Readability aside, it sounds like you're having trouble with WILD. Like ThreeCat said, when WILDing, you don't want to focus too much on hypnogogic imagery, as that will just keep you awake. Just acknowledge that it is there, but don't let it distract you.
Another thing that might help is performing a WBTB - basically setting an alarm and waking up 4-6 hours after falling asleep, staying up for some amount of time, and going back to sleep while attempting WILD or some other technique. This works because dreams primarily occur during REM sleep. If you're attempting to WILD when you first go to sleep (which it sounds like you're doing), it's unlikely you'll be able to transition into a dream since there isn't much REM during the early portions of your sleep. However, there's typically more REM sleep later in the night, after you've slept for 4-6 hours or so, so you're more likely to pull off a WILD then as opposed to at the beginning of the night.
