      Building worlds/familular places in dreams

One thing I am interested in doing is constructing worlds. By worlds I mean, familular places that I can visit over the span of multiple dreams that mantaing the same properties (more or less). For example, in RL I would like to own a beach house but I dont have the means and most likely will never to actually do so. But, perhaps I can have my own private beach inside of my dreams. That is, some beach that is relatively consistent in its nature, a beach that stays pretty much the same from one dream to the next.

The challanges in doing so that I see are 1)Developing structure of world 2)Filling in details of the world 3) Inhabiting the world.

Now the first challange in having my beach house would be to envision the big picture details, or the structure of the world. I have envisioned a secluded gravely trail nestled between large trees that leads to a grassy hill that over looks my beach. From the hill I see a horeshoe shaped cove with large cliffs towering over and enscapsulating the beach. On the beach I see a small wooden cabin nestled safely away from the tides. There is trail with wooden steps that leads down to this cabin from the grassy hill.

At this point I have the general shape of the world covered. The next task is to further enumerate the details of the world. Obviously in the dream I'd imagine lots of extra detail would be added and some of what I describe would not, but it seems to me important to at least define certain hallmarks. I envision
The sun as distant dark orange half circle shape just above the horizon. Clouds roll lazily along. The air is warm and a gentle breeze rolls through making the grass wave. Standing infront of the cabin looking towards the ocean I see the sand from position gently slope downward towards the water. Turning towards the cabin, I see a small sign infront of the cabin with my name on it. The cabin is made of deep dark brown wood and green triangular roof covers the top. Etc etc.

Finally, and this might be the most difficult part, comes actually inhabiting the world once incide of a LD. I think ther are various ways to go about this. Some may be able to just start imagining the place and perhaps the dream will shape. For me, I find the idea of casting a spell that creates one of those spiraly swirling teleporation portals appealing. Upon entering the portal I would of course be dropepd off somewehre at the foot of my road. Having a clear idea of the destination, and the details that compose the destination seem of utmost importance for a succesfull teleportation.

The idea of world building is very appealing to me. To me, having worlds in my dreams would make dreams feel less chaotic. It would be like having a sort of base camp or safe place that I could use to venture out into other strange areas of the dream world. Or perhaps, just a place to relax at.

I should note I have never actually done any of this but was just attempting to theorize about how I would go about it if I were to do it. If anyone has experience in this field I would love to hear your thoughts/techniques for this type of thing.

If you put energy into worrying about things that you can't control then you won't have energy for things that you can

It's good that you're thinking of all the base details, especially for incubation purposes, but I think it would also be cool to just let the dream generate most of it for you. Then, it's more of an exploration thing and you can discover for yourself what the beach place looks like. Which, now that I think about it, might be exactly the opposite of what you're trying to do, since you said you're interested in constructing "familiar" dream landscapes (assuming you are talking about the process of constructing). Of course, once you make the location or let the dream make the location for you, you can intend on it as being a persistent location and return to it in a different dream by teleporting there. (Also, I like your idea of making a portal with a spell! I've never thought of that.)

The idea of consistent dream locations is super interesting and is something I've been wanting to try, too. A few weeks ago, I had a lucid dream in which I drew a portal and then walked through it into this meadow area. There was grass going forward as far as I could see, but it sloped down, so I could see more stuff over the hill, by the horizon. There was a small village there. I've been planning on returning to that place in a future dream and exploring it. So I have my subconscious to thank for a potential persistent place

Good luck with your beach place! You have really good ideas so far.

*Original reply accidentalyl deleted sorry if you got a bunch of notifications, here is a recap
      - World building relys most heavily on most of the details of the dream to be generated for you
      - I think it would be impossible for one to build a world exactly matching one's specification for two reasons
      A) Its damn near impossible to come up with every detail. It would take me at least 30,000 pages to even describe the trail leading up to beach! Probably it is impossible, you would get into some sort of infinite recursion if you even tried to describe a single tree along the trail. There are so many subworlds contained within that tree. There's the bugs living inside of it. Birds nesting there. The bark on the tree is a strange type of fractal lines etc etc. Short of having the mind of a god I dont see how one could do it.
      B) Suppose for a minute you even could do it, your next problem would be execution, that is having the dream control neccessary to see that your world exactly matched your description nothing added nothing lacking. I believe people can really develop and fine tune dream control but there are certain limits.

I think the idea behind world building is to have some pre planning and kind of sketch out what you want the dream to be similar to and let the subconcious take care of the final draft.

In response to your experience in the meadow, I think that is a really great way to do world building. Let randomness (if it is even random) take over and walk through the portal and see what strange place you end up.

Yeah, I'm not disputing anything you said about laying the basis for a preplanned dream environment. I totally agree that there's no way we could plan out every tiny detail beforehand. The fact that we can't do that is what makes lucid dreaming, and dreaming in general, so exciting... It's an adventure where you don't know what's going to happen next... like a good book.

Have you read other threads here about persistent realms (Sensei, Hyu)? They are such interesting reads. And inspiring!

Persistent realms and other lucid dreaming techniques I use. - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

I think this is what your are referring to correct? Super interesting read. Thanks for the ref. The idea that the realm you inhabbit has laws separate than normal dream world is very exciting as you get to discover those. See originally I was looking for a post like this but didn't know what they called it. Going to have to try this :_)

I'm interested in this topic as well - and that Persistent realms link was a great read! I'm also going to give it a try
