It's crazy to see the same people posting here like they did years ago. It's been a while.

Rant: When you start dating, you realize that you were better off on your own. Lesson learnt!
Rave: Breakups feel so good when you're the dumper, not the dumpee.

      Sanctimonious vegans...

Eating plants is no more "humane" than eating animals - either way, you're consuming one life-form to sustain your own. To think that it's ok to kill one organism (plant life) and not another (animals) is absolute foolishness. Short-sighted, inconsistent, and foolish.

Regardless of what you eat, you acknowledge the fact that it was once a living organism. You acknowledge it, you are humbled by it, and you honor this fact by eating just enough to sustain yourself and nothing more. Not only do you refrain from gluttony, but you also put the energy that was converted from the meal to good use. That's the ethical thing to do... not this hippy shit where you run around telling people to "save the animals by eating plants instead."

But I think the main difference is that most people do not believe that plants have no consious life. The ability to think and feel. Whereas animals can see, listen, and probably think about decisions as well as feel pain. How is killing a plant as "inhumane" as killing an animal? We have to eat something you know.

P.S I do eat meat. But I really don't understand your argument.

Nice one, let's just generalize everything while we're at it. Hell those damn vegans, they must all have precisely the same motivations. Of course they're wrong as your simple black and white world view just pointed out.

Let's not consider all that BS about plants being more ecologically sustainable, or what about that nonsense of considering organisms on a continuous spectrum.

How did anyone ever figure life was so hard when all we had to do was listen to your logical and useful ideas.

      Dakotah Nice seeing you again!

      Anju. Glad you're feeling good

      "Sanctimonious" Vegans.
Not all vegans are sanctimonious and not everyone who are sanctimonious are vegans
Unless Gavin was implying otherwise, I have no problem with his rant

My rant is that nicotine is still hitting me hard first thing in the morning. I was going to take my blood pressure, but it was at the other side of the room. I was still in bed. If I would have stood, I would have quickly fallen over it hits THAT hard. By the time the dizziness subsided and I did get out of bed, I took my pressure while standing at it was a bit low at 81/68 pulse of 119
I was asleep for 9 hours. My nicotine strength has remained unchanged (10-12 mg) It's very weird to me.
I also have the counseling drive today. Then the taxi service starts in full tomorrow.

I'm going to use our wash machine to do some laundry tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I seem incapable of saving for the laundromat and I am now out of everything except undies which I bought more of

The puppies are getting big and I have no idea what to do with them. They've been moved to the main room of the house. I have pads down for them. They get individual love and they love playing with the kittens. But what more? I can't recall having pups. They're too young to house train. I can't wait to sell them off and have momma fixed with the proceeds. Puppies are cute and everything, but I like getting dogs that have already been trained. She lets me know when she has to go outside and it works out perfectly. She's old enough where taking her on walks is about the only thing she needs. No playing or rough housing. Just talking to her and walking her

Another rant is that my room is overrun with house flies I imagine they're coming from the main room where the trash cans are. Thankfully, tomorrow is trash day so that should take care of any new ones.

For now, it's food, meds, minecraft. Then the store and the counseling trip...
      Have a great day everyone.

I tried duplicating (replicating?) the dizzy spells this morning. I planned ahead and brought my blood pressure machine close to my bed. When I woke up and slid the cuff on though
A yellow jacket was on my arm. He had been hiding IN the bloody cuff. I'm lucky he didn't sting me!! Instead he fell onto my blankets and I kept folding the blankets back and back and back so he wouldn't go under them. He finally flew onto my little table-thing then disappeared. *whew*
I took my pressure: 126/55 pulse of 77.
I sat back, relaxed, toked on my e-cig. Took it again: 110/79 88 and again 98/78 96
I've not had the dizziness, just a slight light-headedness, so I'll try again tomorrow and hope the yellow jacket doesn't interfere again

Rave: I finally discovered a way I can save tons of money. I need to buy a portable ice maker. After that, I'll stop spending tons on Fountain drinks. I LOVE fountain drinks, but only because I like my soda's ice cold. Our tiny fridge doesn't get them quite cold enough. We don't have a freezer. I could keep a small ice maker in my room and use bottled water like I do for my coffee machine.

Rant: My cats are dumb or stubborn or something. I typically only buy cat food. The dogs eat the cat food and have for YEARS. (Purina Indoor Cat food) With the new puppies, I figured I should probably get some dog food.
The puppies eat it. The kittens eat it. But the cats look at it like They're eating it, but they're not happy about it one bit. And they're still hungry so either they're not eating enough of it, or it truly does lack *something* they need.
Simon kept coming into my room. She'd jump onto my lap then start licking my fingers. Then she starts biting them and then bite/jerking my knuckles like she wants to eat them. What the heck cat lol. She doesn't draw blood or anything. She's just letting me know she wants FOOD. Sorry cat, my fingers are not food
Hopefully they can hang in there until I my allowance on Monday.
I guess I need to buy both cat and dog food for the time being.

I buy a 22 pound bag of Purina for just under $18. I got a 50 pound bag Ol Roy for just under $19. They had the cat food equivalent for the same. Special Kitty brand, maybe. I'll be buying that from now on in addition to the Old Roy.

Taxi service is in full swing today. Doctor appointment for Paula at 10:15 then she's going to some car dealerships if she can see. Then it's off to take them to work at 3:30.

I want to go vegetarian simply for the ecological reasons. We can't sustain current levels of meat consumption. Livestock industry alone accounts for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions. Plus all that land wasted. We can grow 10-20x as much food on farming land if we grow plants instead, and also suck up CO2.
I'm hopeful for lab grown meat soon, but until that happens I will try to be environmentally friendly by trying not to eat meat too much.

There is no argument, I wasn't debating anyone. I came across someone who made a big deal about eating meat the other day, so I braindumped on here.

As for my opinion on the ethics of x or y, neither is inherently more ethical than the other because the end result is the same - the loss of one life for the sustenance of another. What's more important is your reason for eating X/Y (eg. survival vs. gluttony), on balance with how the food was grown, prepared, etc. (eg. hunted in the wild, farm-raised, locked up in a cage and injected with asdf, etc.)

As in the type that lecture others about how it's immoral to eat meat. It was on the first line, should have been clear enough.

      everyone

I ended up getting an advance to get some cat food and my cats are most pleased with that decision! I bought them their usual.
Otherwise, meh, nothing happening in my neck of the woods.

Well, that was a lengthy break.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I'm sorry I went into attack mode last time. I was angry because there's this creepy older guy at work, who I thought I wasn't allowed to be creeped out by because of some arguments here (because maybe he was just trying to be nice), when I encountered another female co-worker (two now) who agreed that he's a total creep and one of them felt like one of these days she'd probably have to get him for sexual harrassment, off-hand. This made me think, "What? You mean, others agree with me? It's objective? I'M NOT THE CRAZY ONE???" And I felt "betrayed" by what I thought I was led to think here, that my feelings were never valid, hence the rage in the spur of the moment. I am starting to realize now that I have a tendency to jump to black-and-white conclusions and have a victim mindset, though, which is holding me back in life. Honestly, I was a little hesitant to come back because I thought there'd be an avalanche of hate in response to what I said, but I was pleasantly surprised.

As far as "attacks" go, there was a thread years ago on here where some guys were actually pretty rude and snide in response to some vulnerable things I was admitting, like "Oh boy, am I GLAD I'm not you!", and I started getting flashbacks of that when somebody said it was *my* loss for dumping that guy. Like "oh shit, THIS again". You guys have never been that mean, though. Anybody on here who's been truly rude generally doesn't seem to frequent this forum anymore, at least in the places I've still frequented. From now on I'll try to stop projecting and blaming, and start being more positive and productive. You guys are actually pretty cool and reasonable, all in all.

I won't be on here much more often, but I wanted to at least leave things on a positive note, if for nothing else but my own peace of mind. Thank you, and have a good day yall.

Well I sure wish you'd still come by often Deery. Like you said, most of those rude folks don't come here anymore. And I would just miss that shiny gold person in your avatar that I thought was Elvis that one time lol (where is that avatar from again?).

Anyway, you'll always be welcomed back here, just in case. The last thing I'll say is: No one has the right to tell you what feelings you are or are not allowed to have. That's your job only. See you around my friend,

Deery. Definitely stop by more often. You've been missed

I thought about your avatar and it made me think of ???? :rage: He's awesome but he doesn't sing real words (that I know anyhow). I looked in my YouTube folders but couldn't find it. I tried googling "hum dum" "Russian who doesn't sing words" I think he was Russian anyhow. Please respond soon and end my insanity. This is going to drive me nuts until I remember. I liked him. He MUST be bookmarked somewhere. Now watch your avatar be something completely different

My rant is I slept terribly. I tossed and turned and sweat like a pig.
I'm loving my Fitbit. I haven't gotten to use the exercise bit of it but I love the sleep portion. I now just tell my iPad when I'm going to bed. It's no longer recording inactivity as sleep. Boy it's been a real eye opener.
I was in bed from 2-11AM. It took me 24 minutes to fall asleep. I was restless 14 x's for a total of 185 minutes of restless sleep.
So, while I was in bed for 9 hours and 1 minute, my actual sleep came out to only 5 hours and 54 minutes. My sleep efficiency was only 69% It tends to run anywhere from 65-82%.
Hubby says it's because I sleep on a desk. But then I remind him that when we actually slept together some 10 years ago, he had to strap down the blankets because I tossed around so much they ended up on the floor

He just called. Looks like we're going out to eat when I drop the gang off at work. I really hope we go to the Chinese Buffet and not Red Lobster. We've not eaten at Red Lobster since 2001 but it's further away and I REALLY like the buffet!!

Sounds like one of the gang is throwing up... I hope I don't catch the latest crud going around.

HA! My son knew the guy I was thinking about. But upon watching it, I have no idea why it made me think of the avatar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSA_sWGM44

Rave: Paula is getting a car on Friday if nothing happens between now and then. It has a small leak in the gas tank but is otherwise okay. It's definitely a fixer-upper but for $800. total, you can't go TOO wrong. My taxi sign will be retiring then except for Wednesday counseling.

I think everyone, both us talking to people and people listening, tend to forget that the Internet removes a lot of the emotional element in conversation. It's easy to over-interpret something on both ends, and the only thing we can do is move on with that.

Glad to hear you are starting to assess yourself. When I was really depressed, I realized a lot of what was causing that was my own shit. I then decided to lose weight, and it was still there along with some body dsymorphia I was experiencing because I had been fat for so long. Then, I got fired for no real reason, and I hit a very dark space despite being way happier than I was. Psychedelics really grabbed me in the two or three experiences I had and said "You are angry because of this." I feel much better, but it is always a work in progress.

RANT: My book giveaway ends tonight, and I have 10 people signed up for it. I have 3 reviews online for my book (two are really good, and one is bad but not that well written so whatever). I have a little more marketing I want to do with this book before I focus on finishing the others I have. I feel good about my art.

I'm feeling nervous about placement. I feel like I'm gonna have no idea what to do. Also have to be with the same person all day, and I suck at talking....

Also I've been waking up earlier coz I have to this week for placement.... the days are SO long! It's seriously mindblowing how long days are when you don't sleep in, even just to 9-9:30 AM which is my normal time and didn't think it would make so much difference getting up at 6.
I wonder how much life I've missed due to getting up later pretty much my whole life. No wonder life seems to be going by so fast.

I hope the book give-away ended well Congrats!

Tommo. Waking up early sucks lol I hope you're happy with your placement. Do you have any say in the matter or are you just placed with someone and have to make it work? I'd be nervous too!

No real rants here other than the house flies. A typical house spider made a web between my computer and the corner where my two desks and table meet. He's having no luck catching the flies, but it's been nice watching him try lol.
My sleep is still annoying me too, but what can you do? I always start the night with my blankets in the correct direction length-wise. When I wake up, the blankets have been turned width-wise What the heck?

Nothing going on here. still binge-playing Minecraft. I found an under water temple but GAH! what's the point? I was extending my canal to another far off island when I came across it. I figured I'd drop in sand and gravel to stop the water and the mobs and just mine it from the inside out. It takes FOREVER to friggin mine the thing. You get mining fatigue when you get close to it. I guess I need to try to kill the mobs first (they cause the fatigue, even if you're blocked from their line of sight which is unneccessarily annoying.)

Well I just realized today I have taken a crap in four days.
I never really put any thought into it cause taking a crap is muscle memory ya know?
      Finally it just clicked.
"Whoa, I haven't taken a shit in four days..."
So either I'm going to have to get this checked or hopefully just end up having the biggest bowel movement of my life.

TheHomeBeef Look at your diet. Take a laxative. Take a gentle one though These things usually work out on their own, but if you're feeling bloated, diet and meds can help. If those fail, a doctor is definitely a good idea!

Yay, Tommo! Glad it went much better than expected

My rant is.... my sleep. What the heck! I just looked at the break down for my sleep. I "woke up" at 4:58 AM and my fitbit didn't gregister sleep again until 5:20. What the heck was I doing for 22 minutes? So while I was in bed for 10 hours and 20 minutes, I only got enough sleep for 6. I have a lot of wakeful chunks like that. I'm used to seeing small slivers of wakefulness not 20 minute bits!

Despite all that, though, I feel refreshed. I got up, got a shower and feel like a thousand bucks

While I was in the shower, though it hit me that I've been using the same bottle of shampoo for at least 6 months So I broke down my steps: Hair first... from the lather I wash my arms and shave my pits. I re-lather then wash my chest and stomach. Then I rinse my hair. One dab of shampoo for each leg- scrub and shave. One dab of shampoo smeared onto each hand- one hand for my crotch, one for my butt. I seem not to wash my feet And my back must be very dirty. How the heck to people wash their own back unless they have a scrubber-brush-thing
I don't like water in my face, so I'm constantly washing it (with just the water- no soap for my face).

After I scrub my skin with the soap and my nails, I then friction rub the dead skin off and rinse. Then I brush my teeth, gargle, funnel water into my ears, empty and I'm done just as the hot water runs out. I tend to take 3-4 showers a week.

My kids seem to go through both a bottle of body wash and shampoo in just 2 weeks. Not to mention shaving cream and hair conditioner. And that's for each kid. Now that they're buying their own stuff, it's not a big deal. But it makes me wonder what they're doing with all of it, with my habits lol.
Am I just an oddball? Do people typically use THAT much to go through it as they do?

There's my random question of the week
Life must be good if I have time to ponder such silliness

What a positive way of looking at such a question!
Since we are all friends and sharing here:

      Spoiler for I overshare maybe...:

SO if that tldr for you (is huge, I know) let's recap. That's:

      Scrubby-brush: $2.99 times 2 per year= $5.98
      Shampoo: $3.97 times 6 per year= $23.82
      Conditioner: $7.99 times 12 per year= $95.88 (yikes!)
      Bodywash: $5.49 times 12 per year= $65.88 (hmmm)
      Facewash: $3.49 times about 3 per year= $10.47
Wash for the thing that shall remain nameless: $3.99 times about 3 per year= $11.97

Grand total= $214 EVEN per year, excluding coupons/other discounts.
JUST in the SHOWER alone! Good thing water is included in the rent, geezow!

Now. Although these are just estimates, just by doing this I am more aware and thoughtful of ways I could cut back! Maybe someday your children will come to the same conclusion. Perhaps they aren't lathering thoroughly, OR their soap of choice isn't? I know when I lived at home our hard water affected things, making the lathering harder, using more soap to compensate. Where I live now I use less because the water quality is better.

I find that most people are wasteful without even realizing it. They are so often unaware, because they maybe just never took the time to break it down all the way. Everything today is so quick and easy, I can just run to the store and buy more when I need it. If I had to gather the ingredients and process them myself, then wait to use the finished product....I am sure I would be much more stringent with my use of it.

      As we get older, we look more closely and fine-tune our habits to suit our needs better. Surely now that they are buying their own you will see some changes in their habits as well, as time goes on. They'll say, "haha, sound like my mom don't I? Boy she was right though, wasn't she!" x}

I know I do, anyway. More and more frequently as the years pass...

Wow! That's quite the expense when you break it down like that
Me? Going by current estimates, I spend around $12.-20. a year on shower supplies.
I bought a new shampoo last time. Panteen, I think it is, with Mimosa oil. I bought conditioner at the same time (on sale for $1.) but I've found I just don't need it.
I use the shampoo for everything. Razors, on the other hand... I spend probably $1. a month on just those. I buy the cheap bags of 4-6. Shampoo is harder on razors than cream, plus sometimes I'm lazy and need a quick shave but not a shower so I'll shave with lotion
Bah!- so that brings my total up to upwards of $44. a year.

I was brought up knowing one of my great grandmothers too. She passed when I was about 13 years old and I regret not having spent more time with her. At that age, though, life was all about friends and I had little time for her stories.
My grandmother was an amazing lady. I regret her dying disappointed in me, but we had many great years together.

Rant: I am finally burned out on Minecraft. I discovered if I open my game to LAN, I can cheat. I gave in and completely cleared that under water temple while cheating and that did me in It was getting to be too much of a hassle clearing it without cheating, though... so I would have burned out one way or the other I guess

A rave is that I go grocery shopping tonight I fell in love with peanut butter & honey crackers so I'm getting some more. The store was out of the usual crackers I get which are Grilled Cheese or Cheese and Chives so I got a variety pack. I'm glad I did because I have that new favorite now
I'm also getting some toe sleeves and wedges and a pack of good socks and I'll start walking the dogs again (if it stops raining long enough!)

Tomorrow, I'll be going to the laundromat!

Rant/rave: every night, I have batting practice with the house flies Right before I go to sleep, I chase a bunch down and kill them. When they land on my mirror, I squish them, then wipe it. But last night another fly landed before I could clean the mirror. I killed that one too and then waited and sure enough, more landed having been attracted by the deaths *mwhahaha* Eventually, though, the other flies seemed to have wised up and avoided the death trap. Which reminds me: tonight, I'll also be buying some fly paper!

      Damn!
      I forgot razors!
      >_<

Seems so ridiculous really, the amount of things involved just in staying clean day-to-day!

I tried googling "hum dum" "Russian who doesn't sing words" I think he was Russian anyhow. Please respond soon and end my insanity. This is going to drive me nuts until I remember. I liked him. Very catchy video. Thanks for sharing it Deery

Here's a nice pic of just how poorly I sleep

      69% sleep efficiency.
No wonder I wake up most days feeling like I didn't get any sleep!!

My rant is that I have absolutely no energy to do laundry today. And my feet/sandals are soaking wet from walking the dogs to do their business (as is the bottom of my skirt). Our neighbor (whom we pay) needs to get on the ball and mow again lol. Our grass is getting very high again.
I'm also hungry and thirsty but too lazy to go to the store Gah! Time to get moving....

Hope everyone is having a good day.
