Do certain diseases affect your lucidity?

I am diagnosed with brain aneurysm. The bleeding of brain. It is in the brain and we use brain to dream, obviously, I wonder if disease like this can affect your lucidity? Like the title implies, is there certain diseases that can ruin your lucidity?

Did it rupture, and if not is some form of surgical procedure being considered?

It ruptured a bit on the right side of my brain. Even though just a bit, it hurts like hell. I went through embolization which the surgeon put something in my brain to seal off the blood vessel. It's not an open surgery though and it's much safer.

My sister had two rupture simultaneously. She lives in the middle of the sticks (Adirondack Montains) and it was a good 9 or 10 hours before she arrived at the second hospital, which was the nearest trauma center that could handle it. The weather was too bad for a Mercy Flight. One they were able to handle like yours, at least I think you're describing endovascular coiling via a microcatheter. The other required surger and clipping because the neck of the aneurysm was too large for coiling.

I can't answer your original question as I am not a neurosurgeon/nueroscientist and even for them I imagine there are many subtle variables that make it difficult to make accurate predictions. However keep in mind the brain has plasticity. It can change with mental exercise. In fact my sister had substantial damage and loss of function, and she regained a good portion of it through rehab. Probably back to 85% and her damage was massive. It was a miracle she survived and I guess it helped she had the head of neurosurgey and cardiovascular surgey work on her.

Anyway, best wishes on your recovery and keep on top of any rehab work.

It's pretty difficult for your average lucid dreamer to answer that question, unless they have some medical background.. I'll give it a try though. I think it should not affect your ability to lucid dream if the problem area in your brain is not near the parts of the brain that deal with memory and self awareness.

Could very well be wrong though, so to be sure you should ask a specialist.

I can't speak for most medical conditions, but I'd imagine mental health effects your dream states significantly. Since dreams are based mostly on your day to day events and your thoughts and feelings, how each individual person deals with their condition and spends their time is bound to effect their dreams. For example one person might be a logical thinker and have OCD, where as another might be an abstract thinker and have Autism, and I'd imagine those factors to effect their thought processes and thus their capability, desire or perhaps even willingness to live in a dream as opposed to the real world.

Eventhough i was diagnosed by this disease. I can remember anything just fine but when the powerful headache strikes, my mind become uncontrollable and starts forgetting something. Is attaining lucidity is more about imagination in your mind than to rely on the health of your brain? Do you understand what i mean?

I'd imagine if there's no pain it shouldn't be an issue because it sounds like you are still where you have always been cognitively... but if there is pain during a dream, the dream probably won't last long due to your energy shifting focus to the pain.

I almost manage to LDing yesterday. I guess brain aneurysm doesnt affect LDing after all. I am not in pain during that time too.

As long as you are able to be conscious in waking world, use memory like every other human and be able to have dreams then lucidity is possible,
Isn't lucidity just mix of dreaming and consciousness and memory afterall ?
