New technique? Fall asleep in an unfamiliar place

I hadn't had a lucid dream in a while, but I just took a 40 minute nap in my lab at my university and it felt like half of that time was spent having a series of very vivid lucid dreams.

I do not think this is a coincidence. I think that my brain was more active than normal, like it hadn't completely gone asleep. This could be a defense mechanism. If you are in an unknown area, or a place you haven't slept before, your brain could keep your brain active enough to process signals (like sound) from the outside world. This could keep you alive if there was a predator near your camp or something.

I know it isn't feasible in the long run, but I think you should give it a shot if you have the means to try it. These were some of the most vivid lucid dreams I've had.

      Let me know your thoughts.

I've not thought about this in a long time. But I have had experience which says you're right there.

I can't remember my experiences exactly, it was too long ago now and I never recorded it. But I remember seeing so clearly that my mind was active in a different way when in an unfamiliar place. Lucidity came naturally.

Heightened awareness I guess as a defense mechanism.

Your theory is correct. And it has been tested... We sleep less heavily the first night in a new place. Many people also find that they LD a lot when they nap during the day, so it could be that...
Half of the time we're gone and we don't know where...

Yes I have only had around 11 LD’s but when I sleep in my brothers room (when he isn’t Home) I get very vived and amazing dreams and out the 11 I’ve had 5 of them were in my brothers room. Maybe when he moves out I’ll start sleeping in their more often.

But as soon as it becomes familiar it won't work anymore...

Maybe sleeping bag, and switch rooms and corner of rooms each night? Would be interesting to try. (if you don't mind sleeping bags)

Another possibility (less likely to work): Having VR headset on before bed, and looking around at foreign world and pretending it's the real environment. (then taking it off with your eyes kept closed)

I once slept in a tent out in the forest and had one of the most vivid lucid dreams I ever had.
