginia this summer. If we wanted structure, we could attend one of these events, participate in activities that seemed agreeable, and meet up for dinners for discussion. Just brainstorming. If I were to fly somewhere, though, I would want to hang out with other dreamers for more than a day. It would also be nice to meet you all within the context of some dream event, so we all are on topic

Everyone...please take another anonymous quick and easy poll here: http://www.dreamviews.com/general-lu...uick-easy.html

Excellent ideas Sageous and ThreeCat! My OP wasn't very well written...but hopefully people are reading on down the page. Those conferences can be pricey but if enough people showed interest in traveling cross country as needed then some could informally agree to meet up at (or near) those conferences. I like Sageous' format for sure. I would travel to Manhattan to meet up, assuming the right timing. There is so much to see and do all around that area that it could be a multipurpose trip.

The tricky part for me is my wife...she thinks lucid dreaming is "something I shouldn't mess with." Ugh!

      Wow (!!!!) BIG synchronicity (!!!)

I've been composing this post for over an hour (searching for my pic's. I wanted to invite "BatteryCharged" to mutual dream with me on a real geographical beach, where I live.

I just posted it then came to the front-page to seee the latests posts and found you guys here on the same wavelength. Wow (!!!) Sink-sink-sink >synchronicity (meaningfull coincidence), here's what I just posted .....

      Spoiler for Precog dream experiment:

And "yes" to your poll. I am not a Lucid Dreamer but that never hindered my Psi-dreaming.

Even if we're not able to meet personally, maybe we should have a sort of "group chat" online. For example, on Skype. We could have a set number of people joining the session. Once everyone's in (the set number), we start Skyping (or however you may want to do it). I think this may serve as a good pre-requisite, for lack of a better term, to see how motivated we are to actually want to meet each other for real. Anyway, just a thought

I am pretty surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for this. Not being able to share LDs with others sharing this common interest has been one of my biggest frustrations.

Yeah...the responses have been more encouraging lately. Even a mention of meeting lucid dreamers in person in Sensei's recent podcast (his podcasts are recommended listening...see his signature).

Here's what I'm thinking at the moment. The vast majority of those interested in meeting up are looking to not travel too far. I would like to request that DV create a sub-forum or section (perhaps entitled "Meet In Person") where people can post where they are interested in meeting up. A majority are not worried about anonymity but for those who are I recommend they have a member that they trust post in the appropriate thread for them. For example: fogelbise posting proxy for "anonymous #1" (or for "Manhattanite007"...or whatever) in the "Manhattan meetings" thread. Scenario: Sageous interested in same thread. Sageous PM's fogelbise and fogelbise makes the connection OR Anonymous #1 PM's Sageous directly if they are comfortable to do so. Members can post their interest in as many threads or locales that they would be interested in meeting at or travelling to. What does everyone think? I think it also would need to have a sticky or rule that it is only for ages 18 and up as well and general tips to make sure people are meeting in safe, public places like busy coffee shops. Specifics of meetings could be hashed out by PM. This section of the forum could be made readable by members only.

What do the DV staff members think?
