Drinking water won't necessarily cause vivid or long dreams (even more so lucid ones), but if you drink a lot, you'll end up waking in between 2 REM cycles to use the washroom. This can help you get up for a WBTB if you're not sure when your cycles start and end; it's also good for recalling dreams and even WILDing!
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

What Puffin said, you wake up after REM cycles which is a good time for WILD and the recall like she said.
It was probably just a coincidence that this happened though

so Puffin, what would be your best suggestion for attempting a WILD? I have issues falling asleep quickly because my mind is wayy to active just before bed.

Oh, you definitely don't want to attempt a WILD right when you get into bed. Sleep for 4-6 hours, get up and do a WBTB for a few minutes (until you feel sort of awake, but not too awake), then go back to bed for the WILD. You can either do this, or get up in the morning for 4-6 hours and get into bed for a nap WILD.

It's incredibly hard to WILD before bed because your mind is often too active, you're not physically relaxed enough, and you're not in REM, which is a crucial time for dream formation. If you're not in REM, you could enter SP but you probably won't enter a dream; if you happen to enter one through some miraculous turn of events, it'll probably be blurry and not vivid. It's definitely not worth doing a WILD if you haven't had prior sleep, or aren't doing it during a nap.

Just to add, WBTB time completely depends on you, for me its about 3 hours after bed.

Yep, the time spent before taking a nap can also be dependent on the person; I personally do my WILD attempts 3 hours after waking, instead of 4. You'll have to experiment to see what works for you.
