      Communicating with the subconscious mind

Im sorry if this has already been discussed but I was just wondering if while having an LD, does talking to a dream character mean you are having a direct conversation with your subconscious mind. If this is the case would it not be possible to influence your subconscious as with self hypnosis. Does anyone have experience with asking there subconscious questions while having an LD?

Yes it is very possible, though I have only done it by writing letters and putting them in the fire in my dreams, but thats just me. I usually do it to set myself goals for the next day. It tends to work.

cool, im wondering if self help is possible through LD. Im the same way that hypnosis promises to help with things like habits and phobias by giveing suggestions to the subconcious mind, could these same effects be acheived through LD.

Also, in future, if you make a mistake in a post, just hit the edit boutton and change it instead of posting it again. Sorry to nag.

      Possible

      Self help, Possible?</span>

That is one great reason for Lucid dreams. I myself primarly use Lds to overcome hurtles & to talk to dream characters. It does not necissarily have to be a "character" either. Your dream scene is a manifestation of your subsoncious in which can give you insight to things greater than your waking mind could imagine.

I believe someday that we can learn to breach this gap through our waking state. It stands to reason if we can communicate to our subconcious via our concious through Lds or meditation then the other way around would seem plausable too.

I just learned that the connection between our left hemisphere and our right hemisphere of the brain are made through neuronal bridges called commissures.
I wonder what conects the concious to the subconcious

I often wonder the same thing. I think that through LD you help to close that gap between the concious to the subconcious. But that is just me.

Forgive me if Im talking about things i dont understand, but I dont think the subconscious is a physical thing. I always thought it referred to the memories or feelings that we can't access while awake. Thus, utilising the subconscious would use the same connections between brain cells as normal conscious activity.

Yes that is a good pointLewisM.

I don't think anyone yet understands the subconcious. Even though it is not a physical thing we know it exists. Like time. And since it is there it seems possible, even if for a fleeting moment that you could capture it for awhile.

Self help is completely possible, as evidenced by confronting nightmares in lucid dreams - the cause of the nightmare is dealt with. I've used this on many occasions.
I've also spoken to my subconscious as a dream character, but I advise being careful with what you say
Then again, the same thing applies to hypnosis - think about what you're saying before blurting it out

As for the subconscious/conscious mind connection - I believe the subconscious to be a layered thing.
And I believe it to reside in the lower areas of our brain - medulla, thalamus, etc
The more 'primitive' areas (in the evolutionary sense)
The cortex (big folded bit on top) is our consciousness

What gives you this idea? Any reason in particular?

Well it's already common knowledge that the cortex is the conscious mind.
Your subconscious is simply a field of thoughts, that grows from the suggestions you plant in it. Most importantly - it controls those things in your body that you don't have to consciously think about ... breathing, heart beat, hormone release.
All those things are controlled / released in the lower areas of the brain, that are not conscious

Also - I've learned since a child how to give myself a adrenaline rush .. which is signalled from the pituitary gland - and controlled by the thalamus area (not conscious)
It takes a strange sort of concentration, and feels similar to what I do when I attempt to control subconscious thoughts (lucid dream control + telekinesis)
Thus I feel I'm interacting with my subconscious on a level that most people haven't tried to develop
      It mades sense really, IMO

Just putting 2+2 together - A bunch of assumptions perhaps, but that's what I believe for the moment
