      Hello, first post!

Hi, I'm a 21 year old nursing student. I used to lucid dream a lot roughly between the ages of 11-15, but I've fallen out of practice. I've been writing in my dream journal on here for about a month and have had a few spontaneous lucid dreams mostly from that effort; I'm not very consistent with RC's. I've been trying to focus on getting lots of sleep and dream recall. I decided that it might help if I stopped lurking and started posting!

So lately I have been having tons of nightmares and anxiety dreams. I guess it might have to do with the end of the semester and deadlines converging. Do you notice that your waking life stress bleeds over into your dreams in unexpected ways? I don't have dreams about failing class or anything, but I have a lot about being attacked.

All I've ever really done is WBTB and DILD, never had success with WILD. Are there any cool new promising techniques out there now that you guys have had luck with?

      to Dreamviews!

Every technique, if it works for you, is good. Start with DILD and read up on WILD and DEILD.

      Happy dreams

Welcome to the forum! You can also try FILD (finger induced lucid dream). All you have to do is wake up in the middle of the night (don't stay up for long) and move a couple of fingers ever so slightly. You don't get SP and it works in a matter of minutes or even seconds. I tried it and I think it worked, I just had an FA and didn't try an RC so I didn't become lucid.

      I don't recommend FILD for a beginner

FILD is a variation of WILD technique. But there is so much more to FILD than to lay there and move your fingers. Same as there is so much more to WILD than lay there and enter a dream.

It's essential to read the tutorials and to practice. Because just laying there will set the person up for a failure.

      1. You don't have to go through sleep paralysis (although it can't harm you, it can be scary)
      2. It works within minutes

So I don't see how it isn't good for a beginner. The only easier induction method I can think of is DILD

1.You do not go through sleep paralysis in any of them.
      2. Everything works, but not without knowing what you are doing. And just laying there and wiggling fingers is NOT knowing what you are doing.

There are methods which are easier to start with, because they teach you all the basics that you can use for all other methods. FILD is not one of those methods recommended for beginners. Just because it sounds easy, it doesn't mean that it doesn't require any mental preparation or practice. I'm not saying it's hard. 5+5 is not hard either. But if you don't know what is 1+1, or even what the numbers look like, it's not gonna be easy figuring it out.

We have a ton of posts about SP and why it's inconsequential to lucid dreaming. And why what you think of as SP is not SP at all, but normal falling asleep sensations. I know you are new to this forum, Keeboard, so before we get any further in this discussion, maybe yo could read up and see where we are coming from.

please read what sageous says in this post. He is talking about DILDs v WILDs, but this goes for any method that someone want's to achieve without practice, because it seems "easy".

It's nice to meet you guys

I'm not a complete beginner, I've had hundreds of lucid dreams (intentionally) when I was in middle and high school. I do already know a lot about the basic techniques! I was mostly on Ld4all (which now seems like a ghost forum) then, and dreamviews seems very active in comparison. I remember that FILD was a thing then too, but I have never had much success with that kind of direct dream entry thing; I would always keep myself awake. I work a lot and have a good deal of schoolwork, and remembering how interrupting my sleep so much when I was young affected my energy, I prefer to only do it before off days. However, thank you Keeboard for taking the time to reply to me! Congratulations on your FA!!

There are still lots of things that are new to me- like sleep paralysis being inconsequential as gab said. When I started lucid dreaming as a preteen everyone said you had to go through sleep paralysis to WILD! I also see a lot of acronyms I don't know much about. For example I check the lucid dreaming reddit sometimes and see a lot of stuff about ADA and SSILD. I can always research this stuff myself, I was just wondering if anybody had any personal insight or anecdotes.

      Thank you guys again!

Edit: gab, there's a lot of really great information in the links in your signature, thank you!

Hi zombunny, welcome to DreamViews! Love your avatar and username, so cute~ ( ^_^)/

Looks like you're a pretty capable lucid dreamer! Only up hill from here

Here's a guide for the acronyms that should help: http://www.dreamviews.com/introducti...beginners.html

And you may like to checkout our monthly lucid Task of The Month. And spellbee2 is currently running a Christmas themed lucid dream challenge over here: http://www.dreamviews.com/lucid-chal...challenge.html

If you'd like, come drop by on DV Chat, it's a really fun and relaxed chat where we talk about dreams, LDing, and off-topic stuff as well. Like any chat, it has slow times and peak times, so if you hit a slow time remember to check back at another time: DreamViews Chat

As for ADA, I prefer SAT (sporadic awareness technique) which is really just a more laid back version of ADA. My approach to it is to basically just not let myself go into auto-pilot, so if I'm walking somewhere I'm looking around and observing the environment, instead of being spaced out. This is a good thing to do in general even if not trying to lucid dream I think. Mentally retracing your steps is a good habit as well. I've become lucid many times when I suddenly think "wait, how'd I get here?" or "What was happening earlier?".

Hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot of useful info for your lucid dreaming journey

Welcome Zombunny! Glad you decided to join us!

Great choice of nickname and avatar.

Regarding the nightmares, there has been found some correlation between increased emotional states in waking life and in dreams (there was even a study posted by one of our members regading that - can't find the link atm). So, in general there might be a bit more emotionally laden contents if you are more emotional during the day. I'd say it's a good opportunity to catch some lucid dreams by reminding yourself about this and about becoming lucid next time it happens.

Thank you Mismagius, I will look into SAT, it sounds perfect! I'll try for the Task of the Month too.

And thank you NyxCC, I think you're right about the nightmares and I will try to find out how to use it to LD.

      Welcome to the forum!

Stress can definitely be a dream-killer. After all, stress often affects your quality of sleep, which in turn affects your quality of dreams. It's perfectly okay to take a break from lucid dreaming to get decent rest if you need it - just don't forget to get back into it once your life gets less hectic.

Let us know if you have any questions, and feel free to stop by the IRC chat if you haven't already. And good luck on your finals!
