Thread: Determining Your Lucid Ability (Title)

I lvoe this. I just wnated to thank you so "dearly" for it I am on the coummunity team. I will tlak to the ther about putting this in a sticky at the top of the page. good work.

Sounds pretty good to me except I find the difference between Lucid Tutor and Lucid Scholar is a little askew just because I think the Tutor should be able to learn more too. Other than that I think its good enough for me to follow. Im switching right now from student to tutor

sounds good. i was wondering how to label myself when i joined yesterday.

the only thing is dream tutor and dream scholar seem to be 'mixed up". I am unsure whether they are listed in that order on the options pull down menu, but if so, they seem, in my opinion, to be backwards.

after all, a scholar is usually thought to learn, while a tutor is someone who learns as well, but also teaches others.

for instance, if an individual excels in math, they are still learning nonetheless, but often offer to help others of less proficiency to learn the same material.

Other than that, good idea.

I see tutor as someone that teaches. By definition, when referring to "tutors" they are not learning, they are teaching. That's why I said they're here to share their knowledge.

A "scholar" is much like a student. So they're here to learn, and share their knowledge.

If it were up to me I'd remove Tutor and Knight, and maybe Master and Guru, because I don't think there's much of a need for them. It's over-complicating a simple thing.

different terms appeal to different people (and mean different things to people). more options provide further personalizing.

i like this though as a general guide, so why not sticky it?

Right now, I'm making a vow. I will reach the Level of Lucid Master. That is my goal. I'm determined to get there. Not higher or less, just master.

Just a comment here. I am here for dreaming, not necessarily lucid dreaming. All of it is meaningless to me. Just a thought. Maybe there should be a "Don't Care" option .

Actually this is what I wish I could do. Good luck to you with that. The only reason a lucid dream is better than a regular dream is the opportunity to remember what happened on purpose. The special skills in dreams secondary and unnecessary but make the experience more interesting.

I put my title as Lucid Beginner but after reading this I noticed that im a Lucid Student, how can i change this?

I just joined last nite. I feel that Scholar is where it belongs, being a step above the tutor. My reasoning for this is because a scholar is a person who has already been a student and is now a learned person. When we speak of Galileo and Socrates, we do not call them students, but scholars.
For the time being, I am going to leave my title as it is although I feel that I have been having lucid dreams all my life. Perhaps I am wrong though. I will give an example of the first dream that I remember changing and perhaps I can get a response as to if it would be classified as a lucid dream. I had this dream when I was around 7 years old.
I was standing with my family at the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. My brother warned me not to get too close, less I fall into the ocean where the sharks were.
Sure enough, I fell. When I hit the water, the sharks started coming and I realized that it was only a dream. As one of the sharks got close enough, I began to punch him in his nose and he turned around and swam away. The second shark I did not scare away. In my mind I said that he could eat me and it would be fine, because it was only a dream. So I let him eat me and then I woke up.

So thats one of my dreams. In most of my dreams, I know that they are dreams. In response to a post that talked about how hard it is to fly. I agree. When I first started doing it, I needed to get a running start and jump off of something high and then I would soar around for a bit. Gradually I kept refining and practicing (as its rather addictive), a few times, I have sprouted wings. Just recently though, I was in the standing position, and took off, like a helicopter.

This is the first time I ve spoken with others who have similar dreams, does this constitute lucidity to you?

Also, when you complete the LD task of the month, your rank is fixed until the next month. I notice that, since I usually complete it at the first of the month.

I want to know how to change my title from master to Student..

i've been having lucid dreams most of my life. i'm 25 now and i remember having them when i was young. i always recall my dreams and i always have. i have about 3 to 7 lucid dreams a week and until looking up the subject this week i never thought anyone else could do it.

Anyway a good way to stop awakening once you realise that you are dreaming is simply to look at your hands. this is what i have always done if i feel im awakening and it works like a charm. however these days i never have to do it for some reason.

has anyone ever experienced not being able to move once waking. i have this often and find it quite worrying. it feels as though i'm fully conscious except i'm fighting to move. i have the feeling that a weight is on top of me and i feel like someone is watching me. is this normal?

I've had lucid dreams all my life, just never been able to have them on command or prolong the experiance to extrodinary heights (time length, abilities, ect). So a student be I!

Does it matter how much LD's you've had?

I've researched and read everything I can find on Lucid Dreaming. I've tried almost every technique and have taken teas, pills, and other substances to experiment. I'm fully aware of how to LD now, but I've only had a few since being here (DILDs that is).

Basically, I know what there is to know now. I've tried many ways, and only I know which ones work for me and which ones don't. I've worked hard to get others I know to LD too, and have been successful with 5 different people!

According to the title descriptions, I should be a Dream Expert. I've had a decent amount of LD's in the past few weeks, but more importantly I know the subject well.

what counts as a lucid dream? dreaming an know that you are dreaming? doing things such as flying? i've heard of the "turning on a light switch" and "touching your palm with a finger of the opposed hand and the finger going thru" i've walked thru walls and ppl. would this just make me a student? i've tried to control them but i eather wake up or i go deeper into sleep.

If you've ever been aware that you were dreaming during the dream, you've had a LD. Having control is different than being lucid.

I've had some seriously strange dream experiences from about the age of seven (am fifteen now) and can recall a few early ones still, and at least one with full control, and several with full realisation that I am dreaming... where do I get placed?

It really comes down to what role you'd like to take her on DV

There's really no science to picking a title, it's whatever you feel comfortable with. I found it more as a way to guide my progress. Started out as beginner. Once I had a few LDs under my belt and concentrated on trying to gain control in LD's, I figured I was more of a student at that point. Once you're comfortable with your own LD's and feel you have more to contribute to others, then you're more of a teacher, with room to grow yourself. Etc, etc.

I like these choices, but it is kind of hard to decide my title. I don't really know if i already should upgrade to lucid tutor, or wait a bit longer, as though I don't feel experienced enough, I've seen people with less experience than me as tutors. While I do love these choices as they give a nice variety to choose from, they are rather confusing at times, as the lines blur a little on some of them, like tutor and scholar, or knight and master, as the tutor seems lower than a scholar, so I'd expect a tutor would be exactly the person who wants to learn more, and knight and guru. I mean isn't there this everlasting need for learning which can never be satisfied if you are interested in something. That being said I'm fine with them the way they are, it is a great system, and it really doesn't need to be taken literally.
