      Is it worth it?

Hey guys and gals. I been doing a bit of research on LD and astro projection (apparently it runs through the family?!) Ive been asking a few questions and everyone i know says if they have the ability to do either they find they are permanent light sleepers having to wake up several times every night.

But looking through the posts it seems mosts LDers here have some of control of it and it occurs through REM. So what I want to know is has anybody gone through the transformation (normal to LDing) and found their sleeping traits have changed?

Is it really worth trying to learn this ability if it means I will no longer deep sleep and have control through most of it? Will it make your consciousness tired when you wake up?

      I think that covers it
      Thanks in advance
      Gareth

I have found that in my very vivid dreams and Lucid dreams that I do feel fatigued the next day. Most people in the forum feel the opposite. Most say they do not feel tired. If you try hopefullyyou won't either.

Welcome! It is worth it all the way! My sleeping patterns did not really change except when I got excited the first few lucid dreams and woke up. I can now stay asleep and I wake up refreshed because a LD is a good thing.

The thing is after you go through REM(when you dream) you wake up and start the different stages of sleep again. Everyone does that no matter who they are. The thing is most people normally fall asleep pretty much right after and they don't even notice. The problem with that is you go through like 4 or 5 dream cycles a night and when you wake up the morning most likely you will totally forget every dream except for maybe the last one.

Most people here want to wake up after each dream so that they can remeber it. Even then most of us write down what we dream about so we don't forget the dream when we go back to sleep.

So short answer, is yes you will wake up a few times a night. However it has nothing to do with being a light sleeper, its just you being more aware of whats going on at night. This is just talking about normal dreams though, and its worth waking up a few times just to remeber them.

Ive kinda realised that the orphanage is the wrong place to post questions so a cuple more as well what benfits have you guys achieved through LD? Consciously or subconsciously? Is it possible to have a better understanding of yourself through such a technique(dream interpretation perhaps)? Is it possible to confront your feelings since you are conscious with your archetypes?
I bet half you guys are with the fairies as I type so if you get the chance fly, swim, teleport or even prance for all I care to New Zealand on a bias point of view, its really beautiful 8)

      WELCOME GOOSE!!!!!!!

Is your quote from the song by the pixies? It's a great song(and a perfect ending for Fight Club)

I would believe that LD has made me understand more about myself and has also let me do many things that I have always wanted to do, such as flying. It is a great way to fulfill your desires and sometimes the reality of it is amazing...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Yeah, it is, The Pixies are a wicked band, Fight Club was a wicked movie. Edward Norton did a brilliant job in it. Oh nuts, forgot the first rule...

I've found that my sleep patterns have changed. I now am a light sleeper and find that I usually wake up briefly after each REM period. But this is a great thing since it makes it easier to remember my dreams.

As for other benefits. LDing is probably the greatest tool in helping you understand yourself. I've found that my mind is much clearer and that I have a better understanding what makes me tick.

Yes it is well worth it!.

      Totally!

I'm a light sleeper now, but I enjoy it. I wake up about every 2 hours and remember a lot of dreams per night. It's much more fun then just "black out and sleep till the morning" ...

You can accomplish anything through LD

      haha i got it first

Ive been slacking off over the last few days with the journal cos its a pretty busy week havnt managed to get up early enough. But I have been having much happier dreams lately, like a telling off turned into a threesome somehow the other nite , this is strange cos its the first orgy ive ever had. Is having dreams favouring in what i want getting close to LD?

My sleep patterns have definately changed.... In weekends, I end up sleeping like, 15 to 20 hrs, waking up every 2/3 hrs or so and then trying to remember dreams and then writing em down, in the hope to get lucid again...

I wouldn't recognize that as a form ascending closer to Lding considering that the majority of our dreams indicates our deepest desires anyway. Getting what you want in normal dreaming relms are inner-feelings of some of your deepest inner-most desires. Usually experiencing horrific dreams where you wake yourself up before that Monster gets you is a far better way of knowing ones Lucid Potential.

Also in regards to losing out on sleep by turning into a light sleeper is pretty much irrelevant in Lucid Dreaming, Studies have shown that within any given 7 to 8hr period of sleep, it shows that 2 of those hours you have a significant amont of REM.. The additional 5 to 6 hours is your NREM (non-rem) cycles where the Body truely gets the majority of the rest it needs.
