My definition would be that meditation is a method of relaxation. You get comfortable and kind of go into this zone where you're almost sleeping but not quite. You're still aware of your body and everything around you. Your breathing regulates as though you were asleep and your mind is actively not thinking of anything important or stressful.

      That help at all?

Meditation is good way to recharge your energy after using it all. Sleep recharges your energy, meditation is a sleep substitute.

I can't believe its not butter did to butter what Meditation does to sleep.

Meditation is a means of communicating with the self, or universal consciousness. A truer form of meditation involves releasing the Kundalini and moving this energy upwards through the spine, effectively opening up each of the seven chakras and, in essence, ensuring that they remain healthy and "in tune". What you ultimately do is open up a line of communication which is neither diluted or distorted.

Wouldent reccomend going days without sleep, even with meditation. There are serious side effects.

Meditation can be done in many ways, usualy it has to do with focusing the mind on one point or on nothing... wow that helped alot... eheh sorry I dunt know how to explain it, somebody else should be able to though

Meditating is a lot like self-hypnosis. Some people use steps to get into a hypnotic or meditative trance. Once you figure it out, though, you can just put yourself down into such a trance.

Basically, all you do is spend some time pushing out distracting thoughts until you aren't thinking about anything at all. It sounds paradoxal, but you can do it. Once you realize you've done it you're not doing it anymore

Sometimes white noise helps, like static on a radio, or a metronome. Yoga will teach you to focus on your breath, and only your breath, in and out deep. Soon you find yourself sleepy but not falling asleep (hopefully, although this can happen). When you get to the point of being able to not think of anything for more than a few seconds, you are in a trance.

Go one step further for hypnosis and tell yourself things like...

I don't want cigarrettes, I want to work harder at schoolwork, etc.

That's my take on what I've learned of meditation.
