Can't recall a single dream anymore

I'll start out by saying that I just got really interested in lucid dreaming about a week ago, but before I even knew about lucid dreaming I've had lucid dreams when I was younger and it seemed to be pretty easy to have lucid dreams when I was younger but now that I'm older I have a big problem with lucid dreaming. I can't remember ANY of my dreams! At all! This is VERY frustrating for me because when I was little I used to remember about 1 dream per night and I would have about 1 lucid a week if I got my mind-set right before I dozed off. Now I'm older and for some reason I can't remember a single damn dream I have. (The last dream I recalled was more than a year ago) For the past week I've kept a DJ next to my bed, which is still empty of course because I can't remember anything... I really don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. Every night I chant to myself as I'm falling asleep that I'm going to have a dream and I'm going to remember it when I wake up so I can write it down, I POUND this into my head for about 20-30 minutes, so much in-fact that I begin repeating it over and over in my head without even realizing it until I fall asleep. I also set an alarm every night to wake me up 4 1/2 hours after I fall asleep so I can attempt a WBTB because I heard those are typically more successful but I'm still not having any luck. I should also point out that I am a pot smoker, as I've heard this can affect dream recall, I typically only smoke when I go to bed because it helps me sleep, otherwise I just lay there for hours, I'm wondering if pot could be the reason I'm not remembering my dreams? This is extremely frustrating and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, I would recommend you write in your dream journal in the morning anyway and say how much you would like to remember your dreams. When you wake up you should stay perfectly still with your eyes closed and try to remember any dreams you had that night. Try putting in less effort to remember your dreams because your body can do the exact opposite of what you want when you focus too much. Try going a night without smoking pot and see if it helps too Hope I helped.

I never thought about the first 2 things, those sound like good ideas, typically when I wake up I open my eyes right away and sit up because I'm so used to getting up quickly for school and work and stuff and it would make more sense to just lay there a minute and try and remember anything. Thanks for the advice, I will try these things and see how it works out.
