This chart
should give you some perspective of the typical frequency for dedicated lucid dreamers.
It shows the number of lucid dreams that the lucid dreaming researcher
Stephen Laberge had per month over the course of three years when he practiced his so-called "
MILD" technique ("
Mnemonic
Induction of
Lucid
Dreams").
As you can see on the image, he had roughly 4-5 lucid dreams per month during the first year, then slowly started having more and more of them on average.
That's what it tends to look like for most people.
Pay special attention to his number of lucid dreams during months 7 and 8 - month 7 would count as what is usually called a
"dryspell", that is, a long time without any lucid dreams, and on month 8 he suddenly got 10 of them, partly because he was
in the lab at that point and needed to become lucid in order to do research on that later.
There are two important lessons here:
first of all, it is the
average improvement
over a longer period of time that you should focus on, and not worry too much about always having better and better success;
and also,
motivation is extremely important.
In fact, I believe that all the lettered bars represent the months when he was
at the lab, and you can see that those bars are significantly higher than the rest.
