Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with her. I could see if she just liked it because it was super cheap. But no...she claims other beers don't taste good. I told her that I'm going to take her taste buds on a journey during my birth month (yes, why celebrate one day).

It wasn't that long ago that all I drank was Busch Light...before that it was Labatt Ice. The latter I can't even stand the smell of, so I don't know how I ever drank the stuff. Both were cheap yes, but I was also convinced that other light beers tasted gross. Now I can't even drink Busch Light anymore, and that shit is like water.

All it took was someone to open my eyes to all the different styles and flavors out there. One thing I would suggest is to use baby steps....for example, don't give her a porter or a strong stout right off the rip. It took me a few steps to learn to appreciate fuller-flavored beers, because I was used to such a watered-down flavor.

One style that I remember enjoying right away was Weiss beer. The first time I had a nice Weiss, especially the ones with the lightly sweet flavour, I couldn't believe I'd ever settled for the gross, muddled, unnamable flavor of Busch Light.

Gravitated right to cider beers too. Nothing too sweet, but a nice fruit flavor is enough to make anyone forget about Nasty Natty.

I never really liked beer, initially. I just drank to get drunk, so who cares? By the time I turned 21, getting drunk was lame and so I never drank. When I decided to go back and try different beers, I bypassed the 'big names' from the get-go. But I usually shun what's popular in the mainstream anyway (I'm so hip). The grocery store I go to has a decent but small selection of beer including many local brews, and they offer a 'choose your six-pack' where you can pick any combination of beers. So that's how I started trying some, and for me the dark beers were actually what I gravitated towards.

But even then, I usually need to have a beer a few times before I really appreciate it. It's kinda like music, for me... the stuff that's an instant hit usually gets old quick, whereas the stuff that needs to settle and grow on me often times ends up as a favorite.

So with my last batch: I liked the pumpkin beer initially, but I've grown tired of it now. The Autumnfest wasn't an instant hit for me, but by the time I finished the last one I quite liked them (and will be picking up some more while they're in season).

      My most recent first tries:

The stout was...okay, it tasted better room temperature. Would've rather had the Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout but I didn't see it on the shelf.

The strawberry was amazing though. It had a wonderful mulled spice smell, and wasn't too sweet. Now I must find the apricot version. >_>
