      Hello!

      Hello everyone!

I have been lurking Dream Views for a few weeks and I finally decided to register; I am a high school student and I have been trying to have lucid dreams for a while and I am hoping to get one soon. What induction techniques do you guys recommend for a beginner?

I would start by building dream recall and daily awareness. Then use MILD or SSILD.

You might want to read Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge.

Hey man, welcome to Dream views
Glad to see you want to get into Lucid Dreaming, also you're Canadian so I guess your nice or something (I have no clue about that joke whatsoever, I'm just trying to sound cool) To get you started I'll leave some links below that might be of use to you, they certainly helped me out a heap when I was getting started. Good luck to you dude.

First of all, a crash course in the sleep stages; Sleep Stages
Then a nice little piece on dream recall; Dream Recall
And of course induction techniques! Induction Techniques

      Keep it real man

      Welcome to DVs!

Definitely start using a Dream Journal.

A great technique to get started is the MILD technique. You want to have a decent focus daylong on lucid dreaming through being present and focused, doing reality checks, etc.

Check out our wikki, it has a ton of good info!

Hey Percy, I have a question about reality checks; how can you develop a habit to do them regularly? I keep forgetting to do them while I am awake.

      Thanks.

Well, I'm not Percy, but an alarm of some sort could help. Encountering a dream sign is a good excuse to start checking and you can also do it whenever it enters your mind. Eventually, it'll enter your mind more often and sot of just become habit.

Practice LaBerge's prospective memory exercises. Pretty soon it will be second nature.

      Well, there are many tricks.

I personally add them to my life. For an instance, if you drive a lot, do a RC every time you see a red car, or if you work in a store, do a RC every time you see someone with a blue shirt.

Like tell me, what do you do for living? How about hobbies? (This way I can find a suitable RC for you that will help you make it ton of times without becoming a routine)

I am an unemployed high school student, no driving license; I walk to school daily which takes approximately twenty minutes.

I love gaming, reading, and occasionally hanging out with a few friends; I don't get much of a chance to do any of those lately since I am always pressed with a ton of assignments.

Okay, from there, I would try to do a reality check everytime that these events happens:

      - When the teacher calls the attention to another student.
      - When while walking, you see someone else with a (choose color) shirt/jacket. Stick to the same color ALWAYS. Every single day.
      - Whenever something odds happens at any game you play.

For the reality check, just check your hands and make sure you got your hand right. If this is odd at school, try to read something from your book/notes, and then look away and read it again to make sure it still says the same (assuming you could read it the first time and it made sense.)

The first two are common occurrences, and that will give you a lot of chances to RC. The last one is because electronics behave oddly in dreams, and even though you can get a glitch in a game, it is likely to happen especially asleep.

      Good luck!

I have another question if you don't mind, I am really interested in OOB's and Astral projections, should I wait until I can properly lucid dream or is it fine to attempt it right now? What method do you use to enter OOB's and Astral projections and at what time do you do it?

Nope, you do not need to master Lucid dreaming to experience an OBE.

Pretty much, an "easy" way to OBE is to use a WILD technique, with the difference that in order to WILD, you need to ignore the vibrations and just fall asleep, while trying to OBE you MUST focus on raising the vibrations and then visualize yourself floating and from there you can trigger an AP.

Best time to do it is when you are not too tired, like after 6 hours of sleep or even maybe after lunch. But it gets to a point that you can project whenever you want. It is about relaxing completely your body and silencing your mind from wandering thoughts, and then just use an out technique (a good one is to imagine there is a hanging rope in your room -while you feel the vibrations- and imagine that you grab it with your astral arms, and then, just pull... and you are out.)

Hey Percy, I attempted to OBE yesterday; I managed to get my legs to fall asleep easily but had troubles with my hands. I eventually got my hands to fall asleep but I couldn't get the vibrations to appear, I tried imagining a rope and then tried to float up but neither worked; how can I induce the vibrations?

They take some time to come. You need to have your entire body numb and your mind quiet. Do not focus on, "Okay, lets see when the vibrations come", or, "Am I relaxed?" The rope you need to do it when vibrations come. It takes a bit of practice at first. Give it a 10-15 minute work, if you cannot relax entirely, just end the session and try to fall asleep and focus on something else (such as inducing a LD or just falling asleep.)

When did you try to do it? Like, what time?

And great job at relaxing your body, keep it up!

I did my OBE at around 8 PM, I am pretty sure I spent at least half an hour relaxing so I am not exactly sure why I didn't get any vibrations; I think it was because my hands were not entirely relaxed. I'll keep you posted on what happens during my next OBE.

      Thanks a lot Percy.

      Very happy to help

Were you tired when doing it? 8pm seems a time were you could be too tired to OBE. Also try to find your sweet time to do it. Give it a shot if you wake up in the middle of the night, or, if you have time, maybe an hour or so after lunch.

      Hey Percy,

I tried to do an OBE again today but I couldn't manage to relax myself; I gave up after around half an hour. I have a question about blankets if you don't mind, is it better to OBE with or without them? I found that when I use blankets, I feel them heavily pressing against my toes (since my toes are facing up against the blanket) once my body falls asleep.

That is a tricky situation, since it is true that blankets can really get on the way. If you wanna try without blankets, maybe sure that the room is warm, otherwise, you will start feeling cold (sometimes during separation you can be a lot more sensitive to temperatures and if you physical body is not warm enough, it will bother you.)

Keep up the good work though It is good to give up after a while and try next day With such perseverance, you will OBE soon!

      Thanks a lot Percy,

The problem is that my room is in the basement which feels like Alaska, can't increase the temperature because it's way hotter where everyone else is (upstairs). I will figure something out though.
