How to realize that you're dreaming in your dream without waking up?

Hey everyone I'm Karl and 17 years old.

And I've been quite trying to lucid dream for month now, I wasn't trying for whole month continuously it was maybe three or two weeks continuously. I still didn't have my first lucid dream yet. The problem with me isn't that I can't dream, the problem is that I can't realize that I'm dreaming. Everytime I go to bed I convince myself that I'm going to dream but it don't work, and when I manage somehow to realize that I'm dreaming I wake up immediately!.

      So what should I do?

Hey! I would suggest you look at DILD, and at the various methods for it.

More importantly, Reality Checks. This also is a part of DILD. These are things like counting your fingers, holding your breath ect...

As long as you get into the habit of doing them in the waking life, it will transition into your dream!

Pick a method that feels right for you and stick with it. Put in an earnest effort every day. Don't ignore the basics/fundamentals. They are the building blocks and foundation. Have patience and perseverance. Don't let the destination distract you from the journey and lead you astray.

I'd suggest going through all the tutorials and decide on one to start with. Probably DILD to begin with. Don't forget dream recall, awareness, intentions and reality checks.

The short of it is there are no shortcuts. It takes a lot of work and dedication.

LDing takes a lot of practice, it is good to think of it like a sport. It is good to learn about it, but time, effort, and practice cannot be replaced!

Check out my podcasts for LDing in my signature. I talk about attaining lucidity and stability quite a bit.

Well, if you are getting this far, then you basically are lucid dreaming--it's just super short. I have two suggestions for you. The first one is that when you go to bed, have a plan. You need to know exactly what you will do the moment you get lucid. I find that having a goal keeps me in the dream so much longer. It doesn't really matter what that goal is. It could be as simple as looking at your feet and seeing what shoes you are wearing or to touch the closest thing to you and inspect it. Just know what you are going to do and do it.

The second thing I would suggest is that when you wake up, immediately do a reality check. I was just talking to a family member who is learning how to lucid dream, and he has this same problem. Only when he "wakes up" it is only a false awakening. But since he wasn't doing reality checks, he was missing the fact that he was still dreaming. If you can learn to do this, it will give you a second chance to lucid dream.

      Hope that helps.

      1) Patience
      2) Practice
      3) Experience

Take it slow, don't try and dive in head first. Spend some time simply trying to understand your dream states first, what they look like, what they feel like, what feelings or emotions they bring, as these things excite the mind and can be what brings you to wake up. Practice your techniques, you can't walk before you crawl, so it takes time to get used to being in a lucid dream state, and eventually you'll gain the experience necessary to keep things stable. Even experienced lucid dreamers find stability an issue, so don't let it put you off, just keep interested, keep exploring your mind, keep learning they nature of the dream world and eventually you'll lose those overwhelming sensations and be able to remain lucid for longer periods of time. Remember, you're being thrown into a whole different world of consciousness that's so detached from that of waking life, it's natural for you to be thrown off, so it's just a matter of interest, dedication and time before you'll get to grips with how this lucid world works.
