The trick is to sleep for 8 hours.

Make sure none of that 8 hours of sleep goes into morningtime. You want to make sure that 8 hours of sleep will be 8 hours of pure darkness in front of your eyes.

Whats good for a dream is a low, repeating, pattern sound in the background like a fan or loud clock.

Or turn your T.V. to the tv guide channle with the music.
turn the T.V. to low volume and adjust the brightness to 0 so the T.V. is constantly playing a soft tune of music that you can subconsciously hear but its not too loud to awake you.

You adjust the brightness of the T.V. to 0 so the light from the T.V. doesnt wake you up

no, it's not strange. actually, i think a majority of people think that. but the truth is you dream every night. everyone does. you just don't remember them.

if you want to work on remembering your dreams, pretty much every website on lucid dreaming will tell you how to work on dream recall. i can post links to some good sites if you'd like?
