I live in a multi unit apartment building top floor. AC units located just outside on ground level. Lately I've been hearing a steady thud thud thud noise all night long and it's driving me crazy. Maintainenence has checked but found nothing. They tried flushing the toilet and listening to the AC but say everything checks out. The manager says I need to live with it but the noise is just so loud almost like bass but it's that thudding sound. I can hear it from the bedroom the loudest. |

Is there an attic space above you? Could maybe be animals up there? Neighbor playing Rock Band or something? |
There is an attic space above me. We also have a wasp problem this year. I don't know if they could have made it through the walls but I would have thought that sound would be more like a buzzing if that was the case. It's every night. |
Only at night? How long does it last: two minutes, two hours, all night non-stop? Is it repetitive and machine-like, or sporadic? Can you maybe try recording it? |
There aren't trees bumping against the roof. It's mostly at night. Perhaps I need to get a fan or something but I don't think so. It lasted a few hours and then completely stopped. |
The only trees are across a dirt path and nothing touches the apartment's roof. |

We once had squirrels get into the attic and make some pretty mysterious noises when I was a kid - had a hell of a time figuring out what it was until some workers came and found chewed holes and squirrel dung in the attic. They were only active at night. And it's surprising how loud such small animals can be - sounded like something bigger. But that wasn't like a regular series of thumps, more like sporadic bursts of scrapings and scratchings with the occasional thump or two. |
I know what this is, we had a neighbor with the same problems few months back. |
I am willing to bet it is an animal, especially given the fact that the noises only occur at night. |

I once had a similar problem. Every time when I went to sleep, after being in my bed for about 20 minutes, I'd hear two clear thuds, basically just *bump* *bump*, and that would be it. Took me quite a while to figure out what it was. Turns out it was my iPod, which I had connected to speakers to wake me in the morning, that basically turned it self off. The circuitry in the device apparently does some funny stuff when it turns off, resulting in the jack outputting two bump sounds to the speakers. |

So I think that noise is either one of three things: the traffic coming from the highway, a neighbor playing bass or my refrigerator. I have heard of some people that can hear like a humming noise coming from nearby traffic and the city just had the highway by us paved. I had never heard the noise before then and it makes sense. Cross traffic has unpaved lanes and it is bumpy by the intersection. Or else it's a neighbor playing loud bass and my apartment is in the path of the sound. |

i guess its still unsolved if you don't know for sure. though i was kinda hoping you would've discovered something paranormal. that would've been a hell of a lot more interesting. |

Trust me bro, you've just got some horny ghosts. |
