Lightbulb Hi, finally decided to sign up!

      Hello from Canada~

I've heard of lucid dreaming back in 2007 when my friend mentioned Stephen Laberge, I didn't take it seriously back then because the idea itself was a bit hard to imagine and seem ludicrous (even though I had always enjoyed dreams and kept some dream journals just out of habbit).

It was only until watching the movie Inception in 2010 that I took a second take at the subject, but it was always hard to stick to practicing long enough as I had hard time measuring progress; so on and off I must have tried for 3+ years with only a few lucids when I really want to be able to do it near daily.

For my 2017 new year resolution I decided to give this a go again, at least really try hard for a whole year. LD is meaningful to me, and I do hope with enough practice I can do it frequently without having to take supplements. I'm currently thinking of trying a mix of MILD, WBTB and all day awareness, as they don't seem to interfere which each other and can be all carried out (I think..?)

There are times where I think my desire to be want to lucid dream also became a mental block for me to not achieve this skill. Because it feels a bit unnatural to be able to be so free, to freely consume, or chase desires; even though it is not real, it is real in the mind. I've read about people lucid dreaming of murdering people they hate in real life. Not that I have such desire, but there may be other things that I can see as not pure or good natured, so it does bother me that a big part of of the intention for wanting this skill is so greedy, and perhaps that has stopped me from able to learn it because I cannot come to terms with myself.

Even with this fear, I still want to see if I can learn this skill. Because it is just most fascinating. I want to believe I have the strength in me to do this.

      Peace,
      Sushi

      Welcome to the forum!

It's okay every now and then to have those "greedy desires" in lucids (honestly, sometimes you won't be able to stop those from happening) - after all, doing stuff like having superpowers always feels great. But lucidity can be about a lot more than that. It can be a source of creative inspiration, or improving your concentration, or even spiritual growth. So I wouldn't worry too much about having those desires - they're common and are often good sources of motivation - but you don't have to limit yourself by them, there's always more you can strive for.

Anyway, let us know if you have any questions, and feel free to check us out in the IRC chat.
"Going through life worrying about the little things is like cooking with motor oil instead of cooking oil. Sure, you can still probably pull it off, but it'll leave a bad taste in your mouth in retrospect." - Me, apparently

every other night is achievable for many but it is still quite a high goal to start out with

set a goal to use 3 different techniques, each one until your able to average one a week

then use the things you learn about your own triggering to merge and modify the techniques to find the one that works for you

the only technique that usually leads to every other night lucidity quickly is CAT, and for that you would have to follow it pretty strictly

also remember you will have dry spells and peaks, I recently was doing 2.5 per week for a good while then a dry spell for the past 3 weeks
but this morning had 2 lucids so far
      but napping over and over
Sure LUCID DREAMS are all fun and games until someone loses a third eye.

Thanks for the encouragement, I will try my best to have a better attitude towards achieving lucid dreaming!

Thanks for the suggestion, you're right that's probably a bit way over my head. I think I would be really happy right now to just achieve one a month.

Tho I had had quite a few random lucids when young,
my first intentional lucid took me 3 months to achieve with RCs
Then one each month for 3 months
then soon after I had averaged 1/wk
with peaks as high as 5 per week (even several on one day)
but still I now am around 1+/wk on average
(tho recently during and after a contest I was up at 2.5/wk)

in total 114 weeks since I joined dream views and 120 intentional lucids (including 2 this morning)

So start out trying what you think is best for you, but change it up until you find what works, then alter that technique for what works best for you
