      Need advice please!

hey guys, I'm having a problem and would really appreciate help on this one.

I decided to give lucid dreaming another go after starting a DJ earlier but dropping it quickly last year.
now I am highly motivated after watching 'lucid dreaming - gateway to the inner by Robert waggoner' on youtube,
bought a dream journal and started in on Friday last week.

worth mentioning is also I meditate 2 hours a day, every day.

      the problem:
as soon as I decided I wanted to lucid dream and remember my dreams, the first night I woke up 4 times during the night, immidiatly after a dream,
remembering some parts of it. the last few nights since then have been the same. I of course started to wake completely every time I would wake up with memories to write them down in my DJ, the thing is since I'm doing that I'm exhausted during the day due to not being able to sleep through the night I think. Anyone has an idea what this problem is caused by? (I assumed at one point that I might actually get lucid but then wake without remembering it, would that be an option)

also I would like to hear a recommendation on how to proceed, should I continue to write everything down in the middle of the night when I wake or should I leave it and wrote down what I still have in mind in the morning?

I really appreciate help, thanks a lot already for reading.
      cheers

Once recall is firmly established, there is no reason to wear yourself out over the DJ. You can jot bullet point or use a voice recorder, or you can just rehearse the dream mentally. Be warned--you'll lose some details this way.

DJ is most important for establishing recall, finding dream signs, and keeping an eye on your overall practice (are you noticing odd things in dreams? Are you discussing dreams with DCs? And so on). It's good to check in every once in a while, as dream signs can change.

Sounds like a really promising start. Those awakenings are excellent for promoting lucidity.

How about something in the middle? If you find yourself too exhausted, instead of writhing everything down or waiting until you have rested to even start, maybe you could write an outline and some side notes while you mentally go over your memories of the dream. Then, after you have rested, maybe you'll be able to recall and write many other details and events just by looking at the outline, because you was thinking about the dream as you was writing the outline... Theoricaly, at least, because I haven't actually tested that, and I'm sure you will lose details of the dream, so take this with a grain of salt. It's just an idea. Maybe someone with more expertize can correct me.

Also, I second ThreeCat. I started two weeks ago, waking once or twice in the middle of the night, and I had my first lucid pretty soon, so according to my little experience, you seem to be on the good track.
