      Dreaming While In A Coma

I was just wondering about the effects of REM sleep in relation toward one being in a coma from some form of head injury? I remember reading this statement a young lady had written about awaking from a coma and remembering nothing but Nightmares and she said she couldn't wake herself up because she was in a coma. That made me think about something very interesting. If someone is in a coma are the brain patterns pretty much the same as someone Lucid Dreaming? There must be a time when REM periods are extended to a great degree because of an unfortunate state as such.

I wish Shared dreaming could be less complicated and more diversed, because then If someone is in a coma then someone else could just hack into that person dreams and help them awaken. What do you guys think about it. Im going to do some form of research this weekend on it and see what kind of information I can gather on in reference to dreams from comas. If you guys know something in relation to it I would really love to hear about it. Thanks =)

First of all... 'THE CELL' is a freaky, disturbing movie.

Regarding comas...i wonder if an individual who is in a coma would realize that they are dreaming after a certain period of....days....months...because of all that time in the dream world...wow...that must be wonderful in a way. (not in all though)

      NO!
You cna't dream in a coma period.

The dictionary states that a coma is a sleep like state in which one does not awake. All coma doctors no this is incorrect.

During sleep your mind is moving all around and shit. *shakes head* that doesnt happen during a coma. Your brain has amazingly low activity.
As a ocma patient get better he's able to be aware of his existance, but not have a dream.

Yeah...i guess the real check would be to see if the patients eyes moved rapidly during REM...

Just because some may not experience REM in comas does not mean they cannot dream. There are stories out there which indicates dreams are common among individuals in commas. Anyway even if they did not experience REM periods, studies show that people can also have dreams in Non-REM states. (LNW) Low Neuro Waves or low activity as you call it are a significant indication of not only rest periods but dreams. The only time brain activity sparks sporadically is when someone Lucid dreams giving the conscious mind the ability to become alert. So even in normal dream states your mind has this low brain activity.

Once again does anyone else have any useful information?

I might in fact have a possibilty to find out first hand. About dreaming, not Lucid dreaming. ( I don't believe she has ever been introduced to LD's)

Christmas day my good friends mother had an anurism. She went into a coma after a couple brief stents of conciousness. However she has fortunatley regained her conciousness after sevaral months of being in a coma.
Do to the delicate nature of her condition I do not feel comfortable drilling her with dream question just yet. I soon will feel it will be appropriate to ask her a couple qustions regarding dreams.
      I will keep you posted..

Dreaming in a coma? Perhaps. However, I can safely tell you a woman in a coma for 60 years (from 10 to 70), had no dreams whatsoever.

I belive that you cannot experience "physical" dream in the state of coma.
Your brain uses a lot of energy while dreaming, and I doubt people could survive that loss of energy while in coma...

However it may be possible to experience some kind of "spirit based" dreams and stuff.. I will not go into details belive what you belive
