Question About Eyes When Trying to Sleep

Usually, when I'm trying to get to sleep, it's hard to keep my eyes closed. If I'm tired or not. It's like my eyes want to be open when they're shut, but when I open them, they want to close, so when I close them, it feels like they are twitching like crazy because I'm putting so much effort into trying to relax them and keep them closed.

Does this happen to anyone else? It's hard to WILD (my current goal) or even sleep when my eyes twitch whenever I try to close them.

I've come up with a name: Restless Eye Syndrome.

In my experience, the openings of the eyes, are like air from your lungs. Ok that was stupid, but, blinking, walking, and breathing are automatic things. So if you don't think about it, your eyes will have en easier time.

Yeah, I try to not think about it, but it usually doesn't help much.

Do you do it in the dark?

Yeah, my window is like a light, ironically when it's dark. I read that it just takes your eyes to get used to the dark for about thirty minutes.

Notice you feel physically relaxed in the dark? But I'm scared of the dark so I don't mentally feel comfortable most of the time.

This is the first time I've heard of this. How long have you had this problem? And how do you end up falling asleep that way?

      That must be so annoying!

Orange = Stuff I realized makes no relation to the topic...

Well, I've noticed it since I first started to LD, about 6-7 months ago. I usually just wait until a good train of thought comes along and just hop on .

It eventually goes away but I have to not think about it AT ALL, which is very hard. The last couple of nights have been a bad example, I had wicked lacrosse practice and I was wiped, so I fell asleep as soon as I hit the bed, pretty much. Infact, I don't remember going to sleep last night, I woke up and thought it was like 5 minutes later and I'm like "WTF I GOTTA GO TO SCHOOL"

Sorry that was WAY off topic. But yeah, I've had it for a while and to get to sleep I have to not think of it at all, which is hard. It's kind of like blinking with my eyes already shut...

Is that how you try to relax? Relaxing isn't about effort!

Yeah I had the same problem, couldn't close my eyes! Especially when wilding and images would start to appear my eyes want to open all the time..

I think it's like the people in this thread said, you focus on your eyes too much. Wether you think about closing or opening them doesnt matter, just the fact that you are thinking about your eyes makes them twitch. What I do, is close them reallly slowly so you kinda learn to control your eye-lid muscles.. now I don't have this problem anymore

I've had different problems keeping me out of WILD but you get used to them, and after a while you learn to control them and totally forget about them so don't worry. I also used to have this weird thing where my legs would jump up when im entering sleep paralysis. Some sort of twitch. Like a meter high! It's weird since I wouldn't be able to do this by myself.

Oh oh .. i have that problem all the time.. I'll want to go to sleep, but I think too much and my eyes tend to open up automatically. Then I try to close them but I feel like they should be open.. so when ever I feel that way I just put something over my eyes like an eye mask or something.. I dont like to put my sheet over my head coz then I cant breathe comfortably. But yeah.. u should definately try an eye mask... sometimes if there is just enough light coming through the mask so I can see shapes in my room, and if my eyes happen to be open, my dreams tend to occur inside my room! but thats only happened a couple of times .. and when I wake up its kinda freaky.. but yeah thats all off topic :p

place your head facing the pillow or maybe just look down, that always help me on the rare occasions that happens.

      I think I have a your solution.

I had the same problem. The problem was I was on the computer/watching TV before I went to bed. Those kept my eyes jerking.

      I may be wrong...

I have the same problem, and, not to burst your bubble, but my computer has nothing to do with it. I find that focusing on my closed eye-lids makes them want to open, but focusing on my mind's(visualizing) eye makes my eye-lids stay closed. Try that.
