Unhappy Strange feeling while starting a lucid dream...

      First of all, hello everyone!

Some time ago I've been seeking to experience powerful and meaningful lucid dreams, but due to my daily routine (which sometimes can be really stressful), it leads me to a non-stop lifestyle and so, I never really accomplished that. However, the few times I entered in a lucid dream (or at least, I thought so), the only thing I felt was a true sense of weirdness and fearness.
When I realize that it's all a dream, the dream characters start to stare at me like if I "broke" and ruined everything. I feel like they are mad at me because now there is no purpose for them to be there, because I no longer believe that what was happening back then was real!

So then I feel a big suspense, like something bad is going to happen. Well, I don't know if it is something bad, but at least I start to feel fear because I don't know what is going to happen next. So I quick the dream and I wake up upset because I know I wasted another time to have my first lucid dream!

I don't know if this is normal or not. I think I'm going to start some of the tips from the forum and specially the ones from Rebecca's website (World of Lucid Dream.com) about the things we can do before the dream. But I would really appreciate if you could tell me if it is normal or not AND how can I deal with that (in order to have my first lucid dream)

      Thanks! ^^

I haven't heard of all DCs getting angry, although it's probably nothing but you worrying, just get out of the cycle. Sounds to me like your describing Inception to me :p.
Nothing bads going to happen, just try to stabalize or teleport to a different DreamScape.

      Thanks Arch for your reply!
Inception? Well, I know little about the movie so can you explain me what you mean by that? x)

Maybe you're right. Maybe it's just me worrying about the "unknown". I only got that feeling from my DC's when I spontaneously realized that all was a dream. I hope that following those tips and techiniques for Lucid Dream help me to get controll of the situation and don't get scared with the reaction of my DC's.

One good thing to do MysticalSophie is to just ignore them. For one, they dont exist anyway so it doesnt matter, if you ignore them then they will disappear.

Also another thing you could do is MILD... And visualise the Dc's being happy for you finally realizing that its a dream. It could help. Ive noticed that sometimes when i begin to question reality my DC's will stare at me or do something to make me forget like put me in a weird social situation... Might be the minds way of trying to get you to fall unconscious again. I dont know.

Anyways give it a try and let us know how you get on

I think that "scared" and "suspensefull" feeling will go away with the more lucid dreams that you have. Just try to remember that this is YOUR dream. And if anything happens you can take it out. Just make it vanish. Or kill it. Or TALK to it! Whatever you feel like doing.

Oh and welcome to dream views!!

nito89: Thanks for the tips! It's good to know that I'm not the only one having those staring DC's. xD And your theory of why they do that is interesting. I also thought the same thing.
I read a bit about MILD and, althought I'm still a beginner, I'm going to give it a try. At least, I think I took the idea from it.

dakotahnok: Perhaps that will work. The problem is that on those times, althought I knew I was dreaming, the idea of being able to controll the dream never came to my mind, so maybe I started to get fear of that because I realised that I was in a dream, and because of being in a yet new and unknown world, maybe my mind was giving me this message: "Well, it's all a dream, it's not real, so you should go back to the real world."

I think I have to controll the power of my mind sense of reality first. I have to tell to myself that dreams are also real experiences, althought different from the ones I know. If I get able to do that, I believe that I will gain better results. Thank you guys!

Any more tips and advices are welcome! ^^

Staring DCs are actually quite common, there is a thread in the General lucid section which discusses DC reactions, and a lot of people seem to have these kind of reactions to them becoming lucid.

From my personal experience I have to say that dream characters do pretty much as we expect them to do, for me in the beginning they were mostly quiet and staring. But some DCs that represent close friends of me(who know that I put effort into lucid dreaming) seem to react happy in my dreams, simply because I expect them to be happy for me as they would be in the real world.
Lately I had a lucid dream in which when I became lucid the DCs felt guilty for tricking me into thinking they were real, so they were sad and just staring at the ground.

So my advice is just like the others, remember that you are in control of your dream. You don't have to take control over those DCs but as long as you know that you are in control you wont be afraid of their reactions, so it doesn't really matter how they react.

      Thanks for the link, Ladusence!

Gosh! Today I lost so many opportunities to realize that I was dreaming! x__x The first one was some DC's that shown up in my dream and that it was impossible for them to appear. (some were some friends of mine that are in Spain so they cannot be there with me, and the other was an old cat of mine that died some years ago). I didn't understand that while dreaming. .__. The second, was when I experienced a false awakening. I was lying down on my bed at my room but in the opposite side (my feet were in the pillow and my head on the bed's part for the feet). When I tried to turn the lights on, nothing happened. And this is clearly one of the signs that I'm dreaming. But instead, I got all scary because it was all dark and so I started to call my sister to come in. At some point, I lost my voice and felt my throat tighted. I woke up and I realized that I didn't even called my sister and it was all a dream. But it seemed really real!

I'm following some daily steps such as RC's, DJ and also the waking day awareness conscience that I read in a tutorial I think so. This was my second night without any big results.
I'm also using a clock alert to wake me up during the night to try MILD and also to regist a major number of dreams on my DJ. I'm pretty good with starting Hypnagogia (it's easy for me to visualize colorful geometric figures and such things while my eyes are closed) The problem is to put my body asleep on that state, and to start dreaming with my mind awaken!
And worst, when I'm trying to get into a dream like that, I feel some weird vibrations on my brain and on my ears, which puts me on a really expectation.

Okay, I don't know if I can talk about all this stuff in this thread but I hope there is no problem at all.

Sounds like you're right on track, DCs disappear one you pay them no attention, they are part of your imagination so it doesn't matter either way. As for inception, I can't find the clip, but what you are describing is exactly like a scene in the film.

      Okay, that's weird. xD
Well, now the major problem I am dealing is that my dreams are too realistic and last too short. They change from scenario to another, so then I can't quite check if I am dreaming or not. Maybe I should think about reading more fantasy books. I used to do it but since last year I stopped a bit. Do you know if reading before going to sleep it helps?

If your lucid dreams are short then you need to work on dream stabilisation!

Thanks Arch! That tutorial was really helpful!

Through this 3 nights, I have been writing them on my personal DJ. Maybe I'll start a DJ here on DV to help me reflect a bit more about then. I'll keep you on track about them if I achieve my lucidity. At least, today I woke up and remembered to do a RC to see if I was really awaken or if it was a false awakening.

      Hi MysticalSophie!

First of all its great to see Portuguese people here on DV!!

Regarding the behaviour of your Dream Characters....it has happened to me a couple of times...

And i can speculate a theory...a theory that i developed after studiyng my dreams...

I suspect it is your subconscious mind thatīs realizing your lucid state...its like your subconscious realized:" hey, sophie is lucid...so now what?"
It will pass with time, and with more and and more lucid dreams, it will vanish.
In my case they dont get angry...they just pause for a second and then go back to whatever they where doing/saying.
An angry behaviour might be influenced by your stressfull life.

I have a high profile job, so stress has been a "good" friend of mine.

Meditation...breeding exercises, visualization exercises...its all things i can suggest to you.

Regarding your fear...well before i stick with Mild method, iīve tryed WILD.

I had hypnagogic hallucinations (that occur between the awakening state and the slepp state, and can be auditive, visual, or tactile). And i met the Shadowed One.

      Obviously i got really scared.

After a few days, i "reasoned" with myself and i realized that i wanted this (LD) so much that i had tu surpass all the fear in me. I tried more times after that, but then i changed methos (from Wild to Mild) because i was loosing many hours of sleep).

Sometimes it can be difficult or scary...but keep going, and you will reach your goals!

      Hi FredRibeiro!

Thank you very much for your reply! Through your surname, I suppose your also portuguese native?

Well, that's actually a good theory. But I think you touched in a better point that somehow it can relate to my DC's behaviour: the fear.
Although I find fascinating all the things related to fantasy, I think I fear everything that it's not natural to occur; everything that I'm not used to and got me by surprise. So, ya. I'm telling myself to be courage because I know I can do it and nothing can go wrong. But I think it's a question of time... (:

Last night, I almost got lucid. I think I knew it on my mind, but unfortunatly I didn't told it out loud. If I had, I'm sure that my DC's would stare at me. But this time, I didn't tell anything (not because of fear, that was just because I didn't remember it). But then I got in an embarrasing situation during my dream and because of that I quit the dream.

It was just a shame because the dream was perfect to take controll of it. It was so vivid that I can even remember the clothes that my DC's were dressing, what the food looked like... And I think I knew that it was a dream. At least, after that embarassing part, all I wanted was to quit the dream so somehow I knew it, right?

Maybe I should be more open-minded about Lucid Dreaming. It's the only thing that pops in a my mind right now. But at least, that dream meaned a sign for me about my capacibility of having vivid and semi-lucid dreams.
