Man, I was super close to lucidity

I hate to start a thread that has been talked about 1,000 times before with false lucids and such, but wow, I was close. I was in a dream and "realized" that I was dreaming. If I was actually lucid I would have rubbed my hands together to increase stability, but of course I wasn't consciously aware so I didn't do that. But here's the part that's never happened to me before.

My mind seemed to realize that this was sort of a "false lucid" and I started repeating the words "clarity now" or something similar in an attempt to make my conscious mind wake up and become aware. I can't even describe it, like my dream self was trying to make my real self become lucid.

Anyway, here's my quick question. The last few days I've been trying to be aware of my surroundings/what I'm doing throughout the day. Last night I repeated the mantra "Tonight, I realize that I'm dreaming." for 30 minutes before bed.

My question is this: Do I just keep doing what I'm doing and I'll break through to real lucidity soon enough, or can I make the mantra more specific like "I realize that I'm dreaming and become consciously aware"

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've never been THAT close to lucidity before.

a mantra should be a little shorter than that. My mantra is "I'm dreaming". I think that you should see this as a sign that whatever you are doing is working, it just might take a little longer to take effect. If where you are going is close to lucidity, then keeping going there. Maybe do it a little more, but make sure not to stress or your dreaming will die.

Thanks, Sensei. Yesterday I felt like I wasn't aware as I wanted to be during the day. I'm not sure if it's my attempts to be aware in the daytime or the autosuggestion, or a combination of both that brought this occurrence on. It was only my second night of doing mantras and I've only been increasing my awareness for a few days. I'm surprised that something like this happened so quickly.

Plus, I'm really excited about lucid dreaming so that may help. I'll try your suggestion of a nice short mantra. You guys at Dreamviews are the best. Congrats on your goal of 1000+ lucids, that's crazy.

Lucidity isn't all-or-nothing; it exists on a spectrum from no awareness to full awareness of the fact that you're dreaming, all the things you can do, and all the goals that you've set. It sounds like what you had was a semi-lucid dream.
