      Tranquility Park is a noob.

Hi, I just joined today. I have always had an interest in dreams. I started reading Robert Monroe when I was about 15 (Journeys Out of the Body). Much of his experiences were confusing to me, but I did take along some of the OOB techniques. Over the years I have read many books, including Dream Yoga: Consciousness, Astral Projection, and the Transformation of the Dream (Samuel Aun Weor) and many other books/lectures by him; and the Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep (Rinpoche). What I have found is that this is a highly dedicated, self-disciplined practice. Life and everything else in the waking world has prevented me from dedicating too much of my time to this, even though I know better.

For the last couple of months I have been practicing yoga, and its become very apparent that I need to learn more about my lucid dreaming and astral projection so that I can get closer to awakening.
I've been reading many of the posts by mods and veterans. I applaud you all for being able to stick to the self study for so long. I truly hope I can reach that level of dedication.

I have read some of those books you mention. Currently trying to read more and I finally got me a reader for e-books, so hopefully it will happen.

      Welcome

i agree that if you want to be a regular lucid dreamer and not just have random lucids now and then it need a lot of dedication and discipline but i wouldnt get to scared by this fact. i am a type of person who often wants to do things the right way and "perfect" or not at all. i thought this is a good quality but i had to learn that if it is obsessive it blocks me in some cases. instead of doing it step by step or maybe even not with all passion or heart i dont do it at all for ever or atleast a long time instead of making small but steady progress.
the same with lucid dreaming. it is better to do everyday a little and as much you can effort with your everyday life. you will make porgress but slower and maybe dont have lucids every day or every week but every two weeks and they will be pretty cool after some time and suddenly you will dedicate some time more every day or some days because you see what benefits you will have and how cool it is and soon you find more and more time that you dont "waste" on ld practice but see as free time to pracitce like standing at a busstation or in an elevator is sitting on the toilet etc

plus ld practice has a nice sidefeature: it is good and healthy with your waking everyday life. with a little dedication you drink less alcohol and do less other drugs. you want to have a regular sleep schedule. you watch a little what you eat and when you eat so you dont go to sleep with a full stomach. you practice your awareness and beeing in the present moment and not on autopilot in the future or the past. you notice more and more of your inner and your surrounding ant that are nice things for your everyday life. let it come to you step by step and you will see the "hidden" benefits and not just the "lucid dreaming fun"
