SSILD. I don't even do reality checks religiously. Maybe once or twice these but everyone is different.

After 20 years of Lucid dreaming I have found the combination that works best for me. First of all I do reality checks all the time, but I do them for things that grab my attention like nice cars or an attractive person of the opposite sex. I was never good at finding personal dreamsigns . I then use the WBTB method. I get up at 4:30 AM, take 8m of Galantamine (sometimes combine it with Choline, Alpha GPC or Mucuna Pruriens). I then stay awake for half an hour focusing on my dream signs. For example I may read a car magazine or look at cars on the net. I then go back to bed and incubate a dream of my topic. To do this I daydream of my topic and imagine myself becoming lucid. I then repeat over and over "I'm dreaming". Sometimes I will enter a WILD while doing this but most of the time I simply have a DILD where I see my dreamsign and just become lucid. I don't even to a reality check in the dream anymore.

For this to be successful, the incubation topic must be something that you are also passionate about because it will trigger an emotional response as well, and that help quite a bit at increasing awareness

      Anyway, ,my 2 Cents

Mine is definitely DILD/SAT. I sometimes pop in a WILD if I am upto it and always blend some MILD in there as well.

I am terrible at explaining techniques and I would link you a guide by Puffin but I am on mobile with flucterating 4G.

If you Google 'Puffin's SAT guide dreamviews' it should be the first option to appear. It is a great guide!

Yes, everyone is different, Clidu, which is exactly why you should probably be patient and try all the techniques until you find what works for you... just because something is popular does not mean it is right for you.

Also, in the end it isn't the techniques that matter at all, but your mindset. If you are fully prepared to be lucid, then you will likely have LD's, and your choice of technique will be a matter of convenience rather than necessity (i.e., if you don't have time to attempt WILD's, you might choose to do MILD so as to induce a DILD during regular sleep).

If I were answering your OP, I would suggest that you get the fundamentals down, and then simply use whatever technique is handy.

I agree here. State of mind/motivation is probably the most important thing. If I'm not motivated to have a lucid dream I will not have one, period, no matter how many RCs I do or even if I try WBTD. During those times I just take a break, which is also a good thing to do now and then.

I just read the SAT technique and I like it. I have to agree that RCs on their own don't really trigger lucid dreams that often. My method consists of picking a few things that get my attention and that I will see everyday, so when I see these things, I stop, ask myself if I am dreaming and then test my state. Even then, I don't always catch them in the dream world, which is why I incubate the topic during a mid sleep awakening. I find that I can easily incubate a topic while falling asleep and because I am motivated for lucid dreaming and I repeat to myself "I'm dreaming" , I put myself in a state of mind that recognizes the realty check item immediately. But on its own this RC method of mine is less effective. I think I will try the SAT method in addition to my regular RCs and see how it works. This way I may have lucid dreams during the week instead of only on weekends.

WBTB combined with MILD and 8 mg of galantamine works for me.

I've been using Galantamine once a week for a few years now and I have had no side effects whatsoever. I stick to once a week as to be become desensitized to it. I find that it helps greatly when my motivation is lower and I need something to give me a boost to jump into lucidity.

When I was in my prime in was a combination of DILD, RCs, and recording my dreams. Recording my dreams helped me dream more vividly.

It very much depends on a few things:

      - Your level of experience
      - The length and quality of your nightly sleep
      - How often you are able to practice techniques

If you're a beginner and you get at least 7 hours of sleep a night, I suggest MILD. Wake up after 6 hours of sleep (not 6 hours in bed, there's a difference - you want to hit that REM period, so if it takes 30 minutes to fall asleep, add 35-40 minutes to your alarm just to be safe) and repeat your chosen mantra (my mantra of choice since 2010/11 has been "I will be lucid in my next dream" but choose one that feels right to you) for 1-2 minutes, then go back to sleep. It also helps to imagine and visualise your dream beforehand but sometimes you'll be too tired so just repeating the mantra briefly is enough.

If you're a beginner who gets less sleep than that, I suggest finding the next closest REM period (i.e. ~4 hours 30 if you can't do 6, 3 hours if you can't do 4.30, and 90 minutes if you can't do 3 hours) or chaining naps by taking a 2 hour period in the middle of the day and setting alarms to wake you every 10 minutes. (keep going through the alarms until you wake up from a dream - that means you're in REM) then perform the mantra and go back to sleep.

Once you've had your first lucid dream and know what it is like, then it really depends how much time you want to dedicate to lucid dreaming. If you're not able to practice often, or are limited on time, I suggest just using MILD whenever you're able (you can also use it during the night if you wake up in the middle of a dream).

If you're willing to dedicate some time each day to lucid dreaming, I suggest starting a dream journal if you haven't already, and also performing regular reality checks - the hit rate for these is typically smaller than other methods like MILD etc but the point is that when you do hit and succeed in getting lucid, you're doing it during the other dreams that would normally have been non-lucid dreams. So you can combine this with MILD to get way more lucid dreams than you would have with MILD alone.

If you have some extra time and patience on top of that, then that's when I suggest learning the likes of WILD, FILD, and other direct techniques. With these techniques, if you hit an REM period, and do everything right, it's almost a 100% success rate. The trouble with these methods is more the time it takes to learn them, since it's often very hard to describe how to do these in a way that the other person is then able to replicate 100%. I hear about it all the time, people thinking you need to enter sleep paralysis for WILD (completely wrong!), people violently wiggling their fingers like their hand is having a seizure for FILD, etc.

Once you have some experience under your belt, then I find that the best technique for me personally these days is none of the above, it's simply: Meditation. I discovered it by accident. I've been meditating daily since early 2015, and a few months ago I started being more consistent in the length of my meditation, and moving it to before bed. When I started doing this, I noticed that all my dreams were lucid all of a sudden, and within a week I had a night where I had 11 lucid dreams in one night - then a couple of weeks later, 13 in one night! It was pretty crazy. I wasn't performing any techniques whatsoever during this time, just meditating for 20-30+ minutes every night around 1-2 hours before going to bed.

Personally I think everyone should be meditating daily - beginner or advanced, since meditation has so many important benefits outside of lucid dreaming.. but that said, for purely lucid dreaming benefits, I've noticed that beginners seem to get less from it - while more experienced lucid dreamers seem to find it gives them a crazy amount of LDs.

      So in summary:
      • WILD and nightly meditation have the highest % success rate for me, but require some experience
      • MILD is the hardest technique to mess up (about the only thing you can do wrong is set your alarm in such a way that you don't wake up in REM) and so the best choice for a beginner
      • RCs etc are a good addition to the above

WBTB/WILD and DEILD (although DEILD is technically a WILD), without a doubt. My results with MILD were always pathetically low when talking about it actually getting me lucid, although the ability to get myself to wake up at a fairly specific time in the middle of the night using a mantra helps with WBTB so I won't say all aspects involved are useless for me. DILD has always been based on luck for me. There's never any rhyme or reason for my getting one when I do. There's maybe been two I've had where something that happened in a dream made me question reality well enough to get me to realize I was dreaming. The rest of the time I somehow just acquire the knowledge seemingly out of nowhere, feeling like I'm starting to come to out of a semi-delirious state and realizing that feeling off in this way means dream. That, and my DILDs rarely last more than 2-5 minutes, with like one lasting 10 minutes. Thankfully when they happen for only that short of a time, I usually wake up in REM Atonia and just hold still and think about the dream I was just in and I wind up in a new, much more vivid and longer lasting DEILD. WBTB/WILD took the longest to learn anything about, but has undoubtedly been what's gotten me the most success and the longest lasting, most vivid lucid dreams bar none.

First of all thanks for such an interesting pesponse.I was so happy at the end when you mentioned about meditation.
Iv been on and off lucid dreaming since iv been on this site so about 3 years maybe.Iv read in depth alot of different techniques and read different interesting books etc but ofcourse techniques suchs as wild are good but very time consuming and it takes me a while to fall to sleep and.even longer if im purposly trying to remain conciously aware.
The past week iv been meditating and so far from books and internet iv read that meditation basically goes hand in hand with lucid dreaming.
Apart from meditating i also try to be mindfull through out my day which i can do but it is hard!
My question is....is there any specific type of meditation for lucid dreaming.....i basically rely on meditating for about 30mins.....i focus 15mins on just my breath and then maybe 15mins on how my body is feeling.
      Thanks again =)

If you've been doing it for 20 years, don't you get to a point were it's so natural you don't need any supplements?

Unfortunately I'm not what you call a natural at it, my mind always seems to be fighting it. It took me forever to have my first lucid dream in 1997. After a few years of trying various techniques I settled on the WBTB method with visualization upon returning to bed. I would become Lucid about 75% of the time but many of those dreams were not strong lucid dreams. I tried many additional techniques to extend the dream and sometimes I got dreams that were 15 to 20 minutes, but most of the time they only lasted a few minutes. In 2014 I came across Galantamine and it was a game changer. I found that I now become lucid almost 100% of the time when I do WBTB and the dreams are more stable and longer. I only do this once a week on weekends and it has been working great for me.
