      My dreams have completely changed

So, before I was dreaming as I have for many years. Dreams were coming one after the other. Sometimes I would wake up, record them and write them down. Then I had a couple of very vivid sex dreams, but that is another story.

The next night, eveything changed. I dream, but dreams are not coherent at all, they are mix of different pictures that have no plot. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I have a bunch of unrelated memories, so I cannot write a word about it. That has been happening for two days now. This morning, I have entered this in my DJ: "I have dreamed about some dog." In reality, I have images of dogs (they were definitely the main part of the dream), yellow ball, egg, eye that has popped out of it's socket (idk dog or human) and so on. I don't know how to place those images in the context of the dream.

Has anyone experienced this? It is really strange...

I experienced this too. There's a certain point in my dream journal where all the dreams became pretty incoherent and I started using the word Stupid in a lot of the titles (Stupid Spy School etc) because I was acting stupid in all the dreams, as if something was really wrong with my brain. Since then it's gotten somewhat better but the dreams don't seem to be back up fully to as coherent and intelligent as they used to be, but they have improved somewhat by stages.

I read somewhere that it means you aren't taking an active enough part in your own life, that you're just coasting by and letting things happen however they will, maybe letting other people control what you do.

I believe there are other possibilities as well...

It could be a physical change in brain chemistry. Maybe your diet has become deficient in some essential nutrient or maybe you've become mentally unbalanced in some way. Or even some kind of traumatic brain injury - maybe you were struck on the head at some point and it "addled your wits"as they used to say.

It's possible you're in denial about something you've done or that happened to you and that you don't want to face. Denial is a complex and powerful mechanism that filters all your thoughts so you don't have to encounter whatever it is you're afraid of, and it means your thinking process is no longer transparent and clear like it used to be - all the thoughts are now being filtered and I can see where that would cause dreams to be of a lower quality.

Or it could be something physically wrong in your body that's taking up a lot of resources that would otherwise be able to get to the brain. Some kind of injury or illness.

Well, this is all pretty generic and pretty obvious. But it's good to at least lay out all the cards on the table and survey what the possibilities are. I hope both our dreams improve.

One possible culprit in my case that I need to check on - I wonder if this happened after i started messing with lucid dreaming supplements? Need to check the DJ to find out. Since then I've read that Piracetam and its derivatives (the Racetams) cause a mental fuzziness and stupidity for some people.

Ok found it , and all the stupid dreams actually happened before I started using supps. Looking through my DJ I see I've had ups and downs since then - at times my dreams come back up to full intelligence and coherence, and at times they get messed up and incoherent for a while. Right now they're pretty short, stupid and incoherent and like you said - they're so weird and multi-layered with incomprehensible stuff going on that I don't even have any idea how to write them down.

Whew!! Good to know it wasn't because of the supplements and that it wasn't a permanent condition!

Hey, thank you so much for your lenghty answer I feel more at ease to know that other experience similar things. I think dreams will never stop surprising us... they constantly change and it is very difficult to find the cause of those changes...
