      Achieving lucidity

I started my quest to lucid dream about 1 & half months ago now.

I had a terrible dream recall, i would only dream once every month (if that) and what i could remember wasn't much.

Since i have started i have managed to improve my dream recall 50x over. I can usually remember at least one dream a night now with no trouble. The problem i am having is actually realising i am dreaming, this may stem from the fact i have never realised i was dreaming before. I have never had a lucid dream.

Most of my dreams are fairly normal and my dream signs are not very obvious. For example, i will be riding my bike and do a jump but instead of just jumping a little i go flying through the air for a long distance. Most of my dream signs are like this, they are not "WHOA, this is just not possible!"... if you get my drift.

I have kept a dream journal and recorded most of the dreams i have had and i have read over it a few times, but it doesnt seem to help.

So how do i go about realising i'm dreaming?

      Welcome!

When you wake after a dream, go back to sleep and go through in your mind the dreamsigns (things that are not usual) present in the previous dream. This might help

      Hey! Welcome to Dream Views!

Try looking for dream signs, these help some people achieve lucidity.

Yeah for those who pretty much have the normal type of dreams then you have to take drastic measures. Try doing an everyday routine of making it habitual to acknowledge a dream sign. For instance it may sound a little odd but try this out. If you wear a watch daily then that would be a perfect dream recognition. In your waking world, evertime you walk through any door look down at your watch. Keep doing this to the point that it becomes as habitual as walking, period. If you keep this up your mind will manifest these habits into your dream world, you gotta also think in your mind "Am I dreaming?" and do some additional reality checks. But it takes consistancy. Lucid Dreaming is not one to be captured easily. Good Luck!

What may have worked for me on my first LD is that I prayed about it. I wasn't sure what God thought of the whole idea so I prayed that if He disagreed He would show me in my dreams...and walla...it happened..I had a good lucid dream with no negative feelings.
I also had a good workout at the boxing club that night. This might have contributed too...i don't know.

one thing to watch out for, (and i know i don't have a lot of experience, never have been lucid =) and I think this is the closest i've ever come. I was in my dream at this mudding spot nearby and I was ontop of a big mound, when I asked myself Am I Dreaming? I looked at my watch... saw the time, looked at it again and it was different... thought nothing of it, accepted it as normal =

apparently my interpretation of that was that in real life I never actually acknowledged that I was or was not dreamining.. it just became a habit that I learned to kind of ignore.. heh

I also read in the information section of the site about doing the watch check. When I had my first lucid dream it was a clock that made me realize what was happening. But the time never changed and even more interesting was that the time was also in very close proximity to what time it actually was in the waking world. What set it off was that the clock body was red instead of black.

I also have heard that if you can look down in your dream and see your hands that you will be able to become lucid. I also did this in my first lucid dream after looking at the clock and seeing it was red though I hadn't even heard of lucid dreaming before that.

      WELCOME!!!!!

I wish I was LaBerge, I would get so much money from the plugs I get in this forum....
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Hey, thanks for the replies everyone.

I will try looking at a clock (don't wear a watch) and try asking myself "Am i dreaming?" throught the day. I will also do reality checks.

I had actually read about doing reality checks, but it seemed to have slipped my mind. Anyways, we will see how it goes!

And, I bought myself a copy of "Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge two weeks ago. I found it to be quite useless as there is only one chapter devoted to learning to become lucid. The rest of it has some nice philosophy and whatnot... but there are some parts i do not agree with.

Anyways, i will have a look at the second book by Stephen LaBerge and see what its like. Thanks!
