Can I get into the hypnagogic state at will?

Hello I'm a newbie to lucid dreaming and I've been doing the WILD technique. I'm able to do it in the morning once the REM cycles prolong.

I'm just wondering if it is possible to get into this trance at will? I just wish I could lucid dream whenever I want and not have to wait at a certain time. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I believe the hypnagogic state and lucid dreaming at two different things. I used to be able to go into hypnagogic states and it was pretty cool. I would see the most amazing visual patterns and scenes and sometimes control them. But I was clearly awake, it was very different from lucid dreaming. But from what I have heard it can help you go into lucid states like with the WILD technique. Not sure if that helps.

I don't think this would help you go hypno while sitting in class, but I've found that meditating before bed helps me become aware of the hypnogogic state.

Hypnogogic state is like a pre dream. It stops being hypnogogic the moment you acquire a dream body. With practice, you can speed up the acquisition of the dream body and jump right into lucid dreaming. Although in my experience, that creates stability issues. I often force myself to ignore lucidity in that early stage until things stabilize, and many times forget to go back to lucidity.

Maybe you could try going into sleep paralysis during the day.... which may lead to a hypnogogic state.
