      Easy WILD Induction Technique [VIDEO]

      Hi everyone,

It's video time again, this time exploring a really simple but surprisingly effective WILD induction technique, namely the Impossible Movement Practice (or IMP for short). It's a technique I included in my book, Are You Dreaming?, but I thought it'd also be nice to share it on YouTube.

This is a technique I've used nightly for many years, with a fair amount of success. Its simplicity means that it's a nice technique for spontaneous use - when the conditions are right.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support of my videos, they take more time and effort to put together than you'd expect, and your support is really helping to keep me motivated.

Here's the video, I hope some of you find it useful...

The first lucid dream I had was imagining I was holding my phone in my hand (when I knew it was elsewhere). It's very bizarre to suddenly feel a real sensation that you know is impossible. Great video, thanks .

doesn't calling it easy smack of the incredulity of the claims many make on line... Lucid before you can fall asleep... Master lucidity in under a milisecond... only 9.99

I just watched one of your other videos where you say to watch out for such claims he he

Ok now I'll go watch the video, maybe it'll be so easy I get lucid before it ends

I commented on your youtube channel, Daniel. This is actually what I do every time I WILD. I don't always get the movement, but when I do... So much fun!
It indeed is an easy way for a WILDer.

      LOL

Criticizing before watching? Where do you get the 9.99 from? Bad post, cooley.

While I was still getting the hang of WILDing I would do something similar. I would try and push my head through my pillow and eventually I would be able to swim into my bed. Obviously I was in a dream at that point but I always found myself stuck in the weird viciousness of my bed and would wake up trying to swim into a dream. I will have to try this again but instead I will just get out of bed.

      @CloudOFmichael - Thanks!

@cooleymd - I can see what you're saying, but I think once you watch the video that you'll see it really is one of the easiest/simplest WILD techniques to perform.

@gab - Yeah it's an amazing feeling isn't it? I still get a huge rush each time.

@Patience108 - I'm glad you picked up on that, I thought it made the whole thing a little more fun - also, I think we've all had quite enough of the techniques ending in ILD phase!

      @MadMonkey - It's definitely my go-to spontaneous WILD technique.

@Everyone - Are there any topics you'd like me to cover in future videos? I'm always very much open to suggestion and I'd prefer if the channel reflected the community.

Hi Daniel, thanks again for your videos. I really like the format. As regards the IMP technique itself, I haven't had much success with it. I think maybe I'm not patient enough perhaps. The few WILDs I have managed have usually taken quite a long time. My theory is that either I wake at the end of the current REM cycle, or the very act of waking resets the dream cycle so that the next REM period is about an hour away. Thanks for reminding need if it though, I'm having another go.

Sorry to chime in, Daniel, but I love HH and transition sensations dearly. One of my favorite topics, haha.

After we wake up, we always go through other sleep stages before we hit REM. But the longer we sleep prior to this, the shorter the stages before the REM are. And if we sleep at least 4.5 hrs (but longer is even better), then the falling asleep stage before REM is very short.

Two possible tips I can think of about your issue with IMP.

      1. If I'm not mistaken, these impossible movements happen only when we are very close to falling asleep, or even already asleep.

      2. It can be tricky to realize when we are already asleep. If we keep awareness through the whole process, then we are still thinking clearly, maybe even about our day or what to cook for dinner. There is not many clues that tell us we are already asleep. These movements, and some other HH can give us a clue. Except they don't always happen.

Best thing I would recommend is to start doing these movements pretty much as soon as you start to WILD. You may be surprised how soon they may happen. When you would swear that you are still awake.

Thanks gab. I don't want to add any negative schema, but it really does seem for me that there is usually a reasonably long period of non-REM prior to each REM, even at the end of the night. I'm basing that on many nights of recordings using my Zeo headband. I found some consistency where I would wake about every 90 minutes at the end of REM, and then the Zeo would show about an hour before the next one. That seems to match my few attempts at WILD that were successful, where after a WBTB I found it took about an hour to work.
I will try exploring it again though.

Yea It was just the word "EASY" I was poking fun at

To para-quote another experienced LDer around here either "Everything in LD is Easy, and Nothing in LD is Easy" or was it "Everything in LD is Easy and Everything in LD is Hard"

I did watch the video after the post (obvioulsy I had just come from viewing the one where you said to be weary of click bate at best / mis-information at worst).

As to the easyness of the method, I suppose I would approach it like this, you say one of the important things is
firstly to wake after 5Hrs or so of sleep (elsewhere and often you state that it is best to wake naturally)
secondly you say that it is best to do immediately after waking

So in general being rested and wake back to bed are standard fare of good night practice,
but lets take the method to the limit and say your best chance is if you wake after every cycle and often know you're waking from a dream.

How many people have the skill of waking from every cyle, cooleymd raises hand...
How many people often note the exact transition from dream end to waking, cooleymd raises hand...

How easy were these skills to aquire? For me I use various suplements, sleep disruption, intention setting, drinking of fluids
as for noting the transition, it is ceratianly dead easy coming out of the void upon failure to stabilize in LD, otherwise it is a hard won skill
I call it falling awake, in which I am thinking I am still trying to fall asleep and then note patterns in my eyes, and then think wait I'M FALLING AWAKE, and my dream is recovered if I do wake

What percent of LDers do I think share these skills in abundance... some but not many

as the para-quote indicates not much is EASY in LD.

so is this method easy if you have awoken after 5+ hours naturally, know you have just awoken from a dream, and haven't moved... etc etc etc? Maybe
but to aquire the skills for such a thing really isn't very easy at all.

Hi Daniel, ive read your book and like your posts. You impossible movement techniques sounds very similar to Michael Radugas ' hand wiggling' and also echoes familiarity with the popular FILD technique. I like to practise DEILD whereby using an alarm I am woken from a dream and then keeping still will perform IMP to enter a dream - ive had success with this. The main criteria for this working is is the alarm sounds during REM

Since the gist of your impossible movement technique is the visualization of nonphysical movement to draw your attention from the physical, wouldn't any movement visualized be just as effective? Why choose impossible movements? Is there a psychological component that makes impossible movements better for the technique? thanks

I think it adds an extra layer of confirmation. If you can move your hand in a motion you normally can, then you may miss the realization that you are dreaming. But if you bend your legs into the bed, that should raise some flags, haha.

I go for trying to do movement pretty much from the moment I lay down for a WILD. For me, best one is trying to stand up or roll out of the bed. Because once I stand up, I realize I'm dreaming. If I already wasn't sure.

Tried this like 17 times last night each time I woke up. I didn't focus enough on the movement so I just fell asleep each time. HOWEVER!! The very last time I tried it, a dream started to form (the very beginning stages where you just start to imagine random things), and I said to myself that I didn't want a dream to start there. So I thought it would be cool to dream by a river. I just pictured myself by a river and the dream started to take shape there. THEN as I was swinging my arm I noticed I was feeling the water and the rocks of the river.

Unfortunately this happened very late in the morning at the time I normally wake up so it just ended, but it's still a huge success!

Coolest technique I've tried since being on DV!
