Lightbulb Possible Mindset for Lucid Dreaming

      Hey, dreamers.

So, today, my mind came up with what I think is a great way to become lucid a lot more often. While walking home from school, I was thinking about all of the crazy things that I have written in my Dream Journal and how it's crazy that I've only been lucid 5 times. Then, out of nowhere, the technique occurred to me:

      Dream Journal (DJ) Mindset

Most people go through this cycle when they experience non-lucid dreams:
      1. Dream
      2. Awake
      3. Jot down what happened in dream(s) in Dream Journal

If you Dream Journal often, you too have probably asked yourself once in a while something like,"How on Earth did I not become lucid in that situation?!" So, if you have the mental capability to see how preposterous your situation was and realize that that predicament would only happen in a dream, exactly why is it that you are only able to realize how ridiculous it was only after you are no longer in the situation and while you are Dream Journal-ing after the fact? I'm glad you asked!

Earlier this year, while I was taking my Tuesday 10:00 AM Painting class, I was painting apples. For the apples, I used red, orange, and yellow paint. After the painting class was over, I went about my life like normal. I arrived home at around 7:00 PM like usual. While I was going through my normal routine of washing my hands...it happened. That terrible realization happened. I looked in the bathroom mirror in front of me and saw that I had red, orange, and yellow paint on my goatee for the ENTIRE DAY since 10:00 AM. I had paint on my facial hair for NINE WHOLE HOURS and had NO IDEA the ENTIRE TIME!!!

Imagine as though us living in our dreams is like us living in Waking Life and that us Dream Journal-ing is like us holding a mirror in front of ourselves. We can all go an entire day with paint on our faces. But, it is only until we look at our reflection that we can realize how ridiculous we look. The reason that we never realize how crazy our Dream-situation is only until we start Dream Journal-ing it is because when we are Dream Journal-ing, we are no longer in that situation, but looking at it from the outside. Our Dream Journals act as mirrors. Which brings me to the technique that I came up with:

      Dream Journal (DJ) Mindset

The Dream Journal Mindset is basically what it's name implies. You have the mindset of Dream Journal-ing what's happening to you or what you are observing right now as if you are actually writing it in your Dream Journal. Imagine that you are going to wake up in the next ten seconds and write down the dream that you are in right now. What would you write in your Dream Journal? Whatever you would write is what you should be mentally Dream-Journal-ing to yourself right now. Don't wait until you wake up to write in your Dream Journal and realize that this was a dream. Hold up the mirror to your face NOW and start Dream Journal-ing NOW so that you can realize if this is a dream or not. At any moment, you can wake up and before you know it, you'll be recording what's been happening to you in your Dream Journal. You want to record your lucid dreams in your Dream Journal, anyway, right? So, Dream Journal it NOW!

If anyone (especially the pro Lucid Dreamers) has any questions, comments, or suggestion pertaining to this mindset, I'm more than open to them.
If you were to wake up right now, what would you write in your Dream Journal?

Sounds a lot like all day awareness. Basically if I read this correctly, you're saying "be aware of what you're doing now, don't wait until later and reflect back on the moment when it's too late". Is this what you mean?

Yeah. But, I believe that there is a significant difference between this and ADA. With ADA, (for me, at least) it's more like I'm just trying to notice as many things as I can because I want that habit of noticing things to transfer over to my dreams. You just randomly pay attention to the feeling your fingers on the keyboard or hearing the sound of an airplane go by and then that's it. You don't do anything with that information. But, with DJM, you're keeping in mind that you're about to wake up soon or at any moment and you're not just taking note of things or being aware for being aware's sake. But, you're doing it because you plan on actually writing it in your Dream Journal when you wake up.

      Is that clear?

I like it. I think it sounds like a great mindset to help get into the moment of being while awake. I really like to pretend that I'm in a dream sometimes while I'm awake and I've noticed that I do pay a lot more attention to details and I also tend to have a much greater appreciation for the beauty and magnificence of the world around me. Doing that also helps me to induce lucid dreams more frequently. So yea, I think your idea sounds great!

I look forward to seeing how it works for you.

I just started a new experiment this morning. When I do a reality check I journal it in a separate journal, not my dream journal. I write about my location, what's going on, and how I was able to prove that I wasn't dreaming. Maybe in a couple of weeks of doing this every day it will help.

Hey, dreamers. Just letting you know that after my 3rd day of having this mindset, I had a vivd, controlled and an hour long lucid dream.
If you were to wake up right now, what would you write in your Dream Journal?

I've been trying this to along with journaling reality checks. I had a lucid that broke my dry spell. It was short but encouraging. I will keep it up. Great idea!

It sounds like a creative idea to develop attention and memory. Congratulations !

Check your memory, did any suprising event happpen ? does the present make sense ? visualize what you will do when lucid, and how. Reality check as reminder of your intention to lucid dream tonight. Sleep as good as you can; when going to sleep, relax and invite whatever comes with curiosity. Grab your dream journal immediately as you awake and write everything you can recall (if only when you wake up for good). Keep calm, positive and persistent, and don't forget to have fun along the way
